  • Mozambique LNG project is a planned gas development in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique. It is operated by TotalEnergies. It plans to extract and pipe 65 trillion cubic feet of fossil gas from about 50 km offshore to a planned LNG plant on the Afungi Peninsula. It is a major carbon bomb that would result in 3.3 to 4.5 billion tonnes of carbon emissions.
Land rights were given to the project for about 7,000 hectares. Families in affected communities were forced to give up their homes, lands and livelihoods. In Mozambique, people affected by development have a right to proper compensation. TotalEnergies says that all affected families have been compensated: "100% of all the families impacted by the DUAT are already compensated" (June 2024). The TRUTH is that many families from affected communities have NOT received compensation.
