Should I use a tripod when using focus stacking in the ARV?
Yes, absolutely use a tripod for focus stacking. The camera needs to be completely still in order for the various focused images to be merged in post processing :)
While some people may choose to attempt focus stacking while hand-holding their camera, I personally recommend using a tripod and feel a tripod is fundamental to getting the best results as the position of each image should be perfectly aligned and identical in terms of framing. It is possible to shoot handheld, but regardless of how steady you are, there will be some slight minute differences between images, which can cause issues during the alignment process. This is why I recommend a tripod as it is an inexpensive accessory to ensure you get optimal results.
