For those that don't know, the weird glitching effect this video uses is called "datamoshing". Never thought I'd see that in a music video, especially in 2009 when nobody really knew how to do it! Looks awesome.
I feel like kanye produces music ahead of its time. Really from future. Even the videos are way to futuristic at the time. How’s this album not received Grammy???
Jobs mine albums ahead of their time never get awards. You can look back and see how people shitted on this album. So crazy in hindsight. I even remember Stephen Colbert trashing the album on his show... but kanye don’t care he’s gonna be creative to the end
808 heartbreak was his best album period. You can tell Kanye was in a dark place. The music was everything. Not too often you play an album from start to finish and not skip a song. Wish he could do something like this once more.
Sitting in park with my son, he sleeps. I enjoy the silence. Then UA-cam gave me this MASTERPIECE. 15 years has past, im almost 40 years old...It was a very good year.
Im 15 this album helped me alot like, we were living in this house with no lights and we just got robbed. And my mom was like you gotta hear this album. At that time im between 5 or 6. We were back and forth from house to house. She had like a mp3 player or some shit and i used to steal it and hide in the closet and cry to this whole album.(Keep in mind we had actual cd's at this point) I never really understood the album cause i was young and naive but as i got older shit beggined to sound a little different. Words were clearer,it made a lot more sense, and it all came together. Kanye and Cudi are my two heroes. Cudi helped me through 4th grade.
Glad to hear you're still grinding! Tough times dont last, tough people do!!! Cudi helped me alot thru my life and I'm 28 now. I was the teenager when he legit first came out, he would record in my boys appartment. I'd stan his music and him , and how great that he created his own lane for music and how people can relate to this new type of emotion. Based and just out of world space type music and sound he was creating. Go listen to passion pain and demon slaying by him. That album will show you life situations, feelings and perspectives.
I'm a 39 year old white dude, and this is maybe my favorite album of all time. I also maybe biased because it helped me get through a very dark time in my life, let me feel that someone else had intense pain like me and that I could get through it.
Nothing wrong with that, Kanye’s music got a lot of people through tough times, including me, which is why I can never turn my back on his no matter how crazy he is
How? Thriller and 808s or Thriller and MBDTF have no major thematic similarities, they're in different genres, the creative processes of the album were different, they're remembered for different reasons, etc. If anything I'd say FutureSex/LoveSounds is the closest we have to a Thriller but even then these are all unique albums that should stand on their own merit rather than being compared with each other.
Kaizer.Beatz The similarity with MDBTF and Thriller was the 44 minute Runaway visual film, plus the production and the sequencing of the album from start to finish. Music media people were comparing Ye to Quincy Jones because of the production and how he brought different artists together to make posse cuts like Monster and So Appalled. But I feel you it should be standing on its own and not compared to Thriller.
I wonder if Kanye ever randomly show this video to anybody and be proud of himself that he made a visually and sonically masterpiece. So stunning 😭🙏🏼🩵🫶🏼
it was alright, but super disappointing since his first album was SO GOOD and so unique that I expected a lot more. I also heard that he stopped smoking weed after his first album because he was so dependent and solved a lot of issues in his life. so I'm happy for the person Scott messicudi but disappointed in the artist kid cudi.

+Fred I dont know if it's necessarily hated. It was still a huge critical success and I think the majority of Kanye fans enjoy the album. People are definitely harsher on it because it's much less rapping but really Kanye has always been more a producer than pure rapper and this album shows so much talent and process in that regard. The biggest reason why it's the Black Sheep of his discography too is that it was by far the least promoted. 808s came out during the Taylor Swift MMVA thing so at that time people really hated on Kanye. It was a hard time for him to be in the public eye and couldn't do his music thing either. All of The Lights is imo reflecting on that whole period through the allegory of the story. This is easily my 2nd fave Kanye album though along with MBDTF.
Dont know if this was intentional or not, but the fact that this is so purposefully glitchy, also in an era when we didnt have HD, this video aesthetic literally aged incredibly well with its 480p max resolution. Genius. Watching in 2020 feels like this video is trying to load itself up to HD but simply can't.

+verkzkillsz 4 revolutionary, critically acclaimed albums and he doesn't deserve top 10? It's not like there's a hip hop council that determines whether an artist is top 10, it's a matter of opinion. And imo he's definitely up there.
Hardest line on the album. Low key expresses how that cake could have suppressed his hunger. Very deep. Maybe his head was spinning from low blood pressure, due to lack of food and that cake would have increased his blood pressure to a more stable number. It’s all about perspective
Welcome To Heartbreak hit different once you in yo mid 20s 😭💯 I Was in 8th grade when this album dropped I couldn’t feel everything YE was saying until now
The choice to use the piano sample and ambient synth pads as the support for the vocals, is what creates the emotional foundation imo. The song is a devastating reminder of depression and loss of identity.

Has to be Kanye’s most underrated and under appreciated track. Ye and Cudi are perfect together and this song is a masterpiece
I think this might be his most underrated song. The other singles from this album way overshadowed it. And honestly it might be the best of the singles artistically.

Mine too
Josh Ben-Dan it wasn’t even a single, but it should’ve been. It’s my favorite song of Ye’s entire discography.

Jobs mine albums ahead of their time never get awards. You can look back and see how people shitted on this album. So crazy in hindsight. I even remember Stephen Colbert trashing the album on his show... but kanye don’t care he’s gonna be creative to the end
Because people were to gangster at this, so they were afraid to show emotion
Cause everyone hates on him cause he's different.
Because it was too ahead. Now 808s, Autotune, and sing-rap is the mainstream due to Heartbreak
808 heartbreak was his best album period. You can tell Kanye was in a dark place. The music was everything. Not too often you play an album from start to finish and not skip a song. Wish he could do something like this once more.

808s and Heartbreaks is "OUR" Thriller
Spankie Barnes Revolutionary 💯🎼🎵🎶🎙
Nah MBDTF is the hip hop Thriller imo

It's really bothers me how this album is so hated by some people. If they took the time to just listen and not just hear the word auto tune and lose there mind and lose that stupid bias. The album was truly great. Thank You Kanye.
