I am an 80 year old Geordie (male) now living (and dying) in America. THANK YOU so much for this WONDERFUL video which brought tears to me eyes. I lived in Washington - then in County Durham and started work in Newcastle in 1959. Beautiful memories of the best time in history that any Englishman could wish to live. Bless you all and thank you again. HG in Colorado, USA (Aiden let me comment :-)
Wow, watching and taking in every second of this wonderful fil tonight was just magical. I am a Newcastle bus enthusiast but my era is the late 70s to late 80s. However, watching the history of the trolleybusses in the earlier eras was very enlightening. It is interesting to note that the present-day Route 36-30/31 inter-running was born out of the running constraints of the Trolleybusses. 70 years later and those routes are still taking advantage of the busy peak run from the City through Fenham to Netherby Drive, where, in the absence of a terminus, they change to a service 30 or 31 to run into town via Benwell and Elswick. Magical. Thank you!
I was thinking the same. Newcastle would kill for an all electric, bus network now in 2023! ....and there ii was, with all of it's fabulous intricacies, back in the 1930s-1960s. Scrapped, in favour of hundreds of diesel fume-spewing buses crossing the city every hour. We've gone backwards.
Great video, loved it, but isn't so annoying that we ripped all the trams and trolleybuses system's from our cities and towns and are now having to pay to have these now reinstalled, how shortsighted were these councils.

20:16 awesome driving there like.
It seems incredible nowadays to think we scrapped the clean, quiet and efficient trolley bus for the dirty, noisy diesel..
