Hi Claire thanks for the Video how Christmas has Changed over time Charles Dickens house looks Lovely life must of been Harder for the Working Class the Film and Story of Scrooge is very good we Could all Learn from it [ its a Good Spooky Story] Bar-Humbug 😂🤣
Thank you and yes, this is why I love looking back at the past, I think it makes me appreciate how fortunate we are nowadays...thank you for watching ☺️
A Christmas Carol is a wonderful story, but it's sadly marred by anti-semitism. Naturally, Scrooge didn't want to celebrate Christmas. He was Jewish! And he had to be very careful with money because the harsh anti-semitism of 19th century Britain meant that Jewish people usually lived in severe poverty. There were lots of laws restricting Jews (and Catholics) so that their lives were very circumscribed.
@@TheWanderlustWayisback Similarly, Dickens' depiction of the Jewish character, Fagin, is also of course very negative. "When Charles Dickens created the character of Fagin in Oliver Twist, he gave birth to one of the most infamous personas in English literature. Few people know that Dickens' portrait of Fagin was possibly based on the Jewish receiver and fencer of stolen goods, Ikey Solomon. Much has been written about Ikey's exploits, his amazing and daring prison escapes capturing people's imaginations through the generations. The film "The First Fagin" recreates the fantastical life of Ikey Solomon, the most famous criminal of his age. From London's dens of vice, to Newgate jail to Australia's prison shores, Ikey takes us on a journey into crime, punishment, adventure and love whilst struggling against the transportation system of 19th century England. -Alan Rosenthal and Helen Gaynor" www.imdb.com/title/tt2232520/plotsummary/?ref_=tt_ov_pl
