Isabella fits in every voice actors in different languages. It's so good, I praise them.
I swear encanto have the best dub VAs, even in my native tounge(malay) they sound so wonderful(which isnt the case in most dubs)

omg Aya Hirano, that takes me BACK. what a perfect choice, the range on her.
Isabela’s Japanese Seiyuu for me, while talented is a bit TOO high just for the fact that it comes off a bit babyish & she’s supposed to be 21 & I get that she’s meant to be portrayed as a princess at first but we all know it’s an act & the few moments where Isabela’s dialogue is spoken with a deeper register are actually better. But I am aware a LOT of Seiyuus do characters this way.
I think its fitting tbh, that high voice sounds really forced and fake especially when her voices becomes deeper when she's angry. It's a good contrast and kinda symbolic that she's hiding something behind her tone. Your opinion is valid, of course, since it isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Edit: Also I'd like to bring up that it feels like her voice sounds higher with Abuela which is interesting and a nice touch.
That's funny because her English VA sounded a lot more higher to me (which I didn't mind BTW). This VA has a much lower voice and sounds very mature to me which is perfect for the character. 😊💐🌸

Aya probably felt some closeness to her character being someone forced to be perfect all the time considering her history with her otaku fans. For those that dont know she once was a Super Idol who voiced Haruhi Suzumiya, one of the biggest anime characters of all time. She had a band too and sold out stadiums for her performances. However, she was open about her sex and romantic life on a radio show and then there was leaks about her having slept with her band mates. This led to her fans quickly turning on her as idol culture in Japan (everywhere really) is toxic and disgusting. Fans destroyed her merch and sent death threats. Even as late as 2022 she said she still gets death threats whenever she voices a character.
Literally all she did was live her life but her fans had impossible expectations of her just like Isabella.
Im glad shes still getting work though because shes very talented.
A year late but she is still getting work, she's just distancing herself from voice over stuff and appears more in stages and dramas (p much also why you see her here dubbing disney movies too

I love how in japanese version Isabela before her transformation has the extremely annoying forced anime girl voice, and after Mirabel helps her her voice sounds more like a badass/confident character.
