Thanks guys! Your contents are super informative and easy to grasp. Thanks for making things less complicated for design babies like me. Much loves. Xoxo
AJ&Smart im currently using it for my work and it has really changed the pace our entire team! We have seen a huge shift in our productivity and effectiveness so we just wanna thank you all for sharing this with us!
Nice insights! Especially about the max. of 3 sprint questions. How do you deal with goals on different level? For example: earn more money / sell more tickets / great a good brand awareness / have a nice festival experience. Offcourse a client wants to earn more money, but it's good to put in somewhere for their convenient. Or just not.
When they have a goal like, "make more money" it's not the best for a Sprint. It's important that through the expert interviews and how might we's, you develop a goal that's bigger in the sense that it shapes the company or team's direction. So where do you want to be in 2 years time, in a larger sense? And then one of the sprint questions can be for example, "Can we sell more tickets for our events?" Does that help? Maybe I need more clarification on the question :)
Thanks for this video. I love this method. I am a bit confused about the sprint questions. In de google design kit the sprint questions are derived from the assumptions that are used in the solutions. In your overview the sprint questions are developed before the mapping on a Monday. What is the rationale behind this? Or are we talking about different sprint questions?
Hey esther, what you're seeing on our channel is the most up to date version of the Design Sprint which AJ&Smart and Jake Knapp (the author) now teach. A lot of exercises have changed and the order has changed too. This overview might help: ua-cam.com/video/Z8MOwcqZuuU/v-deo.html
I'm familiar with the change. but i don't understand where the sprint questions are based upon and what they are used for. How can we derive sprint questions and what are they used for?
Hi there! Very nice vid on note and vote. A few questions: 1. Have y'all every tried Mural with it's digital notes and built-in voting tool? We've used it for folks that are remote, and the "Note and Vote" would be perfect for it. 2. Have you ever ventured into Questionstorming? It's an interesting way of getting to the why, and has it's roots in the book 'A More Beautiful Question' by Warren Berger. 3. Why doesn't Dee have any background music? I'm so used to music themes when I see AJ&Smart videos, that I was kind of sad she didn't have one in the background as she was explaining the technique. Thanks in advance for any replies, and hope you're doing well.
Hey Robert!! Thanks for your questions! 1. We haven't tried Mural for a note and vote, but this sounds like something we would test out VERY soon! 2. Questionstorming... tell me more! Going to look into this book ASAP. Sounds right up our alley! 3. HAH!! Literally, we had a sit down meeting to discuss whether or not to have music on such a long video... ;) we decide to test it without. But I take it we should change back to our music fill vids? Good to know!! Hope you are also well! Thanks for being such a nice UA-cam friend :)
AJ&Smart You’re most welcome. :). Some help: 1. Voting in Mural: support.mural.ly/hc/en-us/articles/202493844-Vote-on-elements-in-a-mural 2. Question Formulation Technique: www.fastcodesign.com/3060573/how-brainstorming-questions-not-ideas-sparks-creativity Sorry about all the ads on fastcodesign. It’s terrible. And I’d vote for a long jazz tune from Miles Davis from ‘Kind of Blue’ for that background music. The first track should do just fine (as long as fair use clauses apply of course): ua-cam.com/video/qNcPwrfK9tY/v-deo.html See you later!
Great video! How many people from the company that will facilitate the sprint do you recommend for a group of 7 from the clients side? Is this the same amount of people you need for the 4 days of sprint?
Hey Christel, for our Sprints we usually have a team of between 4 and 5 people. Incorporating a range of Product Designers, Researchers and Facilitators. It depends how experienced your team members are with facilitating sprints and the size of the clients team. 4 to 5 is usually a good sizing for the Sprint team though. We'd recommend having everyone in on your team for the full four days for maximum alignment and clarity too.
I have the same question,! I've been thinking of my back pocket answers and assuming my clients are going to give me the same types of outputs for both. Have you got that video yet?
So just to try and explain it here: HMW's are developed from the group based on what the current challenges are for the product/service/company. Then we vote those up- and move to writing our two year Goal (this is sort of based on what we learnt during the expert interviews/HMW session) After we have decided on an Optimistic 2 year goal, we start to think more pessimistically about the Goal. "What would stop us from getting there?" The Sprint questions are developed from the 2 year goal and should be "answered" by the end of the week. Sometimes the HMWs might be similar to the sprint questions, but remember that they are more focused on the GOAL. I hope that's helpful!!
Hellooo:) Can you give us some tips how a good long term goal looks like? Should it be tangible? When you need to get an idea for a whole website, is that a method that works also for relaunches? I have some difficulties to prepare a long term goal because usually a briefing for a website relaunch has soooo many goals and requirements from the client. Can you help? When they want more users, but also better design and more dialogue with the user and and and...how do you get the right one? I enrolled in your Masterclass and it is really cool btw. thx:)
great method for discovering focus! i can't help but wonder why use sticker dots? why not make everyone just mark a post it with a colored marker to save paper? :)
I doubt it's an issue, but it prevents cheating. Also saving such a tiny amount of paper probably isn't a priority. Especially when those postits are probably just being tossed in the bin.
We usually give the long term goal around 15 minutes total (including people voting and the decision) and the sprint questions about the same. So maybe, 30 minutes for both! This depends also on the size of your team and the pacing. But between 30-45 minutes is loads!
Great video. Just one question. What is the difference between HMW and Sprint Questions? For example, HMW make sure people really understand what the service is? OR Can we make sure people really understand what the service is? Thanks
Thank you for the great video. I'm wondering what is the difference between "how might we..." questions from the expert interviews and the "can we..." questions? What should happen if they are similar?
How might we are the general "Challenge frames" which are used to target the map, the "Can We" questions focus purely on what could go wrong and specifically what we want to ask in the user interviews. It's fine if they're similar because they're used for different things.
Great tips and clear explanations of different parts. However, I am not clear in which order do you do design sprint: 1 Expert interviews & HMW; 2 End-goal & Sprints questions; 3 Mapping. Is it correct? note: In HMW video you are saying that next step is Mapping, however in the Mapping video you already have the end-goal.
why making the long term goal is really matter, if in the next step, we will have to ask questions about what we are going to do? Which I think, it's pretty the same step
Hey Leone, thanks for your question. The Long Term Goal is more about the company goal and the questions are about what could stop us from hitting that goal. Sorry we didn't make that clear.
The long term goals are used to align everyone on what the IDEAL outcome would be, if everything goes well, in two years time. Where-as the How Might We's / Expert Interviews are used to align the team at the beginning of the projects. Hope this helps?
This is our very first video without music in the background... What do you think?! MUSIC OR NO MUSIC? Let us know :)
AJ&Smart music FTW!
you got it Lucas!! No more videos without music :)
no music for sure!
side question: what did you do with the empty post its after the video?
Another really great sprint video! And Dee was fantastic with her guidance and explanations :)
better without music... :)
She has the best voice. Nice to listen and understood.
Thanks Alex!
The way you guys are running your tutorial videos are so engaging, way better than most other crap courses that we can find online

what's the criteria of the chosen question? (the "can we" notes)

I have one doubt how does the long term goal help in designing the product?

Thanks guys. I didn't catch the difference between the HMW and Sprint questions. Are Sprint questions just for greater context?
Chris Federer we’re going to release a video next week to clear this up because we made it a little confusing
I have the same question,! I've been thinking of my back pocket answers and assuming my clients are going to give me the same types of outputs for both. Have you got that video yet?

How would this method work for a freelancer i.e one-man UX team? Asking for a friend.
I second this question
Great video. Just one question. What is the difference between HMW and Sprint Questions? For example, HMW make sure people really understand what the service is? OR Can we make sure people really understand what the service is? Thanks
If we define sprint questions after HMW, could we select sprint questions from selected HMW directly? If not, why?
Thank you for the great video. I'm wondering what is the difference between "how might we..." questions from the expert interviews and the "can we..." questions? What should happen if they are similar?

@@AJSmart In the grand scheme of things, when exactly are the Can We's and the LTG exercise done? Before or after the Map/HMWs?
Does the decider vote has an equivalent, like 1 decider vote is equal to 2 regular votes or something like that?
Yes exactly!!
Thanks!!
Netflix guy is hilarious 😂
should we need to define long term goal during design sprint? Can we define it in advance?
You can gather some ideas of what it MIGHT be beforehand, but its best to create it in the sprint.
