I really appreciate the detailed and unbiased review on the coilovers!!! Super happy I found your channel!!! Wishing you the best with your endeavor, and can’t wait to see what’s next!
When you do an alignment, put your body weight in the driver seat, and put a straight line reference mark on the steering wheel to column where you can see it from outside the car when the steering wheel is straight. Always aggressively bounce the car and roll the car forwards and back when doing an alignment without turn plates. That's what we did in the Spec Miata world.
ABS light is likely due to steering angle sensor needing a zero point calibration since you messed with the alignment. The ECU sees you driving straight but the steering angle sensor doesn't see 0 degrees.
@@gonad244 because ohlins are geared towards racing. You have to realize they build stuff for high performance use. I just bought ohlins for my 3000gt. Don't have them all installed yet. But the quality is so much better than I've seen with out coilovers
Seeing those 2 brands side by side it’s a no brainer, FAs all the way, YS look cheap, the FAs can also be upgraded with a rebuild to the next level eg 5:10s, Silcone Chrome spring (Swift springs as options) Radial bearings, just all round quality, 24 adj rebound, 5 year warranty and they have the service and backup as well which I like so they gonna last as long as you can abuse em. No comparison on the bench or car, YS look like an eBay set frankly, am a little disappointed when see em side by side. Hey brother. Great stuff. Been watching your builds for awhile from the sunshine state. I was just gonna tell that I bought a set of those camber, toe, caster plates, and they work great!! Great video but the only thing I would worry about is the clunking I’ll never see them and the knobs I’m not gonna play with every 5 mins once it’s set it’s pretty much done as long as it works and does good and handles how it should it’s good enough but the Fortune auto look pretty
Great video, as always!!! The FA500s do look so much nicer than the YSRs. Why are the YSR front coilovers so much longer than the FA500?? It looked like it was about 3-4 inches longer, below where the knuckle bolts to it.
I'm not sure but I noticed that too, I think theyrr just using a universal strut and changing thr mounts for vehicle application rather then using a specific strut to each vehicle

TheTopher on You Tube said if you change coil overs on GT86/BRZ gets it very close to feeling like 2017 model, so bet pretty good feeling. Thanks for going through this good to know if I ever buy some new Suspension, for any car in the future. Agree seems the adjuster a bits flimsy on the Yellow Speeds plus clunk noise probably not great, and rust issues. Fortune Auto springs seem much better build wise. I think the clutch will get better as you bed in, my new clutch was like that for a while, and eventually got higher bite.
The clutch has slowly been getting better as I drive it, and th3 yellow speeds aren't totally bad just the price is too high for what you get. If they spent more time in QC they could prob be better. But fortune auto is far better 🔥

I’m new to cars and I’m going to buy these coil overs for my 19 WRX. Can you adjust ride height with coil overs? Just worried about the wheel specs I’m getting with these
You dont HAVE to buy toe plates if you dont want to spend the money lol, you could use 2 equal size pieces of aluminum and a tape measure, but also make sure you take 2 pieces of sheet metal per side and put grease in between them like a sandwich and have the tires sit on those so the tires move freely if not you'll get false toe readings until you move the car back and forth after adjusting the steering rods
so i dont know much about suspension besides what components make up a coilover...but...how do i know what preload to use? do i base it off the factory car specs?
Set ride height to a moderate amount, set dampanening on the middle settings. Pre load should be set around 1/4" and I would suggest snagging some socks for your coilovers. Definitely doesn't hurt to clean them every now and then as well
Having had run both BC Racing BR Series and Fortune Auto on your build, do you think Fortune is worth the $250-350 difference in price? I live in the North East part of the country and the roads here are terrible (potholes, road salt, gravel from the potholes)

I've always used the 500 series which have been more than enough for what I've used them for. There are other great brands out there too though

BC racing qould be a solid option! And i know the feels lol ive been booted from a few groups 😅
ABS light could be due to the alignment being off as wheels are moving at different speeds. Or I'm completely wrong. I'm not an expert.

@@Smeedia oh good I wasn't wrong then. Well could still be wrong but at least not the only one thinking it.
Does the STI/WRX FA 500's have a different pre load compared to the BRZ FA 500's?
They should, the spring rate and weight of thr car should effect pre load settings. I'd have to see a STI set of FA500s to verify though
Hmm I just bought my FA for my 16 wrx it didn't come with no instructions
No paperwork at all?
Just the certificate of purchase and quality inspection
Maybe it is a new thing. The preload was already set from factory
Would you recommend these for light autocross /track use?
Yes, they'd do perfect in both situations
