- Sayantan Dutta is a film critic, who writes about Bangla Cinema in his blog. Recently, one of his write-ups, which criticizes the recent film Aparajito (2022) in a unique fashion, became viral in social media. In this episode he elaborated on his criticism of this film while extending that to contemporary Bangla Cinema and Society. This episode was hosted by Soumik, Pratyay and Srinjoy.

আর একটা কথা, একটা খারাপ ছবিকে অত যুক্তি দিয়ে বোঝানোর কিছু থাকেনা। সমস্যা হচ্ছে দর্শক ছবিটা নিয়েছেন এখানেই সমালোচকের অসূবিধে হয়ে গেছে। আর ওঁর সমালোচনার পয়েন্টটাও পরিষ্কার নয়।
দাদা, জনসাধারণকে খাওয়ানো অত সহজ নয়। ঋতুপর্ণ তখন তাঁর মধ্য গগনে, তা সত্ত্বেও তাঁর রবীন্দ্রনাথ কিন্তু চলেনি।
He may know some theories, some names and may have seen some "good" films, but he absolutely fails articulating a point. Same applies to his blog that I have read. Its disturbingly "noisy" and name-dropped, without reaching to a straightforward point! May be this guy explains "all talk and jo work" phenomenon.
He is quite right about his point...the craft and acting in today's Bengali films are atrocious to say the least! And he is quite well versed in his area
His work lies in criticism, which in a way is all talk. All critics don't make films like Satyajit Ray or Jean-Luc Godard.
If his writing doesn't seem articulate to you.. then I don't understand what really will! There's no pride in dissing people for "name-dropping" in an attempt to justify one's own ignorance. Might as well take a note of those names and try and understand what their contribution is and how those contributions fit the context of this discussion. But then again, that's way too much work compared to being dismissive about them!

ছবির কোন নির্দিষ্ট গ্রামার হয়না। বাইসাইকেল থিপ থেকে শুরু করে পৃথিবীর প্রতিটা শ্রেষ্ঠ ছবিই নতুন নতুন গ্রামার তৈরি করেছে।
আলোচনাটি কোথাও পৌছলো না।
মাফ করবেন। এই ছবিটা নিয়ে আর পাঁচটা ছবির উদাহরণ দিয়ে আলোচনা করা অনর্থক। কারণ "মেকিং অব এ সিনেমা" এই বিষয় নিয়ে কটা ছবি হয়েছে?
কাজেই যে 'নতুন ছবি' অনীক করেছেন, তাঁকে নতুনত্ব দিয়েই ছবিটা করতে হয়েছে। কাজেই বিচার টাও ওই ফ্রেমেই করতে হবে। অন্য ছবি হাতরে বিচার করতে গেলে সম্পূর্ণ ভুল হবে।
