Bubble era anime. Back then Japan was an economical powerhouse so much so that the US feared it could take over them as no. 1 largest economy. Not to mention cel paint was actually expensive back then and you need to hire more people working to paint them thus spending more money. This raise production cost.
The current anime airing in the Spring (2024) lineup is called "Astro Note" has that 80's/90's vibe + the semi-old school art styles. (Winter 2024) lineup had Bucchigiri! by MAPPA which also had the 90's style vibe but in that one the story sucked.
80's and 90's anime body proportions and movement is so realistic compare today art and anime nowaday have a same design same facial features...the only anime that I appreciated animation is shingeki no bahamut virgin soul because of it's dancing animation.
