I think most of us did "some" save scumming to prevent our favorite and or best soldiers from dying.
And by some I mean almost all the time.

One of the coolest moments I've had with WotC was when my covert op had an ambush and I had to get one of my best guys and a rookie out of trouble. I accidentally moved my ranked up character out of cover and almost got killed. But, a hoard of the lost came which took up the advent's attention enough for me to get him to escape with his life. This game is amazing.

I'm imagining the scenario
You move your main guy out of cover, advent sees them, hoard shows up, hoard targets advent, you call skyranger, you escape, advent deals with the hoard which was suppose to be your problem

First non WOTC run although tricky and on rookie went poorly but was completed.
All runs after wemt really well, some even without deaths

After finishing vanilla XCOM 2 (about 60 hours) back when it launched, I've recently bought WOTC and started a new campaign. I'm only a few hours in (just wen through the Skulljacking an ADVENT officer mission), but I'm in love with the Chosen, the Lost and the many tweaks. The game feels really fresh and I'm really enjoying it.
Do u think its better to do a 1st play thru with only the base game or with this add-on? I played just a little of 2 a while back and it felt samey to the 1st game. I like the turnbased action except for the high percentage shots u keep missing and low percentage the enemies succeed to hit. But i find the research side pretty tedious slow repetitive.
@@jacquesjtheripper5922 Well, that depends on how much free time you have. If you have a lot, go through both. The research cycle is the same in the beginning, but the game starts to show it's muscle with the classes, units and new tactical possibilities after about 10 hours in. If your free time is limited and you've ashtray played XCOM1, then go for WOTC right away. It really shakes up the formula. The new enemies and factions introduced add a new layer of strategy and tension. Can't recommend this expansion enough!

This is my first time playing XCOM and I got XCOM 2 on sale and it's fantastic. IDK why I never got into turn based combat games until now.

Welcome, you're here forever. On a serious note, turn based strategy has always been my favorite genre. If you're just starting out I recommend; Final Fantasy Tactics, Xenonauts, X-Com: UFO Defense, and for multiplayer, Atlas Reactor.

Monk Killedababy they come with the Shen’s last gift dlc and normally you get one after a specific mission, though in WoTC they are in the proving ground
Kind of wish they had an extended campaign that advanced the storyline for those of us who already beat the game. I was pretty confused when I loaded it up and started a new game and was having to go through all the same "this is how you start a new research" prompts.
I clicked the game again. The last game was saved in 2017... Now, 8 hours later, I can't stop!

Been playing this expansion almost non stop since tuesday release
I completed one of the avatar sabotage missions with just the reaper hero, snuck in, planted the x4 then frantically trying to dash to the extraction zone and evac, their extra movement is amazing
I played the Chosen now for a few days and it's awsome. Much more complexity and challange than base game. Worth every penny.

Love when they properly mix dlc and the main game together. My problem with games like Skyrim is you have the dlc but its not for the main game really, like you will only find dlc enemies in dlc areas and stuff like that instead of it being the dlc is mixed with the overall game
You missed blade storm, if a group lands near you blade storm kicks in and the Templar hits everyone around him
Bladestorm wasn't a new addition for WoTC. It was in the vanilla game already (for rangers).
And every melee class has a chance to unlock that perk anyway, not just the Templar.

Just finished this game on the Switch. I've done so twice. First the base game, then WoTC, for a total of 255 hours.
The base game is addictive, fun, and hard. WoTC adds several layers to those qualities. It's SO hard but SO MUCH FUN. WoTC doesnt give us a new Xcom game, but it gives us a much BETTER game.
Yes it's hard. But it's just a game so who cares? Don't worry about it.
With remote start you can target any explosive device not just cars and the "advanced abillity tree" is not just for the heroes but for regular soldiers too
But also imagine fighting a boss from the hunt DLC and a chosen at the same time.
Oh God, that sounds like a nightmare, especially if it's the Archon King.
Some ppl complain about the pricetag, but i have to say: its worth it ! Great DLC !
This game is not for the casuals, it's pretty tough especially once you start bumping up the difficulty it becomes borderline impossible to beat. The fact they're making it seemingly even harder with this DLC has me excited. It's nice to lose sometimes, gives you something to work harder towards. I'm guilty of using the same few soldiers on every mission, then when (not if) they die my army is so weak. I like this new fatigue system, it will give me a reason to level everyone up.
This game has been out for three years...three years of me not being able to play it..and now finally my new PC is about to arrive. And I NEVER forgot about it, loved xcom enemy unknown and had to put this at the top of my list.
Heh. I started playing 2 weeks ago and just finished it today. Oodles better than the first game. Can't wait for the 3rd.

Hell yeah, this has been a fantastic series and the devs really show a love for the source and in pushing the game to be better.

I recently installed it again and started playing when I noticed this new huge DLC that's been a hot topic lately, but struggled to find good info about it. WotC is a great DLC! I had a heap of fun playing through it. Building a deep and balanced bench of troops is important.
The Assassin is a the most difficult and powerful Chosen, take her out fast.
Templars are really good.
I didn’t find much use for the Skirmisher.
I usually have a skirmisher with a superior stock and either free reload or expanded mag and use them to at least mop up two enemies.
Edit: and if you have the bonus were your gun mods are better, a constant 8 damage guarantee is now joke.
Honestly , before the Xcom title came up - The trailers gameplay looked like Destiny .
I think that's less of "This looks like Destiny" and how bland and uninspirated Destiny looks.

You ONLY tell things that are said clearly in the early game.
What I would have needed to know is:
1. Do not play the game on PS4 or PS4 Pro in Ironman mode for it is still extremely unstable, and they stopped patching.
2. Do not think you can take your time before eeting the 2nd and 3rd Chosen - they will have become extremely strong because they even train if you do not know of them.
Everything you say is told in the first few weeks.

Bro the other day i missed a 98% shot. The messed up part was that it didnt even surprise me. My ranger went out of his way to shoot THROUGH a wall, meanwhile facing the wrong way when he shot and the game lagged for half a second, and i was like yep. That shit aint hitting

I'm not sure if those covert actions are in the older xcom games, but they definitely are in The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, and I'm really happy to see it come back.

The fatigue mechanic is nothing new for those who playe the Long War mod.

Every time i see this game, i always want to buy it. After seeing this expansion I'm certain this game will be worth every dollar.
When the assassin decimated my A team, i had to use most of the B team (minus my sniper who healed :) ) the sniper decided to cause havoc on the rest of my squad. Took a lot of effort from my sniper and skirmisher to take him down, coming down to a 50% shot that had to roll enough damage. Almost called the skyranger to get me out
I finished Xcom 2 on normal. It was challenging, but not overly difficult. I had a great time playing that game.
I'm interested with this new DLC. It has many interesting new content especially the three new heroes. But, I'll play it on easy because I want to finish this game as fast as possible. I hate playing the same game more than once.
Well, in my opinion the tired soldiers mechanic doesn't do much, because it can't be ignored with a mindshield item in the tired soldier's inventory
If you use tires soldiers, they will be way more likely to suffer from mental illness.
If one of the bonded soldiers died what the developers should have done is added a surprise event where the survivor is either slowly acquiring a skill or a trait that has undesirable effects. OR they could add event where the surviving soldier suddenly becomes a 3rd party traitor because he is angry at you for death of their buddy and he could become an enemy for future missions.
StopFear A soldier that is prepared to die themselves for the cause wouldn't blame The Commander for a death on a mission or go so far as to hinder the resistance as a result
I would say this is again an objective improvement if you want to go back closer to the original X-Com. The game is now far less dumbed down far more complex and has very interesting story telling flavor woven into its core. The Xcom (reboot) was okay Xcom 2 was good and this... finally is enough to just recommend without hesitation.

I also played x-com terror of the deep and x-com apocalypse. Both very scary games. I mean you can't expect to end the game with less than 3 dead soldiers because a lot of them could just one shot you.
A tip for anyone starting out now in 2021, Do NOT send snipers on the covert missions unless you are prepared to lose them, there is nothing worse than getting ambushed and dealing with the lost and having to fight your way to an extraction with 2 snipers......

Actually using sniper soldiers dont sound like such a bad idea when fighting lost sicne you can use the pistol without reloading

Started a new one, guess the 3rd one will be with this expansion.
Some things to add :
You CAN choose to not apply the changes to the previous DLCs if you want to. When starting a new game, it will ask you if you want to "Integrate DLCs". If you let this checked, the previous DLCs' narrative missions WON'T popup and there will be some changes to make it suitable with WotS.
Also, if you want to go back to XCOM 2 without WotS, you CAN without uninstalling it. In fact, you have the choice to launch either XCOM 2 or XCOM 2 : WotS from the launcher, just like they were separated games. (and don't use double the hard drive space needed, meaning that yes, WotS really weighs 30GB)
Hey there.. Some of your information on the Hero classes are wrong, Just the skills/abilities..
Skirmishers -- Their "overwatch" is the same, but they do have the ability to do anything in overwatch, with a skill called "Battlelord" (I think that's the name)
Templars -- They are not given another free turn.. Instead, once you use their melee attack, you get a "Momentum" perk.. which gives you a free *movement* action. It cannot be used as another attack or combo.

8:22 - are you SURE about the 2nd attack from Templars? I don't believe that a second attack is an option. Or I don't recall ever seeing such an option. It's move or deflect/parry the next attack. No attack.
The small attention to detail the posters and memorial make this game so fantastic, other developers should learn from this

Yeah, I'm in. It was between Quake Champions and this DLC, and now that I know more I'm completely sold. I can't wait to try this and it'll be epic when they incorporate this DLC with The Long War mod!

I love that even the switch has the character pool and honestly runs better. I've played when I owned a ps4 and it froze almost once a mission. On my switch it's only frozen once in general.

The only thing he didnt point out is the aliens created by DR Vhalen also will randomly pop up in a mission. I had to deal with the hunter chosen AND Gamma "viper king" at the same time
Reaper is just too OP. Banish skill + superior repeater + superior extended mag = dead alien ruler in one turn. Yaaahhhh... Also if you play this right after playing Long War 2 mod it will seem VERY easy. Still pretty fun expansion. Can't wait to see new Long War mode tho =)

I just started a game with this expansion with the previous DLCs also installed for the campaign. Odd that the default for WotC leaves them out.
they probably made it so that players aren't overwhelmed anymore than they already are early game. nice to be able to make sparks without putting my soldiers through the tower

My top War of the Chosen tip: I name my soldiers after my boss and the co-workers I hate the most, that way I don't feel the slightest down, when they get annihilated...
I am surprised they didn’t add like a friendly Chosen hybrid. Maybe could be a traitor or a double agent. Maybe the aliens killed his mom or his human love interest or whatever.
I just got done with my first play thru with War of the Chosen. Now its time to play it on commander difficulty on Ironman mode. I don't know if the wall at the bar for fallen soldiers is going to be big enough...

This dlc adds so many things I do not even understand how I managed to loose only one soldier nine months now in the most difficult setting with ironman
If I’d had known I couldn’t play WoTC without starting a new game I’d probably have bought it before I started playing Xcom 2. I assumed it was DLC post end-game so I could play it after I’d beaten the game. Baring in mind I’d never played an Xcom game before so I didn’t even know if I liked the game at this point but I guess it gives me an excuse to start a new game when I finish my first playthrough!
The new expansion is good. But I still miss putting "Steroids" in my soldiers to make them into super soldiers = Enemy Within. In my opinion for it to be perfect it's just missing mech suits as big as the sectopod. MECH BATTLES!!!! Have a mission where you send only mechs against sectopods that are trying to destroy a city. The map = your mechs, the enemies, and a lot of destructable terrain.
Fat Edgar One of the earlier DLC added a SPARK-unit, which is a mech you can upgrade. You might like it. Believe it was called Shen's Gift.
Valen Pro Yeah. I have all the DLC. I just wanted HUGE MECHAS! lol. With humongous mechas the enemy could've had an excuse to build a giant robot as a side project as bias versa for the resistance.
Wait I have to start a new game to play it...? Well that's perfectly fine because I keep getting my ass kicked and being forced to restart anyways :D don't get attached though? About that... I get attached whenever they actually do something instead of missing 70-80% chances every single time

Lmao it's like they're forcing you to be bipolar about how you feel about them
They get better with PCS and weapon upgrades. Nothings harder than starting with a team of Rookies... or maybe that's intentional to force you to learn better strategies early on. Overall the game seems to have an inverted balance. Basically you have to play your very best at the beginning or risk mistakes that cost you heavily. Only near the end does it feel easier. The end is where you have all the best weapons and skills to really dominate. At some point I had so many leveled up soldiers I lost track of who was who.
biggest fail designs: 1. chance to hit ist bullshit
2. turnlimit and campaign timelimit

In XCOM Enemy Unknown, i had this one sniper chick that went on literally every mission, and was one of the soldiers from the first mission.
She got to Colonel in no time, and was a fucking Psycher. Managed to get over a hundred kills before she finally retired after she got a team wipe with her being the only survivor with 1 health left.
She now lives out her days on the base, telling people how great she was when she was still active, and creating "practically harmless" IED's to "prank" the newbies...
...

Quick note: the Chosen are actually very easy to kill they will usually make a mistake leaving them exposed for shots I haven't encountered the Warlock yet though but the Hunter and Assassin are very easy to deal with
Edit: I encountered the Warlock but went to his stronghold and killed him within one turn so I have no idea what he is capable of
The Assassin is annoying as hell. She shows up at the most inopportune times (when I'm already neck-deep in zombies) and then comes in, hits my guys, then teleports back where if I'm lucky one of my guys MIGHT still have LOS on her. The one I got rolled immunity to overwatch and immunity to melee, so I can't overwatch trap her, and can't lure her into going after my blademaster, and when there's Lost all over the place I can't chase her down.
That said, had my first encounter with the Hunter, and got lucky. He spotted me from halfway across the map during a retaliation mission, was in a doorway that restricted his LOS so it was easy for my guy to get away from his sniper shot, then I landed a grenade in the doorway, which blew out the wall and left him exposed for my sniper and my reaper to finish off.
The video was slightly misleading. The assassin ALWAYS has immunity to overwatch and ALWAYS has weakness to reapers. Each of the other chosen also has 1 guaranteed perk that fits their style and a guaranteed weakness to 1 of the new faction classes. The other positive and negative are random.
They can also gain new perks as the game goes on. My assassin recently gained the perk to be able to summon robot warriors and my warlock can summon stun lancers (not sure if 3rd perk is always a summon or if I just got lucky)
Not always. Those two settings are always true IF you have the story missions turned on. If you play without the story missions, it randomises the Assassin's perks.
What was the guaranteed perk on the Hunter? the one where he reveals concealed units? I haven't met the Warlock yet.
James Austin The mess up I've seen for the Assassin is she will throw a grenade you won't see much but you can go to where she is and see her and kill her
Yeah, her blinding grenade only makes it so you can't see more than like 3 squares from the effected character, but you still have full visual range on everyone else so if you get them close they'll be able to get a shot.

honestly ambush missions are good for you as they are ludicrously easy if you have at least 1 decent soilder (and missions with ambush chance usually require sergeant's) and the killing of pods of 1 trooper and a officer (basically all ambushs iv been in excluding the lost of course) you can kill them and get juicy exp
also side note: lost are really nice for dealing with stun lancers cause they like to stun instead of headshot

I really get a warm and fuzzy feeling while I play xcom.
When I first played wotc I was like oooh new types of classes fun! Then I learned about tiredness, and with 9 classes (if you have spark) you can’t just use the same squad for every mission
I know I'm a little late to finally be checking out indepth stuff on War of the Chosen, I never beat the vanilla xcom 2 on pc although I got pretty far into it and loved what I played, really dark and tense atmosphere and great soundtrack that gets you pumped....I may have to get this...I never ended up getting Enemy Inside for the other xcom from 2012, it sorta irked me since the expansion at the time cost quite a bit more than the main game did lol, and I had long ago already beaten the story....but this seems like what it adds I'd genuinely like. To me looking on the world map with that theme playing and having to reduce the doomsday counter and being strapped for resources man....I don't think any other game has made me feel that way before, I felt like the odds were really against me but I somehow always ended up doing ok
actually the whole impossible to hit Spectres while moving in cloud form is either bugged or isn't true. It's probably just a ridicoulusly low percent to hit, but one of my soldiers did hit it for full dmg, not to mention the recoil dmg from the stock upgrade. Though I've seen that miss too.
toaLewanuva they have lightning reflexes. thats why they are near impossible to hit with overwatch
So is this a separate game from Xcom2 ? Or a DLC ? If it's the first one should I buy this first before Xoom 2 ? I haven't played XC2 yet but I loved XCEnemy unknown and within.

War of the chosen. Similar to how xcom EU and EW were, just start with the Dlc enabled playthrough.

How are you suppose to get the trophy or achievement that requires you to have a the single soldier in every mission?
Fatigue probably goes away like "Wounded" status, so it's more of the same, you just have to plan better.
That is an Xcom 1 achievement, that isn't in Xcom 2
The chosen are not quite that flexible, they always have a weakness to their corresponding faction type and they always have one benefit that matches their play style but the other strength and weakness can be interesting. The hunter will bring the fight to you while the warlock usually seems to lurk near the objective and the assassin mostly stays at a distance. Unless your at max difficulty they are usually not too hideous to defeat I'd say the boss critters from the last DLC are considerably tougher if far less annoying. Expect them to turn up when your already in deep trouble especially the hunter she seems to always jump in when I'm neck deep in lost. I do like how they incorporated the old DLC although it would have been nice to leave in Shens Gift and at least explaining the connection between Valen and her test subject creations.
I found that the trick to the lost is to stand everyone on top of a car or fire escape, and position someone at the top of the ladder. The Lost can't climb the ladder then!

I've had this game since launch and I ALWAYS get caught by a UFO and die in the mission or get a near total party wipe no suitable replacements. I've never won a game and this has been my COVID Obsession
You know it's bad when I'm forced to practically negotiate with the chosen.
The assassin basically had my whole squad on 1 hp and seeing one was dazed i left him there praying she'd just take whatever she wanted and leave. She took whatever information she wanted and left my entire squad with a new fear.

Mostafa Ahmad It feels like a new game, IMO. So many things have been added and changed. Like Stocks allowing you to always do 1 damage when you Miss. Always. And Research opportunities that allow you to complete important things quickly. That's called a "Breakthrough." There are also "Instant" autopsies. It's fuckin sweeet. Oh, and there are Perks that you can pick, and swap out. There's many different Perks, like bonus Supplies for completed missions. ;)
I really like the Breakthroughs. It really can change up your plans. In my current play through I got a Breakthrough for better riffles giving them +1 damage and next I am getting a breakthrough for mag weapons. So far it is looking really good.

Breakthroughs are a game changer... I'd always do my research in the same order because it seemed objectively better, but now there's an incentive to do things completely differently. Thanks to breakthroughs I really got to rush psionics and now I have a highly leveled psi-op while I'm still on tier 2 weapons and armor. The lack of firepower is starting to become a bit of an issue, but having abilities like void rift, inspire and stasis this early in the campaign makes up for a lot of the added difficulty. To illustrate how early I am in the game: I haven't done a single alien facility mission yet and just met my first Andromedon.
