Hi Tom we had issues with the rotavirus and the vaccination worked for us. However from what I understand the vaccine is to improve the quality of the cows colostrum that provides the immunity to the calve. It might be worth testing your colostrum and having some intervention when ur feeding the calf its first milk by adding something in to the colostrum to help prevent it
Happy new year Tom, that was very interesting it looks like you have plenty to do keeping you busy. Why can you not have Yorkshire boarding or open boarding it makes sense to me 🤔. All the very best to you and all the family for the new year .
Cows like there buddy so When carving best keep Close to the herd but set up Good looking happy and Warm tin roof cold and damp no good for grain shed asbestos his best keep dry and warm not Defra say lots of empty tin Barns in fields but don't Get the house for free
Not a farmer but had lots of family that had sheep and cattle and watch way too many UK/Irish farmers on youtube. But have seen a couple of farmers going back to white washing inside walls of the sheds they calved in because of problems with BVD after a couple of years of using different antibacterial washes that didn't seem to work. Not sure if it will work on rotavirus. And guessing with dairy cattle walls would need the white wash put on every year as they spend bit more time in the sheds compared to a beef farm
How about perforated metal sheeting for the shed sides? Still look like fully clad but let light and air through. Look up WardysWaffle, he has some on a grain shed

Thanks definitely something I'll look into.
Very simple vaccination for rotavirus when drying off. Will be an absolute game changer, surprised your vet hasn’t mentioned it?
We did try it and didn't have much success teally

Yeh it was suggested at the time. Thanks
What’s the deal with Allan? You rent the farm or share farm it?
