Are Black Americans held to a higher standard because of stereotypes that Americans have about Black people and Black culture?
Do Black Americans have to code switch to succeed professionally and personally?
Do all people have to learn to follow society’s norms in similar ways, or are Black people affected in a unique, particular way?
How much do different cultural ways of living based on race create barriers between Black and white Americans and matter in our world today?

Personally yes because of heightened awareness, but we cant know how often one is stereotyped against, so its hard to say if they are stereotyped less than they think, but the level of alertness when you're dealing with someone who could be problematic based on key signs from experience has its pros and cons, yet is an necessary survival instinct to judge and stereotype, fortunately and unfortunately.

@@healingrace3491 pros it can save your life because you're on high alert, cons you are sensitive and critical, which aren't cons in of itself, but depending on one's judgement and ego, you can see anything as confirmation.

Thanks for sharing,@@matsalvatore9074! What do you think is the best way to balance these - how can we as Americans engage with one another in a way that protects oneself but doesn't needlessly push people away who aren't a threat? And how do you think one should judge whether the threat is enough out there that one needs to engage with caution? We'd love to know more of your thinking on this!

@@healingrace3491 ways to balance such is by being observational of your own emotions and by being honest with yourself if you're reserving benefit of doubt, or you may be wrong. Why do you feel that way and not just accepting "because I do"
As for identifying and how to engage when you think you are being stereotyped or more, I say if yiu followed the first part and still feel the same, remove yourself immediately. Trust your guts. Maybe you're wrong and maybe you need to practice the first part more, but don't dismiss your feelings.
I think that's a way to balance is just being open minded and not being defensive, but still going with your gut.
