What a glorious weekend! A win at Brentford, Arsenal drawing with Villa, and United losing to Brighton with a Mark Goldbridge rant the cherry on top. Happy days indeed.
What’s so interesting when you’re in a title race is how a season isn’t just 38 individual games, the sequence of them and wider context is so important. Had we drawn yesterday away at Brentford whose home record is fantastic, as a stand alone result I think you could say it’s a decent point. However the context of having drawn two games recently and had Arsenal won their game it would have felt like 2 points dropped. And a big 2 points at that. Had we beaten United and Forest (also again, a draw away to third in the league and our biggest rivals certainly not terrible stand alone results) the narrative around a draw with Brentford would have been totally different. In general draws are interesting results because they can form part of a winless run or an unbeaten run depending on the results either side of them.

What a contribution from the three substitutes yesterday. I find the Núñez and Origi comparison quite lazy to be honest. I get it in terms of the clutch winners they've produced, but in terms of actual talent and production they're a world apart. Origi's best season for us in terms of pure output was 9 goals and assists. Núñez got 31 goals and assists last season whilst having a really bad/unlucky finishing season. Hes clearly been poor this season and potentially isn't going to be a Liverpool player long term, but the Darwin Núñez of last season is one of the best strikers in the world and if another club can work with his skillset they're going to get a hell of a player. The big man has a huge part to play the rest of this season.
thank you for the measured take on nunez. he seems like a great guy to have around the dressing room and no one can doubt his effort. but we've been here before - he finally scores, we think its going to click for him, but he can't put a run of good form together and goes back to making braindead decisions and trying to break the record for getting caught offside. i agree that its best for all parties if he leaves in the summer.
Seems like there's a few fans who think Nunez will be sold in the Summer but I wouldn't be to sure of that, more likely Jota gets sold and replaced because of his age and lack of availability through injury. With Nunez he's still young, good fitness levels and I still think we can get more out of him
That's a shocking take. Jota is the best finisher at the club. His last 2 real injuries were: Getting dragged down and landed on by a Chelsea gronk. And: Someone falling on his knee. Not muscle injuries. Impact injuries don't mean you're injury prone. It's a contact sport. Not all injuries are the same. Players pick up niggles very easily when returning from a long stretch out of the team. Training can't match the intensity of matches and that means players take time to readjust. Jota is miles better than Nunez. We'll sell Nunez *because* he's younger and we're likely to get more for him - which we need given the outlay. Shocking take.
Re the title fight with Arsenal. I was surprised that the guys did not mention that Arsenal, now being virtually out of both domestic cups, have a significant factor in theri favour over Liverpool. They will now have a 10 day rest next month, and during those 10 days, we will have to play four matches (assuming we beat Plymouth in FAC and Spurs in the LC). Then we both play two games and they get another week's rest whilst we play in the FA cup. The April and May schedules are pretty similar, so they will get regular 'breathers' whilst we will be playing every 2-3 days for the next 4 months. That is a huge advantage to them. I still think this will be close and probably to the wire. Unless we lose the Plymouth and Spurs games that is ...

I think nunez needs a run in the side of at least 10 games either starting or not. Slot quite clearly is trying to work a system that benefits his skill set. The Darwin thing is baffling. He misses less big chances than either Diaz or Jota - that's a fact - and Liverpool score more goals and win more points when he plays than when he doesn't. His G/A record is comparable to Firmino's, the man he was brought to replace. These are also facts. Yet because everyone assumed we were getting an Orthodox goalscoring number 9 - something Liverpool haven't had since Torres, really - he's "shite". Apparently.
@@ApeOfMyIdeal depends over how long you’re measuring but Jota 100% is more clinical and converts more chances. Don’t believe everything you see online
Sorry but you're just making things up and I won't let that go unchecked. Before the start of this current season, no player in Europe's top 5 leagues had missed more big chances than Nunez the previous two seasons combined. He was also the biggest xG underperformer in the Prem last season along with the most offsides. Comparing his numbers to Bobby's is also incredibly disingenuous when Bobby was ACTUALLY playing as a false 9. So I really don't know why you've decided to lie about his stats then compare him to a player who's whole job was to be a facilitator for two other attackers whilst also supporting the midfield. Nunez has never had that responsibility. And yes he was signed as a goalscorer. Jurgen literally said that when we signed him. Google it. He had just come off a season (which is now obvious was a freak season) where he bagged almost 40 goals and had a higher conversion rate than Lewandowski and Haaland that season. It's OK to back Nunez. That's your choice but don't spread misinformation on a public platform because someone will check you on it.
