I worked for Walden Books when your first book came out. I remember being puzzled that there was no meat and no oil...I made a lot of recipes out of that book after I bought it. Sloppy Lentils are still my favorite recipe of all the 100's of vegan recipes I have tried.
As always, an excellent lecture by Dr. McDougall. I first learned about him and a whole plant food starch based diet when I watched Forks Over Knives in September 2019. I began reading and watching videos to learn as much as I could. I have lost 120 pounds eating a whole plant food starch based diet! I only wish I had known about it sooner. Thank you Chef AJ and Dr. McDougall for continuing to reach and educate as many people as you can! You changed my life! ❤
Chef AJ - with unimaginable gratitude for having Dr John McDougall who is so well loved. Question - Chef AJ I bake my potatoes in microwave because I am trying to eat healthy on the run. Is it true that microwaves destroy vitamins and minerals? I do not know where to find the answer to this question. Laura in Toronto
Thank you Doctor McDougall for your caring presentation here, to help us learn about the great benefits of the high carbohydrate, low fat, wholefood way of eating plan. Low carb never worked for me, it wasn't until I tried your approach, that I realised what I had been missing out on all these years. I am so glad I gave it a go, I am convinced this is the way to go for our welfare. You do have to be willing to be different from the crowd, but I think that is a small price to pay for the overall joy it brings to your life.
Last night, I commented on a video named "Save your lower back" by a UA-cam account calling themselves Ketogenic Fitness. I wrote, "Keto -> atherosclerosis -> degenerative disk disease." They answered back with a couple of lies. They wrote, "Your first premise is wrong, incorrect, misinformed, and scientifically disproven. Which invalidates your second.
AJ can you talk to Dr. McDougall about writing his memoirs. He could weave the McDougall Diet throughout the pages. How he met his wife his stories about Hawaii etc. It should be his last book. Maybe his fans could come up with a title
I love the McDougall diet - its basic , tasty, truly healing and kind to the World - and this was a very fine lecture showing that historical evidence of food and health. Its truly inspiring. Its good for us. Good for the animals and good for the Earth. And if you want to eat a little animal, keep in as low as possible .... at the maximum about 5% - 7 % of your total dietary approach 🎶🍀🎵💚🐸
WFPB for 4 years now and I've never felt better. I just thought that I would put it out there - I think it would be great if you could have an online debate with the carnivore Bat Kay. He professes that all the science out there is wrong except the science that he teaches. I think it would be a great debate.
That guy bart doesn't operate in good faith. Should just ignore him. There are others that are far more interesting and honest. Petro Dobromylsky at hyperlipid is far more interesting and researched.
A friends of mine has been eating low carb, almost carnivore diet for 2 years now. He’s 52 years old, skinny and labs showed good cholesterol levels and everything else looked good. How is that? I would have figured his LDL would be high.
I'd ask for numbers. Oftentimes, physicians will say labs look good with total cholesterol 200 or even higher. Also, if someone is undereating calories their numbers might possibly be good, especially while losing weight, but that's not sustainable long term and even though 2 yrs is a chunk of time I wouldn't call that long term. Just thoughts from personal experience and what I've read and researched myself. I'm not a doctor.
There are always outliers that show alright numbers where others would be half dead. This isn't to say he will be ok in the long run, his body works the same as ours and will run into the same problem others do eventually. Check out dr. Peter Rogers lectures on fat and how it enters our cells and causes havoc for our systems.
@@11235Aodh exactly! Dr Rodgers is tremendous. I can tell you from experience the carnivore craze does not end well. BUT there are plenty of reasons why it works for awhile. If you think about the SAD it's probably around 45-50%fat. So if you start just eating steaks and ground beef you're bringing your fat intake down to 20-25% maybe 30% but it's hard to stomach that much beef tallow. And your calories will be limited because of that. It's nauseating. The reason carnivore came about is because keto and the like do not lead to sustainable weight loss and health so people need to get more and more extreme to keep the weight off. There are plenty of accounts of people burning out and getting themselves into trouble on carnivore. Many of them end up on the ray peat forum. I was very reluctant to believe the vegan doctors, but they are correct. Most of us would do well to follow their advice. I'm glad I was able to open my mind up and try it.
This guy sounds more like a “Quack” than anybody I’ve heard discussing diets!!! I ate everything I wanted for 68 years, until I got a pre diabetic score of 6.2. ❤did research and tried the keto diet. Never felt sick or weak, lost 35 pounds, blood pressure improved to normal along with blood sugar. Lipid panel which was alway normal improved with the exception of ldl going up some. Feel absolutely great, more energy ,, tendinitis gone unless I eat cake or pies. I have tried to learn as much as I could about nutrition lately. A lot of his points seem off-base from what I experienced?
@@boatbumpkin402 Things i take away from it is, our cells need oxygen, cancer cells do not need oxygen, fat inhibits oxygen transport to cells. So it can never be a good thing.

I’m eating a sweet potato, russet and broccoli 😀

This archeology and cultural information is invaluable.

They are in such denial aren't they?
You are right, dr. Peter Rogers has some video's on this aswell.
So glad you did that...i would have seconded your comment.

The carnivore and keto pushers are the worst.
Would love to see that debate. Bart Kay would crush him. There is little to no science in McDougall's claims.
@@sheilacollins9384 I think it would be very interesting for both sides. Love to see it.
