      Susan is amazing. Last year I lost my wallet at London Pride I bumped into her whilst looking for it. After I explained what I was doing she just handed over £50 and told me I could stay with her friend. I didn’t but how kind is that of her. A tiny woman with a huge heart.

    Hello! Big fan of QI, but as a resident Filipino, I just need to make two small corrections to the statements they said about the Philippines, just to get the facts straight:
    1) The bayabas (guava fruit) located here are green in color and not yellow, this statement really threw me off.
    2) We actually do have a word in Tagalog (our national language) for banana and it's "saging" but we can use banana and saging interchangeably in a conversation so it's still technically correct.
    Additional fun fact: we also have another variety of banana that's originally from here that's very popular and it's called saba. It's a banana that's normally cooked into food to add sweetness to savory dishes, or deep fried by itself or in a spring roll wrapper and it's extremely delicious!

      I get that when I don't sleep enough or am overstimulated. Someone I knew had the same thing. He would hear his name being yelled by his girlfriend (that was me, I was not yelling.)
      He usually heard it right before going to bed or before waking up.
      I hear the high pitch peeeeeeeeeeep after a long day, as well as voices and sometimes my name. But only then and sometimes it turns it is just loud neighbours yelling at eachother or the tv in someones house that has the window open.
      This morning I woke up, thinking there was something horribly wrong in my head, only to find that constructionwork had started to ram metal poles into the ground and the BAM.BAM.BAM.BAM. sas a real sound. At this point I just assume it is all real. Unless someone calls to me when I am home alone.

    TIPS in america. the reason tipping is acceptable in america is because the wait staff usually gets paid LESS THAN 3 DOLLARS AN HOUR in 2023, and nearly all of their actual income is based on those tips. recommendation for tipping, 15%, and do it in cash that you hand to your waiter directly because the digital "add it to my credit card bill" tip gets divided between all of the staff instead of the one who worked to keep your glasses full and your plates moving. btw, in 2023, the national minimum wage for a living wage is still set at well below 9 dollars an hour, when the actual calculated minimum wage where 40 hours a week can afford the basics is over 22 dollars an hour.......... so if in america, PLEASE tip your wait staff! it literally is feeding their kids.

      $5 an hour?? thatd be a blessing compared to the 'tip-based' jobs ive worked...here, servers are locked to a mere $2.13/hr (basically enough money to cover the taxes taken out from your income-- your 'paycheck' would often amount to $0.00 every week or two, depending on the rate of paydays)...on the one hand, it lets restaurants exploit their employees into Free Labor, because the customers are supposed to foot the majority of your earnings with their tips...but on the other hand, theres a lot of shitty customers whod say things like 'i already had to pay Five Bucks for a handful of french fries-- i could buy a sack of potatoes and make Pounds of em for the same money; why would i want to fork out More money to the shmuck who merely brought them to our table?' or 'why should i pay this employee? isnt that supposed to be the Restaurant/Employer's duty?'...
      ...basically, being a server is a fate that i wouldnt wish upon my worst enemy...bartending might be better, especially after the first few rounds go down...alcohol definitely loosens up the wallet lol

      It would appear on a map to be quite separate from Scandinavia, but they are in fact part of the five countries which make up "The Nordic Countries" officially. These five often define what is Scandinavia in many circles. They were settled by Nordic people and dominated by Denmark for about a century. In the end, it depends on who you're talking with. Perhaps she takes her position due to the Denmark connection.

      @@daedala70 Nonsense.. well, Fry would have a go at Alan on regular basis, sure, but that's more or less what Alan is there for, so that doesn't count. And on the _rare_ occasion Fry mocked any other panelist, he'd always retract and even apologise for it after. She however just goes in full-on with not a hint of reservation, let alone apologetic.

      Eddie Icelander I have seen every episode at least 4-5 times and Fry didn’t always apologise. But still I’m sure that not a single guest guest took offence because they knew that it was all in jest. Even though Sandi left Denmark as an 8 year old, she has the typical Danish sense of humour which is extremely sarcastic but never malicious. I don’t think they would keep her on if she truly offended guest after guest.

    • @MrIcelander
      @MrIcelander 3 роки тому +1

      @@daedala70 Of course she hasn't actually offended them! That's not what "taking the piss" means or is about, at least not in the british sense of this very british expression, and that wasn't at all what my initial post was suggesting.
