I was at the race this weekend. There was a lot of wind this weekend that's for sure. That was the most wind I've ever dealt with at a NASCAR race before.
Fox no longer followers storylines during the race unfortunately. I thought the race was really good but wish they could come up with something to prevent aero blocking from influencing a good race. Imagine if this was the case back in 2000 when Bobby Labonte was racing Dale Earnhardt at Atlanta for the win or in 2001 where Jeff Gordon was racing Kevin Harvick at Atlanta for the win. We would have missed out on some great finishes. I think we are missing out on some great finishes due to dirty air preventing the second place car from being able to pass. I think back to 1998 through 2001 and there were many good finishes then (think of Bobby Labonte’s duel with Dale Earnhardt Jr at Pocono in 2001); NASCAR needs to figure out what’s changed and go back to that.

I think he was trying to hard to make up for the start at the back, but he didn't need to by then. He had already driven up to earn stage points. Maybe he didn't know he was 8th place. He had the car to win today, no doubt, if he doesn't make that mistake
I think the following teams have race-winning capabilities this year: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 16 (with AJ at a road course), 17, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 34, 42, 43, 45, 47, 48, 54, and 99. I think that's 26 different car numbers I just listed. Would not be shocked to see any of these win. The only chartered cars I'd be shocked by would be the 4, 10, 15, 21, 31, 41, 51, or 77. Even some of those I could see winning on a strategy call. The parity is wild.
I'd be pretty surprised, but maybe not fully shocked, if the 2, 3, 6, 7, 14, 16 even with AJ at a road course, 34, 42, 43, 47, or 54 win this year. Refreshing to see Gibbs and Gragson battling today. Very disappointing they couldnt fill high expectations last year, but its fun watching them when near each other
Noah would be 18th without the points penalty ahead of Briscoe. Who knows how Atlanta would have went if it wasn’t for lap two because Briscoe was fast there as well.
Spire really impressed today. Especially LaJoie. He legitimately ran top 5 for a pretty good portion of the race. Even Hocevar raced right outside the top ten for most of the race
Byron had one good restart and a little speed early, but he was never even a factor in the top 10 for the rest of the race and didn't even sniff the top 5. It is remarkable that his engine lasted the entire race after getting over 350 degree water temps from the trash bag.
I’m not worried about RFK at all, they were in a great position to win the 500 until they got taken out by Hendrick, and it was just bad luck at Atlanta. Chris had a tire issue, but not much he can do about that, and Brad brings it home 13th, which isn’t bad in my opinion. With all things considered, I think it’s been bad luck for RFK.
The rumors of SHR'S demise may be a bit premature. Gragson and Briscoe both spent significant time in the top 10 today. They seem to have found some intermediate speed.
overall pretty solid weekend, every race was clean, the rajah win was pretty cool, also spire was really good this weekend, lajoie and hocevar both ran really well today, and a huge top 10 for gragson, but i won’t get too optimistic because SHR is super inconsistent but hopefully it’s atleast a sign of good things to come. larson is pretty hard to beat on the intermediates when he doesn’t screw up on his own
We know of multiple times where a driver wins the first two stages and the race, but is this the first time somebody has finished second in all of those?
Kyle busch would have had a good run today if his pit crew wasn't selling him. This is 3rd time this season kyle busch has speed in his car he can't get the win ‼️
as a keselowski fan (since 2011) and now rfk fan, I'm not worried at all about rfk, we're 3 races in and only seen 2 types of racing, buscher was near the front till the wheel came off, and brad was hovering around 20th till the end getting 13th, no worries from me
Elliott and bowman missed a lot of races last year due to injury and with no testing there behind everyone else I’m feeling what this car needs on a weekly basis I’d expect by summer they will be running well provided no major setbacks
Are they even 100%? Or are they Ryan Newmans in better equipment? Don't get me wrong I ask as both a Bowman and Elliott fan, but I still gotta ask the question ?
I think it needs to be talked about how a ford has won pole every race this year and Chevy is dominating the wins in all 3 series since last year’s championship. A bold prediction for y’all is SHR wins a race this year
Briscoe and Gragson give me some hope for SHR, though Preece and Berry need to step up as the veteran drivers Front Row once again min-maxing their qualifying on the 34 only to become a lemon and fall back a ton The Keebler Elf Hocevar defying all my expectations Not a very interesting race, but those performances do have my attention
Something worth noting would be the 22 team’s strange start to the season. 3/3 front row qualifying spots, but nothing to show for it. It was an unfortunate situation at Daytona with the crash, but they just didn’t bring it today in terms of speed. It’ll be interesting to see if they can straighten out the Raceday execution issues
Awesome job Gragson! Put him in a better equipment and he will start showing up here and there. I wish Eric Jones could have gotten a better opportunity as well.
I am 6 fan and quite worried / surprised with RFK. 6 had speed at Daytona and Atlanta but was sandbagging a lot but just sucked yesterday. I watched in-car / scanner and a few adjustments / he had an OK car on LONG run. No speed
Bubba: Hey, pit me again when the leaders fall off. Bootie (asking Freddie): What’s he saying? Freddie: He wants to come back in for tires so he can help Tyler some more. 😂 Bootie: Yeah, we’re not doing that. We’re gonna stay out. I presume Bootie wasn’t interested in getting accused of race manipulation if Bubba got too involved in helping the 45 win. That’s why when the 5 caught up to him, Bubba didn’t hold him up and didn’t try to push the 45 anymore. He just got out of the way. It was cool to see him helping Tyler close the gap though, before they short pitted the 5 trying to come out ahead, but lost time because of a slow stop on the 45.
@@ovalhead1412this is literally the conversation that went on over the scanner. Bubba wanted to pit again for tires to help Tyler again, and Bootie said no.
I agree with the worry about RFK BK was getting more competitive as the Atlanta race went on and I had hoped he’d be in the mix at the end. Both RFK cars should have identical performance under the hood but it seems like they dump all their resources into the 17 and just figure it out with the 6 later.

It is remarkable that his engine lasted the entire race after getting over 350 degree water temps from the trash bag.
My boys Truex and Jones had decent races but McDowell had issues. here’s hoping he’ll win one of the few road courses
Ford ought to figure something out they only have 1 car top 10 in points and 2 in top 16 and only 3 in the top 20
Wanted to hear your thoughts on Rajah Caruth’s win but you didn’t make a video! Bummer. Was so happy for Rajah!
hey eric, what camera do you currently use? the quality looks fantastic!
I was really impressed with Gragsons drive. I am hoping to see him running top 10 regularly... not holding my breath... but hoping haha.
Byron kept getting pelted by the bad luck bug, yet he just kept bringing the car forward to finish 10th, I'll say that's an excellent day!
RFK should get a technicle alliance with Penske.
I feel like the higher front fenders on the Fords are the issue honestly. Those are massive and the wind made it a factor.
overall pretty solid weekend, every race was clean, the rajah win was pretty cool, also spire was really good this weekend, lajoie and hocevar both ran really well today, and a huge top 10 for gragson, but i won’t get too optimistic because SHR is super inconsistent but hopefully it’s atleast a sign of good things to come. larson is pretty hard to beat on the intermediates when he doesn’t screw up on his own
My man Josh berry got top 20 and that’s cool if you ask me
We know of multiple times where a driver wins the first two stages and the race, but is this the first time somebody has finished second in all of those?
Likely, somebody give Larry Mac a buzz on the old hotline
Kyle busch would have had a good run today if his pit crew wasn't selling him. This is 3rd time this season kyle busch has speed in his car he can't get the win ‼️
carson Hocvar made me proud of not taking out Clyde and others he raced.
as a keselowski fan (since 2011) and now rfk fan, I'm not worried at all about rfk, we're 3 races in and only seen 2 types of racing, buscher was near the front till the wheel came off, and brad was hovering around 20th till the end getting 13th, no worries from me
Elliott and bowman missed a lot of races last year due to injury and with no testing there behind everyone else I’m feeling what this car needs on a weekly basis I’d expect by summer they will be running well provided no major setbacks
Are they even 100%? Or are they Ryan Newmans in better equipment?
Don't get me wrong I ask as both a Bowman and Elliott fan, but I still gotta ask the question
?
Pretty sure Mr Hendricks makes them share test information
Had to miss today's race, unfortunately. I got the news later today about Larson winning, so that was great. Thanks for the race recap.
I give the race 82 on the Groove gauge
Oh man I hope I get to see ya!
@Eric, the interesting story around the Bubba issue was him teaming up with Reddick to try to get him to Larson, but young money was too good today 😎
I think it needs to be talked about how a ford has won pole every race this year and Chevy is dominating the wins in all 3 series since last year’s championship. A bold prediction for y’all is SHR wins a race this year
That is bold. I'd like to see it, but....
Briscoe and Gragson give me some hope for SHR, though Preece and Berry need to step up as the veteran drivers
Front Row once again min-maxing their qualifying on the 34 only to become a lemon and fall back a ton
The Keebler Elf Hocevar defying all my expectations
Not a very interesting race, but those performances do have my attention
Kyle Larson 3 years ago got his first HMS win at Vegas
Entertaining race. Vegas is underrated
last thing NASCAR wants to see is all 4 hendrick cars running for the championship in the final 4
I feel bad for KBee that was not on him.
Kyle Larson saw what Max did on Saturday and thought to himself, “Why dont I go and do that 😂
Perhaps a dumb question, but what exactly is aero blocking?
Something worth noting would be the 22 team’s strange start to the season. 3/3 front row qualifying spots, but nothing to show for it. It was an unfortunate situation at Daytona with the crash, but they just didn’t bring it today in terms of speed. It’ll be interesting to see if they can straighten out the Raceday execution issues
They've hardly shown speed since most of last year. Something is clearly off with them and the 2 car.
Awesome job Gragson! Put him in a better equipment and he will start showing up here and there. I wish Eric Jones could have gotten a better opportunity as well.
That plastic bad basically ending Byron’s day helped a bunch
I am 6 fan and quite worried / surprised with RFK. 6 had speed at Daytona and Atlanta but was sandbagging a lot but just sucked yesterday. I watched in-car / scanner and a few adjustments / he had an OK car on LONG run. No speed
Larson fans feeling great. Cliff Daniels for president!
Amen! Easily one of the most smart and calculative crew chiefs to ever be in the sport!
Let’s go Larson!! Will be in Phoenix this upcoming weekend excited to catch your live show
23x11 needs to make changes to Bubba’s pit crew before the wheel nut issues they already him him 3 laps down.
Same goes for my guy KB, mistakes on pit road all 3 races. Same problem as last year. But atleast they have speed, even Dillion had a solid run.
Bubba: Hey, pit me again when the leaders fall off.
Bootie (asking Freddie): What’s he saying?
Freddie: He wants to come back in for tires so he can help Tyler some more. 😂
Bootie: Yeah, we’re not doing that.
Huh, he didn’t want to manipulate the race here but he’s ok with race manipulation at Bristol?
@@ovalhead1412this is literally the conversation that went on over the scanner. Bubba wanted to pit again for tires to help Tyler again, and Bootie said no.
I agree with the worry about RFK
BK was getting more competitive as the Atlanta race went on and I had hoped he’d be in the mix at the end. Both RFK cars should have identical performance under the hood but it seems like they dump all their resources into the 17 and just figure it out with the 6 later.
I usually go LOWER on the groovy gauge BUT I think this race was better than 70. Lots of great racing, lots of passing! Many drivers went from the rear to the top 10 multiple times! Maybe 85
