On June 27, 2008, former Indian Chief of Army Staff Sam Manekshaw died. He played a crucial role in India’s victory in the 1971 war against Pakistan. He died of pneumonia in Wellington, Tamil Nadu.

The claim that Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw's pension was denied after his retirement is false. According to fact checks and statements from Manekshaw's daughter, he did receive a pension. The Third Central Pay Commission in 1973 increased pensions for defense personnel, and the Fourth Central Pay Commission accorded a special pay to all marshals of the armed forces, including Manekshaw.

I was in the navy off Vietnam when a US task force was steaming to the Indian Ocean because of the war. I remember that much.

The saddest part is that our government did not even gave a Flag plus not a military parade. Even none of the then armed forces generals visited expect APJ Kamal at Wellington Hospital, even did not got his pension till APJ Kamal sir became president

Watched his interviews and he came across a thoroughly professional but a humble man!
My father's elder brother KC Sengupts was the Ambassador to Bangladesh in 1971
He negociated the peace talks and was kept under House arrest in Bangladesh during that time, but always stated Mujibur Rehman treated him with great courtesy and respect
He has to be given some crédit for ending the Bangladesh war!
He returned to Índia and received the Padma Bhushan..
He was my most favourite uncle and also the most tactless and blunt person in my family!☺️
My father & uncle were from Comilla East Bengal but migrated to Calfutta and settled well before the partitíon .
