finally someone else who does research on their fish !!!!
Great info on the beautiful fish - thanks Sean!
Cool little fish! Love it when they pop up that dorsal fin! You need to watch how Ron Burgandy preps for reading the news in Anchorman, ha!
One of the most beautiful fish I've ever seen! And the colouring of the ones you've got is particularly nice - I've seen some other videos where they look quite subdued. I have a coldwater tank, but if I ever switch to tropical, these are my #1 to try, they're just mesmerizing.
They look really nice love there colors and fins.
For me they were pretty hardy. I bought them knowing nothing, put them into a new tank. None died, lived quite happily even when I was pregnant and could not take care of my tank so well as before.
I went to my LFS yesterday and was excited to see these guys :)
Great video on a great little fish.
I love the look of this tank! I hope you still have it up and running. The light is shining right at the school of them and they always seem to be swimming there, it's neat!
+Fish For Thought no I had to take it down as part of the remodel. The pump finally died after almost a decade. It was getting rough to keep up.
I’m just researching interesting fish to keep and I stumble across a 4 year old comment from Chirs himself! Love the FTRs!
great job cool fish🌱
Really nice Video and beautiful fish.
Glad u made a video of this beautiful species . I actually asked I what kind of fish this was in your last video. Educational I want some now!
Thank You For discussing this species, I was thinking about buying them bud your video talkt me Out Of It. It Is Good To Know it's a difficult species. they are Beautiful Do
I love these, I think they have great, cute personalities
Great video.
Loved the bloopers at the end :)
Just bought some today. Love them!!!!
I like your species info videos and games. Keep up the great Channel Peck... I watched your Aquatic Experience video on Uaru Joey vlog from 2015... you were the most outgoing person of the morning vlog with the mini ketchup bottle at the hotel. .. that made me laugh and I have enjoyed watching your channel since. ☺
Awesome vid...I'm going to wait for one of my newish tanks to really age out...over a year or so...probably do shrimp in the meantime and then try a school of these....so pretty and yet snarky acting with all the flaring towards each other at the same time...love it!
I love these little fish. They are the stars of my rainbow tank. I think I may have some fry. I was hoping you'd talk about what the fry are like.
never knew the scientific name nor have I hever heard them referred to as featherfins. Beautiful!
I love this video , I do not know how many times I have watched it
I bought 2 about 4 months ago. I knew they are hard to keep alive so i just wanted to try them out, to see how it works. Now I want more of them but its very hard to find them in here :( what I like most of them is the amount of low bioload and how cool their behavior in the tank. Its just awesome.
i just ordered 7 myself and then watched this lol very excited to get them in Monday cheers man great video as always good Sir
thank you, Sean, I just bought 10 from Bob Steenfott - great little fishies💕👍
Sehr schöne Aufnahmen und Fische.
That was a great video
Love mine. I have 8 males in a heavily planted 10G. They are always sparring and dancing. I love the way they rapidly flip their first dorsal fin (sail) up and down when doing the dominance thing. Believe it or not, they only get baby brine and Sera Micron.
It's like they are giving each other the finger.
I know I can't flip it that fast.
I had some before, the males are amazing.
Yours are showing so beautifully! How many females to males do you keep? Seems like the perfect ratio. Thanks so much for mentioning they like a mature tank, too.
Very cool fish. Hopefully they'll do well in your tank. The ones I've come across were more blue, must have come from a different place than yours
I saw these fish this week at my LFS. I didn't note the price, because I have all of my tanks fully stocked at the moment, but I'll have to check it out next time. They sure are pretty!
same
Thinking about ordering 100 of these your info was helpful
They're stunning! Is that green eye patch bioluminescent or was it just the angle of the light?
My tank is stable and my water hardness would suit them. I'm tempted. 😊
I love these guys. They look like arrows shooting around my tank.
Better late then later ! It's midnight ! Well I love the bloopers at the end ! I know it's hard to say baby brine shrimp ! LOL But joke aside it's hard to talk to the camera cause we talk to one and other face to face seeing the face the eyes and the body language and to talk to a lifeless camera is hard cause you don't see us and our face and reaction ! Also it is a very nice fish and I never seen this nice and colourful ! I seen this may be 2 times in my life and much drab colour then this guys were ! It really is a nice addition to an established tank and one day I will try too ! Thanks Sean keep on keeping on ! lol
Your light brings out their colors great. What is the light over the tank and what size is it?
Wow, I love these! Since I want this specific color scheme, could you tell me where you got them?
you drilled this one so perfectly. I loved this. I dig yours for that red! I had some way back that were like green/ deep honey. so pretty. feisty little suckers though. I was in the pet store a few months ago and a guy was buying a bunch as live feeders. no lie, I had to go outside and buy an ice cream to get my head right, then came back in.
Oh no what a waste. Lol grow some guppies dude.
It's a waste, not waist.
Thanks
Going to have a look if they have them here.
That algae! I almost like it the way it waves in the current
black beard algae
those are some cool buddies
I've always loved these guys! Now all I need is a tank to put them in...
I had to quit the hobby recently for a few different reasons, but my next tank, when I'm able, will most likely be full of these. I'd let the tank mature with corys and honey guaramis for at least 6 months and let the plants have an opportunity to fill out. I prefer frogbit over duckweed though for floaters
epic clip loved it
I might get some of these cool vid!
This is like my no.1 fish I wanted to keep
Large distribution...awesome vid
what part of the aquarium do they prefer to swim? top level?
does their colo change ? ive seen pics of blue threadfins
I love these guys. I have a 15gal Fluval flex. How many could I keep in that size tank?
I’d say 10 or so.
very nice video!
How to improve their color? I just bought 6 of them. But their color is silver :( . They must be in low light eviroment or lot of plants? Thank you!
awesome!!
They are a really attractive fish.
Do you have any advice on Dropsy in Guppies? I've lost two to it already, another is badly infected (pine coning but oddly seeming to recover - i didn't think they could!) and another is showing early signs of it. I bought them all together, they're all the same 'breed'/colour and i've seen them trying to nip at each other's gill. They, and recently my Zebra Danios, do begin flashing from time to time, sometimes frantically. Could that be a sign of parasites?
They're fed flakes, algae wafers - they were supposed to be for my Otto's but everything in the tank go nuts for them! I stopped giving them frozen foods completely as dropsy would almost certainly appear every time i gave them frozen. From time to time i give them a cooked, pealed pea. The Guppies go nuts for those too.
Water is fine. 0 Ammo, 0 Nitrite,
Can the threadfin rainbowfish eat 0.5mm pellets it looks like it is the size of a neon tetra
Mine are from the Gulbuwangay River in the Northern Territory. Only $6 a pop from a guy who collected and breeds them(aquagreen.com.au). Totally differnt colour form compared to your video. They also love Microworms if you have a culture handy to feed fry.
derek byrne yeah I got mine from aqua green... mine have like a black, yellow, orange and pinky colour on the fins... yours? I have one female with a strong blue yellow colour the other are silver-ish
I got 12 of thses guys today in my 27 gal. with two bristle nose plecos and 4 albino Corys...first time keeping them let's see how it goes
Hi pecktec, I have some Iriatherina, they are growing really good, but I was wondering how do you make yours so colorful? Or do they get that color as they mature?
Same question. I got 6 of them, but are all silver and gray. Sigh...
do you know if threadfins will eat grindal worms
I have a 15g Celestichthys Choprae tank, a 55g denison barb and praecox rainbow tank and I'm starting a 32 gallon tank. I'd like to do furcata and threadfin rainbows, but my roommate wants punk guppies as well. Do you think those fish would work together?
Can these fish be kept with angelfish? Cuz the angels will get to be 6 inches in length and 8 inches in height. And i have 3 of them. And my tank is not heavily planted yet...will that be a problem if i get them?
Kathleen Monsegue they will most likely get bullied and have their fins nipped. Not a very good match
Awesome! You just gave me my next species to work with..
Awesome they are nice if you have a cycled tank ready.
+pecktec I have the perfect tank for them! It's a Blackwater Paludarium with a 6.0 ph 78degrees and soft water. Lots of IAL, Java plants and floating plants so low light.
+pecktec I found a source that has Juvi's 3/4 long that I'm thinking of grabbing..
Thats cool Im going to see how these do for a bit then add more if it looks like the dig my water.
How long to they take to mature? I’ve had mine for about six weeks and they’re still quite skinny and don’t have the red tails like these.
Do you still have them? Can you make a new video about them? I love these fish and would like to keep them, but I want to do everything right :)
where did you get yours? The local stores have some but they are no where near as red as yours!!!!
Who did you get your Threadfin rainbow fish from the coloration is great, also what locality did they come from. The reason I ask is many of the local threadfins that are available are not colorful at all, and I am not interested in those, but yours have beautiful velvety black and red orange coloration. Are they online where you got your fish? Please, I must know because I would not be happy with any others but the coloration and type you got.
My local fish store has them from time to time. I think someone else in town asks for odd ball fish now and then and I pick up the extra ones. Because there is always something new to see. I love these guys though.
hi there....I want to put my threadfin rainbows in my shrimp tank....but I can't find any information if they will eat my shrimp babies or are they safe for my shrimp babies.... can u help?
Where did you buy them?
I just got 2.👍🏻
I have 6 of these I ordered off line. When I got them about two weeks ago they were 3/4" and now they are a little over 1". I've been keeping them in a nursery net so my other fish don't eat them. They don't look like yours but I guess mine are still young. How long did they take to mature for you?
Well these looked muck like this when I got them.
+pecktec lol *much like this..
do a video like this with the dwarf puffer fish
Love these guys. How many males to females do u suggest
I’m not positive but if I recall two females to one male is the better option. If you have it. There are normally so few when I see them or they are really expansive and you can only get a few. So for me it’s normally down to what’s there. You can mail order of course with better options.
@@pecktec thank u so much.
How did these guys fair over the year? 2:47 in there is a blue-grey plant at the very bottom middle. Almost looks like a little grey beard. What is that?
+MasterSlyBry they have done well. That is black beard algae.
pecktec thanks.
How to make my iriatherina as purple as yours?
How are these Threadfin Rainbowfish doing almost a year on, lost anymore or are they still going strong?
+HyPn0o I have about five of them left. I need to get some more.
Finally found a reliable UK stockist of these guys back in December 2017, purchased 8 but lost 2 early on, other 6 are still going; very lively and look really healthy (3 male, 3 female). Their tank mates are Dwarf Neon Rainbow (Melanotaenia Praecox), and mix very well despite the size difference.
Cheers for video, helped when i was looking into keeping Rainbowfish.
Do these eat your cherry shrimp?
Nope
I never get notifications of your videos anymore! (sad face)
Plenty here at my LFS .....$5 each
What's the latest on Charlie and his crew on the aquantim?!?!?
They said to tell you they will be back in a few weeks.
Can you put them with cherry shrimps?
Ahnaf Islam sure mine did fine with them.
@@pecktec thanks man
где купить и сколько стоит
Я не один из России уря
Black beard
How much are they approx ?
Mine were almost $17
+pecktec OMG! $17! Sorry if I seem boastful, but in my country (Singapore) they sell for around US$1 to 1.50 each. That's retail price.
BTW this video is full of info. Thanks.
What! Thats crazy, Then again that may be where these are from. Plain fair is expensive. :)
pecktec here in India they are quite cheap..120 INR that is around 2$ a pair
i plant o put in my 10 gallon planted tank with glowlight danios. 6 of each.
Weird talking about them being rare...saw them today in a big box store...petsense...first time I had ever seen them however.
Good informative video, but you forgot to comb your hair this morning.
For a laugh check out my aquarium plants for beginners video. I don’t know what I was thinking.
i was suggested to keep more females than males in order to stress both sexes less.
Dirty tank with a lot of BBA. Clean filter and do water change every week.
not that simple. if you have a planted tank, you want a slightly elevated nitrate ppm, but with an elevated nitrate level comes BBA
the smaller one you have is indeed a female
those fish are really hard to keep (on rainwater necessary) eating difficult fine food.
