I don't think there is a more beautiful sound on this earth than sohyang singing softly, when ever I'm feeling low I listen to this song it always takes me away from my many struggle and gives me peace.thank whatever higher being you believe in for this remarkable woman..
TYLR, How about that for refreshing? "Misty" is a jazz standard written in 1954 by pianist Errol Garner. He composed it as an instrumental. It was a hit by Ella Fitzgerald in the 50s and famously sung by Johnny Mathis as well. Sohyang sang the Ella Fitzgerald rendition almost to the note. "Begin Again Korea" was a traveling musical ensemble assembled during the COVID pandemic which travelled around Korea performing in parks and open venues on folding chairs. Sohyang can sound perfect in any setting. Thanks for the unusual video. Cheers.

I enjoy your reactions and So Hyang (So Young) is definitely worthy of them. I'm a retired studio/touring audio engineer who has worked with Aerosmith, Metallica, Kiss, Chicago and many others and IMHO So Hyang is currently the best female vocalist on the planet. It isn't only her voice that draws me in which in itself is truly magnificent but it's also her deep connection to the lyrics and the audience. She literally transports me to another plane and I ride with her on the journey through emotions I sometimes forget I have. It's my understanding that the Begin Again Korea series was a series of 5 concerts and to attend you had to win a lottery. Almost all the big named singers were invited and from all I found So Hyang was the only one who accepted. All the other artists were amazed that she was there and said that she had no diva attitude whatsoever and was very friendly and easy to get along with. That makes me love her that much more as in the 35 + years I worked in the industry I met some real A-holes. Currently my favorite song is one that isn't very well known and I actually found quite by accident and is called "Letter". It's about a letter written by a woman after many years of marriage talking about their lives together and how even though there were sometimes difficult times even if she could go back and change things she wouldn't because it led them to where they are now. She picks a couple out of the audience and acts like she's reading the letter as she sings to them and I have to admit it makes me quite emotional. You can find the best live version I have found here ----------->ua-cam.com/video/dhmSWL1Vvto/v-deo.html and the audio only version with English subtitles here---------->ua-cam.com/video/aoCquTBxygI/v-deo.html Keep up the good work....
Great comment. You are definitely from my era. I've seen many of the acts you mentioned. I bumped into So Hyang 5 years ago and I don't miss a day. She freed me from American pop singers that are strutting half naked and only concerned on how the twerk(not all of them). So Hyangs journey is incredible and like you I truly believe she is the best singer I've ever heard. She's more of a throw back, not style, but reason for singing. I've seen Grace Slick, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks and many more. The song and the message ruled. Sounds like had a cool career🤘🤘
The Begin Again Concerts were held when COVID eased up a little in South Korea for a way for people to get together and share life. There are many settings in different places and many songs by a lot of the virtuoso performers of Korea on UA-cam in these concerts. So Hyang has a lot of incredible performances during these concerts and several duets that are amazing, one or two with the younger woman, Lee Suhyun, who was tearing up near her near the end of performance. The younger singers say that when they share the space with So Hyang it is magical when she sings. (So Hyang is 44 now, perhaps 42 or so when this was sung, though one wouldn't know it by her youthful look). The song is from 1954 and is a jazz standard that was made famous by Johnny Mathis, and then the amazing Ella Fitzgerald. Thanks for the reaction. You can see how this woman can sing anything. Her Korean songs are every bit as great. One can completely understand the emotions even when there are no subtitles (which is rare).
Actual it was from 1959 and first really successful recording was by Johnny Mathis( he actually had the biggest hit but ,Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and many others, even Frank Sinatra recorded and had success with it! This is my favourite of this Jazz Classic, her timing and easy nature just make it Stunning! My Friend your just start to get into her many , many Masterpieces! She is my Favourite of all- time! She sings in any genre and Kills It , just an Incredibly Talented gift from, “GOD”,is she:-) Wow,wow, wow !
@@tomsawyer2768 Sorry, it was written in 1954 but made big later. Of course I know So Hyang very well now. She is my favorite singer of all time... not even close.
"Misty" is a jazz standard composed in 1954 by pianist Erroll Garner. Johnny Burke later added lyrics. It has been performed & recorded by many singers, including: 1957 Dakota Staton (1st) 1958 Sarah Vaughan 1959 Johnny Mathis 1959 Count Basie 1960 Ella Fitzgerald 1961 Bing Crosby 1965 Aretha Franklin
As much as I love her "epic" performances, every one of these 'Begin Again' performances are my favorites. The stripped-down, layed-back nature of them allows you to hear so much more of her ability and the subtle nuances she adds.

M{STY is an old class[c from the Great American song book I know it from Johnny Mathis in the late 1959s but this was stylized from an earlier version by Ella Fitzgerald, a style only Sohyang could pull off.
This is now my favorite song by So Hyang! I googled it-Misty first came out in 1959! Amazing performance! I just discovered another great Korean singer named Park Kiyoung. I read that she is good friends with So Hyang. This song by Kiyoung is the only video I could find with English subtitles. It is very Jazzy but also has an older vibe ua-cam.com/video/1GM6AEiLiUs/v-deo.html I subscribed recently and I am enjoying your reactions!

This is an old song, if you noticed the small label down the left when the video started, it's a jazz song by Ella Fitzgerald in the 1950's.
