The Killers - Read My Mind (lyrics)

  • On the corner of main street
Just tryin' to keep it in line
You say you wanna move on and
    You say I'm falling behind
    Can you read my mind?
    Can you read my mind?
I never really gave up on
Breakin' out of this two-star town
    I got the green light
    I got a little fight
I'm gonna turn this thing around
    Can you read my mind?
    Can you read my mind?
The good old days, the honest man
The restless heart, the Promised Land
A subtle kiss that no one sees
A broken wrist and a big trapeze
Oh well I don't mind, if you don't mind
'Cause I don't shine if you don't shine
Before you go, can you read my mind?
It's funny how you just break down
    Waiting on some sign
I pull up to the front of your driveway
    With magic soaking my spine
    Can you read my mind?
    Can you read my mind?
The teenage queen, the loaded gun
The drop dead dream, the Chosen One
A southern drawl, the world unseen
A city wall and a trampoline
Oh well I don't mind if you don't mind
'Cause I don't shine if you don't shine
    Before you jump,
    Tell me what you find..
    When you read my mind
Slipping in my faith until I fall
    You never returned that call
Woman, open the door, don't let it sting
I wanna breathe that fire again
She said I don't mind if you don't mind
'Cause I don't shine if you don't shine
    Put your back on me
    Put your back on me
    Put your back on me
The stars are blazing like rebel diamonds, cut out of the sun
    Can you read my mind

+cheesecake134 That's because most of people today listen to shitty 1D and JB etc. This is beautiful music with talented singers and lyrics that never fail to make me smile ^.^

+Sebastian X Ciel (Elise Miskelly) True, true. But even for a Killers song this is a bit underrated. Most people only know Mr. Brightside, When You Were Young, and Somebody Told Me. These aren't bad songs, but i wish the Killers had a broader audience.

    • @fenrirthevargr7212

Vault 111 Everyone always listens to the 'top charts' though and most stuff like this band is lost in the confusion of celebrities and what happens in their lives. It's quite sad :(

    • @funwillfunwill
      @funwillfunwill 8 років тому +5

Sebastian X Ciel Very true. Most people know a couple Killers songs though, because pop radio still plays their songs occasionally (at least in my town.) But most people tend to think the only music being produced is that top 40 garbage. Or with the celebrities thing: Most people don't even care about Muse and their songs, but everyone knows Matthew Bellamy because he's a famous celebrity. Or even more: Kanye West, a despicable person to say in the least, is really only known for all his stupid statements and not his "music."

    • @fenrirthevargr7212
      @fenrirthevargr7212 8 років тому +2

Vault 111 I love Muse :) And it just really irritates me when people shun you for loving music that they haven't even heard of. I've heard 1D songs and Justin Bieber etc ( because of hearing people play it almost every fucking day and you can't go anywhere without hearing about something to do with them ), and yeah, I admit that I don't like it and I find it to be a lack of talent, and I can say that because I have heard it.
But then for others to hear a name of a band, ( for example ) Three Days Grace, and to have not even heard any of their songs and then try and say it's shit? Just rude and immature.

The Killers are a true band. They don't make mainstream music or try to impress the tabloids... They're just themselves and speak and perform what's inside them. Brandon Flowers is a poet and i feel lucky to have him in our day and age.

I rate this as the best Killers song full stop, and one of the most brilliant songs of the last decade - so good I REWROTE it without realising one day when I was messing about on guitar. I thought "I like that", and I was quite pleased with myself until I realised I'd just unconsciously copied this tune(there's few more disappointing feelings than writing something you're proud of only to realise you've nicked it!).
My spine lit up when the synth came in at the start. Gorgeous.

Was the summer of '07 I believe. My grandfather used to have a beautiful house along the shore of Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper peninsula in a small town called Munising that our family would always spend about a month at every summer. A couple months prior I got the Sam's Town CD from a Barnes and Noble and it became my new musical obsession upon first listen. My parents had just bought me an iPod for Christmas the previous year and I kept nagging my mom to help me burn my CDs onto the iPod before we left for my grandfather's place, which she eventually did. Listened to the album on repeat on the drive up there with my ear buds plugged in to the iPod and all during that particular visit that year, life was good.
Now everytime I listen to Sam's Town and this song in particular, memories of that summer just come flooding back like a tidal wave.

Was in my car with my boyfriend the other day we had the windows down as it was a nice pleasant sunset in California that day. We were driving down this long stretch of highway that connects my suburban area to the more metropolitan area. I for some reason decided to turn the radio on (instead of our usual spotify playlist) when this song came on, we havent heard this song since we were kids!! Needless to say nostalgia hit us like a ton of bricks and I was trying to remember why I stopped listening to rock when I had LOVED it so much as a kid. I could feel the wind picking up as my bf pushed the throttle and new if I didnt put the windows up soon my hair would be messed up by the time we got to dinner, but it was worth it as we sang along to the radio:
    _I don't mind if you don't mind,_
_'Cause I dont shine if you dont shine.._
    *It was something magical.*
I think Sam's Town is one of those albums that only gets better with age.
