You never know some stock photography buyers might be looking exactly for ugly photos for their blog or website where they write about photography mistakes to avoid.
I love this video because it reinforces exactly my personal opinion. Photography is completely subjective. What one person likes, the next person doesn't like at all. And that's exactly why I keep selling stock photos even though I'm the worst photographer on the planet! 😂😂😂
You said "I keep selling stock photos even though I'm the worst photographer on the planet!" If that is so, I must be the greatest photographer of all time.
Very funny! I suppose your sales on those photos happened a while ago, before there was much more competition. I hope you took photos of this beautiful snowy landscape.
Some sales happened a couple of weeks ago which is what gave me the Idea for the video. Most of these have been online since 2010, at that time people said stock was worthless because it was saturated, I'm glad I didn't listen, buyers are always looking for new content and sometimes old content 😅. And. Sadly I didnt get a chnace, it took longer to film than what I had anticipated and then snow removal of roofs and walkways took priority, as it is my studio collapsed under the snow, and I have to dig it later today 😅
@@wollertz Well, it can't be as bad as here in Quebec City, where we had 33 cm (13 inches) of snow Wednesday, and today we're expecting a total of 40 cm (15 inches) more. Talk about shovelling! Sorry for your studio though.
thank you Charles! i learn a lot with your vidéo... not only about stock photography, but also by the way you are in front of the camera... teach me some tricks...
"I've been struggling with some of my oldest images all morning, so the timing of this video is perfect. I know I'm dating myself, but many of my early photos were originally slides that were scanned as TIFFs. Unfortunately, I no longer have the original slides, and whether it was due to my lack of technical skills or poor scans, these photos have lots of issues. However, I never threw them away because they have interesting subjects and good compositions. While working on them in Photoshop, I kept wondering why I was wasting my time. But to your point, I'm learning new Photoshop skills, and if I can be a little more forgiving, I may submit some of them. Thanks for another great video!
That’s great! The whole point with photography is to preserve time and space for others to enjoy!! I bet you have amazing images! And exactly, use them as practice to develop skills and improve on those skills! It could be that you get paid for learning 😁 Thanks for the comment!
Thanks Hoods are great for protecting the lens, I keep bumping mine into things 😁 They help with glare but are not essential, you can use your hand to block the sun 🤷♂️
Old photos are good if they are technically good photos, by that I mean focus, composition, clarity, the rest is up to the reviewer and buyer. Best of luck!
C, how did those 'substandard' photos get accepted, at all, by the stock photography sites, if their standards are so high? Well done on your videos, they are superb.
Like you I have uploaded a number of images, that weren't perfect in my eyes, yet passed QC and some sell and others don't or perhaps more correctly haven't sold yet.
Trying hard to find inspiration but again i cant afford all the equipment so yea ... uploading to shuter stock no sales so yea feeling like giving up . Love the videos . Any tips wud highly appreciate
Its numbers, I'll talk more about it in the future but I have 20000 pictures that have never sold and probably never will. Find things where your current gear works best and concentrate on that, in my previous video I made a list of Ideas, 20 ideas a month, apply the ones where your gear will excel and avoid the ones where it doesn't
Just like UA-cam. I've uploaded videos I thought weren't great yet they perform amazing. Beautiful location! I bet you'll get some amazing pictures out there. Cheers!
Thanks Paul! 100% stock is very much like UA-cam, the only difference is the niche thing, don’t niche for stock, the rest is up to the algorithm 😅 I gotta go hike and get pics but I keep having to shovel snow 😂
what stats? the sales numbers? i have no reason to lie, i'm not selling anything. Some licenses sell for a lot more money and i did feature some of the higher ones, its not all 🤷♂️
@@wollertz I know many many contributors and I have a lot of experience in the field and I know for a fact that the average sale is no more than 30 cents. And you are stating 10x more for every image, even the worst that you've shown in this video. That's what I don't believe And yes, you are selling views. If it's true, congrats, the algorithm somehow has chosen your content.
It is 100% true, I will not share false information in this channel. My average price per download across the board is $0.75 since 2010 with 30k photos. Some sell for $0.04 cents and $0.10 but on some agencies it is $.99 $3.25 and occasionally the random photo sell for $200, $75 or the more common $28 I’m not selling views, I want views but the thumbnail is the sales pitch I mention no numbers there for a reason 🤷♂️
Another great video. Some of those failed photos, look like my best. That's why I'm here, to learn.
Thank you Greg, I these are the best of the worst 😅, the other ones haven't sold and probably never will, but this gave me hope 😁

🤣 The photos cant be that bad, they got accepted 😁, that means something was good from a technical point, keep improving! 😁

I guess I have a lot to learn. Some of the photos you said were bad, I really liked.
Thank you! I really liked them too 😅.
Its just the technical aspects or lighting and composition that could have been better 🤷♂️
Awesome, in outdoor, indoor photography lens hood is buying worth it ?
Thanks

The quality of the photos was fine, focused, sharp, just bad in other ways. And sometimes a few photos pass the inspection even when terrible 😅
Like you I have uploaded a number of images, that weren't perfect in my eyes, yet passed QC and some sell and others don't or perhaps more correctly haven't sold yet.
