Weed Eater BOAT MOTOR

  • I cast a propeller and threw It on a stand up Paddle Board with a 28cc weed whacker.
It worked out pretty good, sure is easier than paddling(but just about as slow!) The clutch kept slipping so I'll likely cut groves in the bell or loosen the springs so it can still start but won't really slip once the shoes fly.
The prop bolted right on where the string-dispensing thing fell off and all I needed was a couple washers to get it nice and tight. I bent the shaft by heating it up with a harbor freight torch and bending it around a 55 gallon drum. The shaft was a bendy square one so it works fine with that bend radius. The outriggers were kind of unnecessary I just didn't want the engine winding up in the water! They were a buoy I cut in half and glued to a wood frame thing that straps onto the board. I also made a small block at the back the motor can push on. The turn radius sucks because the skegs are still on the bottom.

That's about it, this thing was pretty fun!

You just need to do the safer stuff first, once they see you are responsible enough you can move up from there. I started with r/c cars and planes

Common sense to have a life jacket! Always especially when you are alone. Life jackets are not "uncool". I think we're up to 4 water related deaths in ct.

If you read this, would it be possible for you to make a video on making a small engine for a boat, like an outboard?

Propeller is way too big for that motor hahah cut the ends off and try again. if you get rid of the clutch it will just stall as soon as you put it into the water

Yea I was going to make the clutch a bit more grippy by heating the springs or something. It got a lot of use (slightly modified with a sawblade) so the boots don't really have much friction, or not enough I guess. The prop does look massive but who really cares if it bogs while getting up to speed. The engine still bogs horribly with no load at all! The carb pump is very messed up but I just don't want to fix it again, it works.
I Was going to make a safety cage for it too but I'm not really going to use the thing much, just wanted to try it out :)

That's way too much prop on that engine ! You gonna fried that engine soon with poor result ! ...... 2 blade prop ....no more than 6"inches DIAMETER prop ......keep the prop pitch no more than 8 ..... Also make sure your prop is perfectly balance !
