Theres also a lot of religious lore around angels being so divine and alien that their forms will blind you upon view, touching them will burn you to ash, and to hear them speak will drive you mad. Sounds like eldritch horror right? Ironically eldritch horror takes a lot of inspiration from old religious views of divinity and upper planes of existence, and just gives it a dark twist.
Denji's quick switch from "being depressed over Reze to being hyped bc of Makima" isn't pretence on Denji's part. It's just one of countless things that portray Denji's deep issues. First of all, he's _really_ horny. Like he _really_ wants to be with girls and have lots of sex (lol). But he's also extremely emotionally underdeveloped and has very low self-worth. That makes him overvalue basically every relationship with any remotely attractive girl that pays him attention and why he's so easy to take advantage of.
