I have watched sooo many videos on this and I'm not even finished with this video but I can say in all honesty that this is by far the best and most informative one I have watched. I finally feel like I know enuf to b able to dive in, do this, and come out with cute altered notebook. Thank u
I love this video. It shows the real struggle in altering comp books. I find it easier to line the 12x12 with the binder and leave overlap on top, bottom, and right sides. This allows me to cut it exact to the comp book. I’m always trimming anyhow, loL! The scrap that gets cut off is perfect to make pockets. Your comp book are very pretty 😊
I love these. Thank you for sharing. I have one for my office. A tip that I do is make my paper a bit larger. Glue it down and then trim, because as you said the covers are wonky.
This is SO nice! So many "junk" journal makers load it up so full and go all the way to the inside of the page. I watched MayMay and she said just what you said...DON'T DO IT! You're right. I don't want to make books that don't close well. If it's a gift, the recipient can add the bulk if they want to; but, for me...I don't want to add a bunch of "junk" to make it bulky. Each to their own; but, I love the way you do it. :)
As u said u can leave the tape on on the bottom while working with the top, another way that makes using tape easier is to on the tape only pull half of the backing off and let the bit u pulled off just hang then gently put the side down that the backing is off but don't press down then get it aligned, press it down and reach under and pull the rest of the backing off. I make mini albums from scratch and Shellie Geigle has teaching videos on her channel and that's how she teaches beginners to do it until they r more confident in their abilities.
Hi 👋 Paula! I just subscribed and loving your work already 😊. After reading a few entries I’m not the only one. I’m very happy I’ve found you. I’m new to this craft. I enjoy working with paper too 😃
Wouldn't it be easier to cut your paper a little bigger than you actually need and then trim it to fit. Glue or tape the paper on then open your book with the inside facing up and trim excess paper off around the edges with an exacto knife
To get the edges of the covers even after trimming, I like to use one of those thick nail files and rub onver the edges. It melds the two surfaces together. Then, I ink the edges. I works well.
And for rounding the corners, instead of trying to cut around the corner use the corner chomper and cut the front and back covers then u can use the same one to round the corners on the cardstock and boom they match.
These are super cute. I love your choice of paper. I’ve been making an attempt at covering a composition book with paper and it does seem that the composition book is not square.
I tape my cover paper on a little bigger than the cover or back and use exacto knife to cut excess off. That way i can get as close as possible to the book cover.
Homemade items certainly can be tricky! Plus taping it while you’re working is challenging! Don’t beat yourself up too much, you are only human, and what else can you be?
I have enjoyed your video...my Grandma said, "nut behind the wheel." I've made probably 25 of these, but I do wrap-a-round method, so the inconsistent sizes of the composition books isn't as noticeable.
If you lack just a little bit between your paper and the black spine of the book couldn't you use a black sharpie to fill the gap in either before glueing your paper down or even carefully after glueing the paper down? I have also seen where someone lightly sanded their book so the paper would glue down better. Gives it a little bit of roughness and gets rid of it being so slick so the paper stays glued better.
I really enjoy your videos about altering composition books. I use my embellished composition books as art journal / thumbnail sketch / scratch books. I use multi-media -- wet & dry in my books -- depending on how I feel that day and what art & images I've been exposed to / inspired by recently. I prepare the composition sheets randomly for the days I express myself for play in wet media. That prep includes using gloss or matte medium, gesso, -- any medium that strengthens the pages allowing me to express myself in the future. Karen Campbell, and others have some great videos on You Tube about the benefits of this daily art expression exercise. For me the practice with various methods and colors, media and medium is helping me to learn to draw and how to be a disciplined student (draw & paint based on thumbnail sketches and grids, etc. Ft) -- it's where I incorporate new information about composition, color theory, science of acrylic pouring ... It's natural, fun and follows the inspiration of teachers and mentor sources I connect with online and in print.
TY Darice, I love making them. They are useful for so many different things. I need to add them to my video list for the future. Art journaling is a great idea!
This is a really cute project I attempted this last year and failed. I'm looking forward to getting some really good tips from you because your finished one looks awesome. That is so sad about your family getting flooded out I will put them in my prayers. Tyfs Paula
1/2" Scor-Tape. You can get it online at most scrapbooking stores. (scrapbook.com) It is a double sided adhesive. I also used Fabri-Tac Adhesive. Get at hobby lobby, etc.
I go around all the edges of my composition book with a black permanent marker. Then if the paper doesn't match up exactly....it really doesn't even show.
I love how these composition notebooks come out with all the different papers can you share what paper design you used is this stamperia or is this scrapping paper that's thinner?
What if i dont have a bone folder?? Cause i dont own one of those tbh i will one day but not now! Im sorry dont hate me for this im gonna make my own one of these one day like the tour and your book u did btw! What lind if double sided tape u using is it from dollar tree??Have a nice day and stay safe!😍😎😷😷
You can use the handle of your scissors, or you can use a ruler or the dull side of a bread and butter knife. Really anything that is flat, not too sharp but stiff so it will press onto the fold that you are trying to get a nice crisp fold.
I love decorating composition note books. I love giving them as gifts. I love all you do.
I absolutely LOVE that peach and rose gold paper. I wish I could find that!
I feel this way with a lot of the older lines.
I love these pretty composition books decorate it up. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed it!!!
I'm loving the peach flower design look, beautiful now I want to finally try to make myself one. Thanks for the share :).

Great tip! TY
I do the same. Faster and easier! Once I figured this out, I’ve had more fun doing these, loL!
It’s looking so so pretty 😍
Beautiful books!! I too, love to use altered composition books; there are just so many possibilities. TFS Elizabeth

I love the paper you used in your first book.
TY! I love it too.

Thank you! Welcome! Paper is my fave!
I too struggle with getting my paper down straight! Your composition books are beautiful!!!
I never thought to ink the edges. I made my first composition book today and used an emery board to clean up the edges. Next time…I’ll try ink 😮
i like the tab part. doesn't look bulky... will start on this tomorrow. thank you
Beautiful Books and you crack me up! 😊
TY Suzanne! I hear that alot.
This is so much fun! Thanks Paula!!
you are welcome!

Rhats what I do, cut the paper just a kittle larger.
To get the edges of the covers even after trimming, I like to use one of those thick nail files and rub onver the edges. It melds the two surfaces together. Then, I ink the edges. I works well.
Good idea! TY!
Love it, so beautiful ❤️

I also put the tape on the book not the paper. Just my way of doing it.

Glue the paper bigger open then use a straight edge to trim around
You do very nice work
Thank you for sharing! Nice book!

TY!
😂I do mine with the double tape and love. I have not had any problems.
Use a old gift card to smooth out your page after gluing it down on your paper, it will spread out the glue underneath and leaves no lumps
Can you share the name of this paper pack and where you got it? It’s DELICIOUS 😋
It was lovely paper. I do not have this paper any longer. Sorry
What type of glue are you using?

TY! and welcome!
You don’t need to measure
just stick the paper on the cover,
and then trim away the excess
with a razor knife
hi, I know this is an old video, but I really enjoyed it! What is the name of that little thingy you used to make the flower banner sticky? thank you!
UNO glue stick. I get it on Amazon.
Where did you buy the double tape?
scrapbook.com
What are the names for these paper?
Hi, where did you buy your punches? Thank you
michaels or hobby lobby

I file the edges
A cup of white vinegar in a load of laundry will help remove all mold spores, if she is still worried. ❤
TY!
I’m not board at all!
Please don't move your hands so much. Just show and tell as you go. Thank you.
I agree.
Do people really need a ‘tutorial’ on how to cover a note book?? Good grief!
I guess you do not. That’s great! maybe, everyone is not as crafty as you.
Your hand movements are Very distracting.
Don't watch this video then.
I will not
You need to quit talking about things that don’t affect us. You talk tooooo much.
That’s kinda rude
