This skirnish show beautifully how flavourfull Starcraft can be. Zerg reproduce so much quicker and produce a lot of troops, meanwhile Protoss got tricks and attacks the weak point of enemy army. Both players were equally matched and one mistake from either of them was gonna end the melee.
You can 100% tell that Flash and Rain are talking about Protoss together. The last time I saw someone use their corsairs like this was Flash playing off-race vs Soulkey and he bodied him in pretty much the same fashion. Ever since I saw that game I have wondered why Protoss don't harass so heavily like that and BAM Rain comes in with this play.
Calm and Rain are in that tier of “could just randomly make bo4 / finals in asl” at any given time, a beautiful matchup between two of the best to ever do it.

StarCraft is such a cool game. Overlords allow the Zerg to start the game with detection, but they are also the source of their supply - losing them in battle can be devastating. It's amazing what Blizzard pulled off in 1998 - glad this game is still alive and kicking!
every single time a protoss goes 2gate corsair i think, "look at all that energy on those sairs.. that's so many disruption webs. i wonder...." It would cost 500/400 to get the beacon and research. it seems totally plausible that it could be worth it, especially if you've got a group of 8-12 sairs already. it would make the zerg have to deal with it carefully, and that seems worthwhile to me. it'd be a gigantic help in holding off a hydra bust for *MINUTES*, it'd make diving on overlords way easier, it'd help in sniping 4th bases, it'd make lurker contains a bit softer.. it'd take 15 seconds of utility away from dark swarm.. and most importantly, it's a really cool looking spell that's fun to watch. it just sounds so good to me. i wonder if it has been tried lately?

I wonder how it would look with web. Like what could zerg even do at that point? Just flying in, throwing down 8 webs, skirting around, sniping the overlords. Not to mention that web would allow dt's to close to gap even if there was detection. Also just web + storm against hydras in general. Hard to execute for sure. But OP if you could pull it off.
Requires fleet beacon and the D-web upgrade..that's a lot of resources in a game where you're already on a knife's edge. HTs with storm are far more important but maybe if the game dragged on longer or the zerg didn't try the hydra bust that would be a good choice.
I can't belive you didn't see the kill count on those corsair at the end of the game. You just group selected them over and over again and didn't click on a single sair not even once. Now I gotta go and dl the replay, thanks Arty.
Very brainy play from Rain. It reminds of some of the fundamentals day9 talked about in his "lets learn starcraft" series. The zerg effectively concedes the air game hoping to bowl over the protoss with a ground army with this mass hydra strategy but if they can't secure the kill there is room for counterplay from the protoss by doing hit and runs on the overlords. Hydras are great against corsairs but the problem is catching them that's why the air arms race meta is a thing because when a protoss has tight control like we see from rain they can keep enough corsairs up that a scourge switch is futile. I do wonder if calm could have survived if he pulled back but both players had such aggressive postures all game it's hard to imagine this going long. Rain felt pressured to attack because his corsairs become useless if he lets Calm recover and build air and Calm seemed to want to force a fight to kill the corsairs or kill rain outright. Great game.
When it was that many corsairs with +1 I don't think he could've meaningfully managed them better. For me it was massive stubborness of not placing some spores. I'd go as far as saying he should've gotten +1 air armor too. And I was thinking of those in the middle of the game, before seeing the OL slaughter fest.

Feels like Calm was titled as hell after first time he failed to kill Rain. Couldve made a spore for safety.
