    The squirells do it on my deck. They stare directly into my kitchen window as the chill out. They love it on the deck because it's elevated on a second story and my deck is shaded by two huge chestnuts trees that serve as habitat for lots of things.

    This is a very clever piece of sci com. Lure people in with cute pictures of bulldog butts and the adorable viral term “splooting” then use that premise to teach them about thermoregulation. The science was put in simple, understandable terms. Very well done 👍🏻. The best sci com is fun and informative and easy to follow, this nails all three.

    Ah yes. I often noticed cormorants doing that as they’re drying off their feathers and what’s interesting about the thorny devil is because of those openings in their skin, whenever they find a puddle, they placed their feet in the water and let the skin absorbed it like a sponge and from there, the water reaches up to their mouths. Very peculiar.

    • @michaelmayhem350
      @michaelmayhem350 Місяць тому

      @@Based_Gigachad_001 I can't remember the full name as I read about it quite awhile ago but it's part of the Aspidoscelis family/group. I just remembered it because sharks will have baby's of they can't find a mate but their unfertilized eggs come out as clones of the mother but these lizards are shuffling chromosomes in order to avoid having clone children.

    • @roecocoa
      @roecocoa Місяць тому +1

      @@Based_Gigachad_001 The most famous one is the New Mexico whiptail, Aspidoscelis neomexicanus, which is a hybrid between A. inornatus and A. tigris (little striped whiptail and western whiptail). A. inornatus and A. tigris cannot produce viable males together, only females. Since the offspring of A. tigris and A. inornatus were not produced by parthenogenesis, those A. neomexicanus are not clones. But A. neomexicanus lays unfertilized eggs, and the lizards that hatch from those eggs are clones of the mother.

    Now hang on a minute, birds do not "pee" technically, so their waste is a mix of poo and pee (the white-ish sludge) and I guess that gives them a leg up in this cooling-down method... We would need a bad case of the runs to match it I would guess... and that just sounds like a really bad time 😅

    That old bee video was not completely accurate. In the winter, they do use their wing muscles to generate heat, but they will generally dislocate their wings in order to do so.
    In the coldest days, they entire colony will surround the queen in a giant bee ball in order to help keep her warm.
    This bee ball formation is so effective, some bee species have learned to use it as a defense mechanism against hornets. They will encase the raider and cook it alive, sacrificing themselves to protect the hive.
