    If your interested in O gauge you should know that there is traditional size and O scale which is a full 1:48 scale dimensions. I heard you talk about some O gauge trains looking funny. But the modern Lionel, Mth, Atlas, k-line, ect. make higher end 3-rail that is properly scaled. (ya, its more expensive) ...ask me how I know. lol

      Not interested at all, but I appreciate you weighing in! My father had a few real-scale pieces of rolling stock and they were mammoth, but they didn’t appear goofy/bastardized. All of his O stuff has been moved on and partially help find what you see on my channel!

    Hi - I’m a member of the Miami Valley Modular Railway. To answer a couple questions… 1). set-up takes about 2 to 3 hours, which is from when the modules are rolled off the trailers to when the first train will run. Setting up the trains takes several more hours. 2) the layout only operates at shows, and “lives” in the trailers in-between experiencing all the joys of Ohio seasonal weather. 3) We had made several advancements recently in gapping power districts to decrease interference and in track cleaning disciplines. Most stoppages are created when another train in your power district derails and shorts (usually equipment related, not layout caused).
    Hope this answers some of your questions, and we appreciate being featured in your video.

      Oh, wow! Thank you so much for checking in and answering some of the questions i posed. I always enjoy seeing your layout and I’m glad to hear it’s still being worked on and improved! Take care-I’ll be seeing you around!

      Thank you so very much for your support! I hope it continues to grow too (it'd be nice if UA-cam want suppressing the channel somewhat, but it'll overcome, hopefully)

    I run 2 gauges, Ho and N, I diod go to a local show and there was sonly one table selling older European HO, one table had marklin Z and it was microscopic, so was the table selling micro trains Z. The seller that had Marklin Z also had a very old Fleischmann Die cast SBB CFF-FFS loco but it was overpriced, it was the heaviest HO locomotive I have ever held!

    Curious? You a real Dr? I did enjoy this trip, and always enjoy your content. I hope the retailers were missing, simply because of the shortages we have, and they do NOT last Long.
    Thanks for sharing

      Well, I'm not a "doctor" (as that's a professional title for those in the medical professions) but i am a retired history professor who does hold an earned PhD. I hope things come back as, in the past, that show really inspired me a lot! Thanks for commenting and watching! Be sure to get your dollar next year at the show ;)

    I've always found better deals for Athearn Bluebox kits at train shows than eBay, so I'm stoked to go to my local show. Thanks for wetting my appetite until February! Also, don't worry about your layout. Mine's been on the Plywood Plains for almost 10 years now.

    • @DoctorHobby
      @DoctorHobby  2 роки тому

      Yeah.. well, the deals were there and things were definitely priced better than they would be on eBay, but this year's show was just a step down in selection from what I've seen in previous years. I hope they can get more vendors to come back soon.

    I wonder if COVID shut a lot of the smaller sellers down or if it weakened them enough so that if they didn't recover last year they weren't going to recover at all.

    • @DoctorHobby
      @DoctorHobby  2 роки тому

      Probably so. I wonder if a lot of sellers used the first show after COVID to get rid of their remaining stock and call it a career... not sure..

    My thoughts on the various scales
    HO, best bet for bargains, bang for buck, space, size to work on, and electrical can used with other scales
    O , I like to use the b-word with this , electrical different from all the rest (although reverse loops are very easy), but the corny looks of the cheap gear. Plus used can be tricky due to evilbay influence on price
    N , for long runs great, to work on, yikes, get magnascope
    G cheap not to easy, you could get bachmann for the cars but NOT the locos (lots of issues)
    S track and running gear not so common, but great news, matchbox and hot wheel cars can be used
    Now one thing to look at which combines two scale good side in ON30. O scale size locos running on HO gauge track. It has been gaining popularity because of that. It's most interesting is the disney like look and there are ton of theme layouts out there

    Covid did allot of damage to the train show scene, although not as much as the housing crash of 2007 (year blue box died)
    I go to great midwest train show and before covid it was 5 buildings, now it is 3.
    One local show which was only a few years old, stopped. Another switch locations.
    I have talked to a buddy that the great train show is more commercial than a bargin paradise. So no surprise it was off compared to other one you went to

      Yeah.. it was.. well.. probably the most disappointed I've been at a train show in a while.. hopefully it'll come back around in the future..

    Funny! Unfortunately from what I can gather about the us market. It's the same dang diesels and steamers over and over again. On the whole I'd say I watch this channel the most, then cortapassi whenever he puts out a review.

    • @DoctorHobby
      @DoctorHobby  2 роки тому

      You aren't wrong--Americans don't have as much variety in their trains and the market reflects that. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy an EMD as much as the next guy, but there are so many cool things to see in other parts of the world!
