There is one more option that is often missed. If a pint is too much and half pint is not quite enough, they also make 3/4 pint (12 oz) jars, often referred to as jelly jars and are also canned at the pint time.
@@kehlarr5525 I picked up 200+ pint, quart, half gallon jars from an older fellow cleaning out his garage after his wife passed. He filled up the bed of my Tacoma with canning jars. I love those little squatty jars for canning chicken. That is the size I use to make emergency chicken for the cats or just a serving for me. So glad you made this video, it is going to help a lot of folks see they have options for their protein canning. Thank you, Leisa.
This inspired me to can tiny jars of chicken and keep them aside for making individual Ramen noodles meals! Some dehydrated vegetable soup mix, dried onions, garlic powder, ginger powder, more garlic powder, black pepper, some sliced mushrooms, some chicken broth, boil it and add a package of Ramen noodles, top with a boiled egg and some green onions, maybe spinach or kale bites. BOOM!
I did so many of those half pint jars for my daughter when she went off to collage. Her meal plan didn’t cover weekends so I sent her with a ton of meals in jars. She would come home once a month and bring me her empty ones and shop for what she wanted to take with her that month out of the pantry lol. She finally started hiding them. All her friends would steal them and she would get empty jars back 😂. I did chicken, Turkey, beef, pork and veggies. Some seasoned and some plain. She loved them
Loved watching the snow from inside! 😂 I often can in the squatty 1/2 pint jars, even vegetables as I live alone. Thank you for the video Leisa. Blue is your color 🙂
This is such a great idea - love. I have been doing something very similar when it comes to preserving my food. Not everyone wants the same thing and because of dietary restrictions you have to think "is is worth canning a pint or freezing some 9x11 lasagna". I am finding that there is way less food waste and its more economical to store certain things in a "signal person serving". I would rather have a extra jar/container to clean than food waste and the added benefit of no complaints when the food hits the table is a bonus. 🥂
I never thought about canning single servings, but I am very thankful for this video. Thank you for always sharing your knowledge about canning with all of us. Have a blessed day.
This is a great idea! I can the pint jars for my daughter's family, but half pints would be good for me. I am by myself once again. Sometimes I like the chicken pieces in a salad. Thanks Leisa.
I am the only one in my family who must eat gluten free. I love the idea of having single serving foods available so that when everyone else is eating things I can’t, I have choices too that won’t result in a lot of separate prep time or waste.
I'm alone now and I love the idea of making single servings. How nice will that be to just pull a single serving off the shelf. :) thank you again for another great informative time. :)
I tend to can in pints most often, but I can definitely see the benefit of having these smaller sizes in my pantry as well. Thank you Leisa for the great idea!
I can 75% of meat and meals in half pints...20% in pints and 5% in quarter pints. Depending on the meal and sides, I don't have food waste or many leftovers. I live alone with my black lab, and she enjoys everything I dont finish. I also can beef and chicken livers in quarter pints as an addition to her dry food.

Lol, I ran out of dog food in a snow storm one time, so I made my dogs some freezer burned meat and rice for a couple days in my pressure cooker. They all are up in here when I use it.
Great idea to have smaller servings on the shelf. Recently, I started canning chicken and ground beef in the 24oz/1.5 pint jars using the time for quart jars. A quart of meat is too much and a pint not quite enough for us.
Hi Leisa,. Thanks for letting us know about the sale at For jars. Took advantage right away. I actually learned how to can ugly chicken from you. I find the precooked chicken a little moister texture. Between the raw packed and precooked, I have 75 pints in my pantry. Thanks again for being a great teacher ❤
I love those wide mouth jars but they're so hard for me to get where I live. It's the perfect size for a single serving! Never thought to put meat in them, what a great idea! I usually just use them for jelly. I'm loving my forjars!
Excellently done. I've been using the 8 ounce size jars for meat for years. It's perfect for single serving sizes of a sandwich or a rice or noodle bowl.
I canned 39 half pint jars a few years ago. I double stacked my Presto, 13 jars on each level. And canned a single layer of 13 jars in my Mirro. I love having ugly chicken in a variety of jar sizes, for different meal options. I packed my jars a little tighter than you did, and they worked fine. Thanks for the video.
I have been doing this for years to take to work or for my kid in college. It is a great size. Takes a little more work with more jars but it’s worth it. 😊
Thanks for the idea my husband hates chicken so I would be the only one eating it. You are such a blessing to those who learn from you. Thank you again
Thank you so much for this video, I’m the only one that eats any of my canned foods that I can because my husband just refuses to eat anything but store bought stuff and that’s ok for him. I like knowing what’s in my food and I think that homemade food is way better than store bought so, it just makes more for me LOL 😂 My dog and cats are going to hate me too when I get some half pints and start canning my little single serving batches but, knowing me, I’ll get one out for them and divide it 3 ways for my babies ❣️🤗❣️
This is my favorite size for canning ugly chicken! I keep at least 1 jar in my office in case I forget to bring my lunch. I have also canned roast & pork in them. Thanks for letting us know about the sale, just ordered more lids from Forjars!
I read all the comments and was sort of thrown by the amount of meat that we eat today. I am 80 and the daughter of depression people. My mom could take a small can of tuna and feed 20. I have read (do not know if true unless you have kidney failure) that Americans eat way too much protein. I was thinking of baby food - once past the banana and applesauce stage - smaller pieces. That would make enough chicken salad for days with a hard boiled egg too. If chicken caesar, it would serve more. And, for supper, that much meat could easily make a great stir fry or any kind of small casserole dish for one or two. Leisa, you are catching a lot of population. When I retired, stats showed that 51% of all Americans live alone - not with a room mate or partner or other family member - ALONE. Don't forget your alone neighbors (of any age) during these difficult times. Please Lots of love to go around and Leisa's canned foods have lots of love in them. See how she lights up when canning. And, if you have ever seen Phils face when he tries her latest dish, you can she the love.
I'm sorry , I don't usually comment more than once on a video but I have to say watching your videos on pressuring canning has given me the uuummppfff to break out my all american 921. It was a gift from a bestie about 4 years ago. I was scared of it. I can hot water bath all day long but...... Well, I thought go big or go home. On Wednesday I canned 6 qts of ugly chicken. Yesterday I canned 7 qts of legs and thighs and 7 pints of chicken breasts. Today I canned 9 pints of unseasoned ground beef and next week I'll can 10 lbs of taco meat. Tomorrow I'm planning to can some hot pork sausage I found in my deep freeze. Thank you so very much!

Leisa, what a wonderful demonstration of using chicken in the half pints. I’m going to do this for my sons who need good food at work for lunch! The snow looked so pretty! You and Phil have a great weekend.
I love my half pint jars. Open a pork, chicken or beef, add some bbq sauce and make great sandwiches. I never buy processed sandwich meat anymore. Also, chicken salad sandwiches for two people. I use my half pint jars for leftovers constantly. Love that I can see what is in the jar and the jars don’t stain like plastic containers.
I am single. I seldom put anything up in quart jars. Last week Chicken was on sale for 77 cents/#. I bought 20 pounds and canned it yesterday. I love the wide mouthed 1/2 pint jars.

I canned pork in half pints. Perfect for barbecue sandwiches, just add barbecue sauce, and it is so good! I can some in pints for when the grands are here!
Love this! Years ago when I had 4 kids at home (2 of them boys) I had to do everything in quarts, then when it was just me and my husband, I downgraded to mostly pints. When my husband passed almost 4 years ago, I completely stopped canning. I got back into it last summer, and found pints were too big for just me. I was wondering how you were going to keep the water level from going over the jars and thought well, duh, she stacked them. So smart! Great idea for serving size .
Really like the idea of the single serve. It's myself and my husband only and like you sometimes he wants beef and I want chicken so I do beef. Now I will get some of those 8 OUNCE jars and cann chicken beef and pork in single serve jars. Wonderful thank you 🙏❤️🙏
I canned some half pint jars, and it works out great for a 2 person meal, like sandwiches or ckn salad. PLUS, Jenni Gough at Jenni's Scratch Made Kitchen has a great canning video for Chicken Salad(justaddmayo), that is awesome.
Ok, my favorite part of the video is the blowing snow out the window! We didn't get even a half an inch this winter so I was really bummed. I tend to weigh as I go & cut smaller pieces to fit as much as I can in a jar. I still have knife envy. If I got another knife, my hubby would flip. Maybe I'll ask it for my birthday (if I can wait till August, lol). Many Blessings from Deborah in West Virginia! PS - I showed him the video part where you were using your knife (I'm guessing the 6") & he figured ot would cost $200. I showed him the knife on your Amazon link & he said he was sure I could scrape up that much. I said I'd roll our pennies for that! I think I'm going to be getting a new knife! I'll just have to consider dumping some that I don't use (I have a drawer full of knives bc I love good knives!) You rock Leisa!
Happy spring. Snowing down here in the lower part too. My experiments go in half pints. Sauces, ketchup, whatever. That's an idea for a one person soup. Some noodles and broth and the chicken makes soup.
This is perfect. I have a bunch of little jars I have only been able to use for vacuum sealing so I’ll set them aside for this it’s perfect size for us. I now have to find purpose for my 4 oz jars. We really don’t eat jams or jellies much so I am trying to find ideas for those as I prepare myself to actually give canning a go this time (time issue not scared of it). I have my pints and quarts ready for garden season (not for jars lids yet but I’ll get there). Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful day!

Wonderful thank you 🙏❤️🙏
Thank You Leisa for doing this video.... I'm going to be doing this for my daughter for her to take to work for her lunch 😊🙏 Kendra
Loved this idea. Like you, there's only two of us and I can see how doing this could be really helpful. Thanks for sharing!
I just saw this video of your and I am so grateful! We are a household of two and I struggle with getting the right jar size at times.
Great to share this with everyone!
I canned some half pint jars, and it works out great for a 2 person meal, like sandwiches or ckn salad. PLUS, Jenni Gough at Jenni's Scratch Made Kitchen has a great canning video for Chicken Salad(justaddmayo), that is awesome.
I love watching Jenni Gough!
I don’t usually can for one, but I may need to, especially to have chicken for salad lunches. Thanks so much. Take care.
Sounds great!
I do mushrooms and also jalapeños in the 4 oz. Just enough for a pizza or ingredient in a casserole.
Thank you. I’m a senior & have been downsizing my food intake
Look at that beautiful snow falling. ❄We got a light dusting this year and it was gone before you knew it.
Thanks!
Welcome!
Love it! Thank you for doing this, and sharing the process! Game changer!!❤
Thank you, Ms Leesa. This will be perfect for just me.
Thank you for sharing this. It's just me & hubby and I hate leftovers (and no pets to help me out). I'll be doing this for sure!
I noticed you have that awesome for jars pan stove top timer. I have that also and love it!
I never thought about canning chicken in the smaller jars. I'm going to have to do that. Thank you!
It's so good!
Love this tip. Good to know that the 16 qt Presto will gobble stack the 1/2 pint jars. I was looking to get the presto but did not know which size to look for. This helps me to go study that I need to get.
Those jars are so cute.. I can all my stuff with quarts with 3 teenage boys..definately see where singles serve would come in handy
Great lunch portion. Thank you.
I’m newly widowed and have a lot on pint size jars of meats that I planned for hubby and me. I love the idea of canning chicken in 8 oz jars and wondered if I can do the same with stew meats, ground beef and the like.
Love your channel and your wealth of experience and information. Keep up the fantastic job, you’re great😊
You absolutely can.
@@SuttonsDaze thank you so much! I’m planning to empty some overstock of meats from my freezer to small canning jars thanks to your timely new video🙃
@@lindajimmerson8542 I’m sincerely sorry for such a great loss. May his memory always be a blessing.
@@annaleedaughterofyhwh7767 , thank you AnnaLee. It truly was devastating to lose him 2 days after our 32nd anniversary. Then to lose my 25 year old grandson to diabetes just 1 week later😢. The Lord works in mysterious ways and He has blessed my daughter, family and me in so many beautiful ways🥰. Have a blessed day🙂
What a wonderful way to can for 1!!
You know me, I love using those jars for meats!
Hi, 2LeeLou Creates!
Yes maam!
I’m in the process of canning for one, I’m doing beans today and will be doing meats tomorrow! I’m grateful for your videos, I know canning pints and such but it’s nice to know it’s safe to can in half pints also. Thank you
You got this!
Thank you very much for the coupon code and recommendation for ForJars lids. I received my lids last week and have been very happy with them. Used them this weekend and the quality is exceptional. Thank you again!!! Love your videos!
