Hey everyone! Today we're reviewing the Fatfish 32 Brad Houser Signature Bass from Reverend Guitars! This is the example that we played at Summer NAMM 2021, and I liked it so much I took it home! Featuring a semi-hollow korina body with a solid maple back, a 32" scale set neck, and a pair of very unorthodox but very mean sounding pickups - the Thick Brick and P Blade.. and they're not where you'd expect them. There's no other fish like this one in the sea! Let's check it out!

Thanks for the nice review. I love Reverend. A lot of people don't seem to be into their designs but I appreciate and dig their originality - a breath of fresh air from all the Fender clones
Agreed! Not only have they solidified their design language, but also their tone. I really like their pickup designs. Every Rev I've played has had loads of growl and grit with tons of output.
Lobster is the most genuine bass reviewer on UA-cam
Love the reverse headstock on this. Really badass, fat tone….
Woot! Did you see the Primus: Tribute to Kings show? I caught it down in Baltimore... Was cool and sad all at once.
I did! Had a great time. Indeed was an amazing show but definitely bittersweet
Love the sound and the look, just ordered one!
I finally bought one of these based solely on this video. Oh my.....this thing is quickly becoming my favorite bass. The tone is phenomenal, it's light, and so much fun to play. I threw some D'Addario chromes (105) on it, and that was a great choice
I'm getting one for my first 32"
I have both iterations of this bass..And where it really shines is in a real band mix. Both basses are strung with Chromes ECB82's...This bass with flats is a totally different animal....As always YMMV.
I'm so jelly! I'm saving for this version. I'm an 32 scale purist.
Yowza! Awesome fat bottom sound and unique look. Thanks Lobster! 🦞
The bass sounds great and I will take your word on the excellent build quality. Having said that I am not enthusiastic about the looks, though it does seem well named. Thanks again for another great review Lobster.
I never really knew about these until you had one on a while back. I’m a reverend fan now.
UNBELIEBABLE, I have not doubt at all the best shot scale
Oh my!
That is a very, very nice tone.
I am not a huge fan of MM style pickups but man that has some bawls ...
thats cool you got the "hollywood Dale" reverend from the News Broadcast... Sounds really good too. Im Impressed
Good stuff. I would love to see a review of the Reverend Wattplower if you can get your hand...er...and claw on one. Mike Watt is one of my favorite bassists and the Wattplower is the only signature guitar I've ever wanted.
Dang. Lobster. Stop adding basses to my want list. Lol. Seriously that is a sweet looking and sounding bass. I've been gravitating to medium and short scale basses and definitely need to check this bass out. Thanks for another great review. Cheers.
Excellent review.
Amazing playing again Lobster. Didn’t think I’d like that bass but I was definitely wrong. Very nice!
Man, that thing sounds nice!
I've had a Mercalli, and the neck was finished sooo nicely. As nice a feel as my FGN and they sport some of the best sounding OEM pickups out there.
would love to see a review of the Reverend Dub King bass, looks super cool!
Killler bass!! Also diggin the Primus Tee!!
Nice bass. Love a (non) roasted neck; looks great with a black body.
I agree with you on that bridge. Hopefully Sire is watching. I really like the bass also. Very unique. I think acrylic mother of pearl Inlays would look better, but that's a very nitpick thing. Seems like a great value, really. Love the sound, and the pick ups must be pretty great. Love the idea of a blend and passive electronics. Will seriously give this one a look.
LOVE your channel man. Peace.
Thank you!
Interesting bass! I’m not that into the appearance but it’s the sounds that count. I’ve looked at the “Wattplower ” and they look interesting too. I like those double stops Low!
Thanks for this lobster
Great video!!!!!! Thanks for your work! Beautiful cat.
I like this bass. If it was pink I would love it!
I can see this bass with a set of flats on it. Seems like the right type of pick up combo for flats
Mr. Lobster, thanks for a great review, as usual. Still hoping for a review of the Mercalli 5 (unless you did and I missed it).
Thanks Garland! No Mercalli yet but I hope to try one at some point in the near future
Aye! Lovely
I definitely need to try a Reverend bass .
I've been hoping to hear this. Unique pickup combo and of course Brad Houser is a MONSTER of a bass player.
Cool bass
Nice! Thanks! 🎻🙂✌️😎
Hello and Thanks for the great review of the Fatfish 32. Based significantly on your review, I found a 2020 version on Reverb and purchased it. Initial impression: Really Nice. Going to put on flats and do a complete cleaning and set-up. Question: If I'm stringing through the body, can I use standard (long scale) strings? Or it is best to search out medium scale strings?
Sounds very similar to my Hofner 500/1 with blade pickups (and rounds, of course).
Killer bass
Brad Houser. Best bass guitarist ever 🎸
hey man i’m looking to get a bass for christmas and i’ve been looking at the spector performer 4, could you do a review on it? hope all is well!
A very sweet bass. Whats that 5 string jazz your teasing us with in the background? :)
@LowEndLobster : Great video as usual .. The bridge is so far up from the end of the bass that I would think reach wise it feels more like a ‘34 scale ?
Great question Wyatt! Yeah it does feel a bit 34"ish in terms of play position due to where the bridge is. I'm glad they went with medium scale as upper fret access would be more of an issue if they moved the bridge back 2 inches.
Like it. 👍
Remind me the yamaha attitude Billy sheehan bass
I like to rock a pair of plaid pants as well.
I’m really interested in this bass. How is the sustain?
I guess a "reverse" headstock makes sense for a medium-scale instrument, since it may allow the use of certain "regular" sets of strings that would otherwise be a touch too long (the winding of the E string in particular). Correct me if I'm wrong...
Not a big fan of the aesthetics, though. I especially hate the huge block inlays! I know it's a bit strange to focus on that detail, but it's a pet peeve of mine :)
But, hey, it *does* sound good :)
Review the Wattplower!
Wow, that bridge pickup with 0% tone has some real throaty tone!
What strings are on the bass? I’ve gone from fat flat wounds to putting 60’s style Roto Sound round wound strings on my bass.
Uh…..what’s that new orange burst 5 behind you?👀👀👀👀
Good question! I’m eyeing that too!
What company did you buy the Reverend bass from? I live in New England and I usually buy my basses from Sweetwater but it seems that they have a limited selection
It was a small shop in NY that bought the NAMM inventory in 2021. I don't remember their name. You can reach out to Reverend too and they might be able to point you in the right direction
Lobster! I'm waiting patiently for your harley benton mb-5 review since your bass collection video. How much need I wait?
Haven't filmed that one yet, but it'll probably come out in the next couple of months :)
@@LowEndLobster Then I'll wait some more :). Or buy myself one for christmas
Sounds good strange design
Yo, LEL, what is the best VALUE in jazz bass pickups?
I know this is a non sequitor. But this info is actually hard to find, and you are THE Low End Lobster.
In my experience, in any market, there is always a company that is trying harder than all the other competitors - they're giving away more value for the price than others... for whatever reason - for brand value reasons, for market share reasons, for whatever reasons!
I've got a Glarry JBass and it sucks! Fine for practicing or writing... but I've recorded the Glarry bass, and compared to my Ibanez ATK 700 bass, the Glarry is inaudible in a mix. Like at the same peak and rms levels, the Glarry can't really be heard in a mix with drums and guitars. I've got to give the Glarry like another 6db to get it to the level where the Ibanez sits! And it's not eq or compression... its just an indistinctness that I just don't understand, and can't artificially impart in post production.
So, what is currently the best value in Low End replacement Jazz Bass pickups?
Great question! I haven't explored this too much... yet. The next week long series we'll be doing is a jazz pickup guide. Haven't even started prep for that though, so it'll be a while.
@@LowEndLobster Dude, awesome, I can't wait!
What jazz sound u after?
Fender 60s have been great for me
Kloppman jazz are fantastic too
Lob nailed the Marcus sound with a v7 and a sadowsky pre imo
Close to your heart...ha I get it
What string scale this one use ? Long ? Medium ? Short ?
I used long but medium will work here too
@@LowEndLobster ah thanks for the information sir......
By the way......i love the way you testing the bass with your bassline.....
It will be wonderful you share some basic tricks and technique by making content about trick and technique category on your playlist....
Some bassist channel only give review about instrument ...the other teaching the technique only....
Why not both ? Hahaha...sorry for requesting too much....
I just want you to know that you are wonderful bassist....
How do you make every bass you own or review sound exactly the same?
Love the tone. I can’t get over the reverse headstock. It just looks so ugly.
Oops nevermind I found the link below 👇
0:00 okay now that's a fscken bass. no matter your opinion, that's *some* fscken bass lol holy shit.
I'll just say right off the bat, it's not as goofy looking as my NRG Studio Baritone Mando Guitar (they had a bass, but I wanted a 5 string mando bass before I went that far, but the bari is grunty as hell and resonates like mad) so haters can suck it. A blade split coil and a fattybucker - but positions swapped? oh hell yes, this is gonna be FAT AND BOOPY AF
lol infosec playa should get the fscked up joke ha ha ha everyone hates fsck with deep dread but ya gotta have it sometimes or you're fscked that's why it's so fsckin funny
7:50 bip bip bipity bip bip bip bipity bp bp bp bip bip bip
its more of a bipper than a booper lol
does it ever get burpy, lets see
nope never really gets spitty - I'll blame the nice blade split coil and the half Sheehan config - sort of like it but not exactly in the same spots, but roughly so; bucker in neck, single coil bucker (albeit split) in quasi bridge position. You could actually squeeze a legit inline single coil maybe in there and getcher full burpies spits and fizzies...
Also let me know if you somehow don't like the config and are going to change out the blade pickup - first thing I'd probably try it on is my fretless p which has a bad corrosion problem on its pole pieces. I don't want to swap it with just anything; I won't even try something unless it's original equipment in NOS shape or you know, something *interesting*
;-)
*creamy* is the word I think I was looking for.
🤔… definitely a unique bass, as are all Reverends. If I listened to this bass with my eyes closed it’d be on my wish list, aesthetically not my bag. Enjoy 🦞!
ye i dnt like teh left handed neck on a right handed body kinda weird.
