  • The People's Republic of South Yemen, officially known as the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, was a Marxist-Leninist state located in the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula. It emerged in 1967 after gaining independence from British colonial rule and lasted until its unification with North Yemen in 1990. South Yemen was the only communist state in the Middle East during its existence.
The government of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen was led by the Yemeni Socialist Party (YSP), and it pursued socialist and Marxist-Leninist policies. The country received support from the Soviet Union and aligned itself with the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War. The political landscape was characterized by a single-party system, with the YSP maintaining control over political and economic institutions.
The unification of North and South Yemen in 1990 formed the Republic of Yemen, bringing an end to the existence of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen and its unique status as the sole communist state in the Middle East.

The path to Yemeni unification was very complex and tricky. There was a war between North and South in 1972, then in 1979, then the Civil War in South Yemen in the 80s. These facts are not mentioned in the video.

I am from south Yemen. South Yemen has been subjected to persecution and deprivation of the most basic necessities of life, as it was displaced from its land after its occupation by North Yemen in 1994, but we will regain our state soon.

@@HistoryHustle . in 1990 north yemen and south yeken united forming the coutnry of yemen and the government of north yemen leaded the country of yemen the unity's goal was to improve both north yemen qnd south Yemen's economy and life of the people but the government of north yemen decided to only help the northern people and not the people from south they even got to the point to stealing resources frim the south and giving it to the north they even focused safety in the north and because of that we left the union in 1994 (in the papers of the union it stated that any country in the union can leave when ever it wants) ok so we left the union in 1994 they weren't so happy about our exit cz they want us (our resources) and so they declared war on the south in the same year with the help of USA the war lasted 3 months i think after the war ended and they occupied us they started looting our cities and destroying stuff for absolutely no reason at all they destroyed the infrastructure and many historical building but the people of the south couldn't do anything so thry gave unity a second chance from 1994-2009 in 2009 riots started all across because the economy was falling and almost nothing was growing and because the south wanting freedom but it was met with the killing of civilians 10k-20k died because of the protests so in 2015 a civil war the houthis were born and they attacked almost everyone northern city they occupied the north and got to parts of the south but the GCC countries alonng with some other countries decided to attack houthis and at the same year the southern movement started again but this time allying with yemen against the houthis and al qaeda they won and kicked houthis out of the lands of yhe south but they still remain in many parts of the north and after the battle ended against the houthis the southern movement started negotiating with yemen, yemen kept rejecting untill the southern transitional council was established and with the support of the uae we were able to get bakc aome of our land by using force instead of negotiating .
