Kitty, thanks for the good words. That cave was about twice as big as I thought it would be, pretty awesome. It would be great for shelter, a storm couldn't get to you easily in there. It would be warmer than outside too.
I think you found it! Surely must have been a shelter for indians, pioneers or bandits at some time or another. But I'm surprised that no litter remains from any occupations. I was with my family in N Arkansas once and ran across a cave much like this. My wife started digging with a stick, thinking "If I was a squaw, this is where I would cook." Sure enough, she uncovered a rock that certainly had been used to crush corn or whatnot. There was a shallow cave on my family homestead in N MS, where family tradition held that it was used as a hiding place for the menfolk when word spread that jayhawkers were sweeping the community for men and boys to press into service in the Confederate Army. The jayhawkers were ruffians, outlaws and cutthroats that would either kill for sport, or take men in chains to the army for a bounty.
I'm glad you persevered and I'm sure you did too! Nice just to know where a cave like that is if you needed some shelter while hiking in the area. Beautiful area by the way. Thanks Perry for sharing.
Wow, what an awesome spot! That is worth being excited about! Thanks for sharing and hope you will do a camp out there in the future, would love to see it!
Very cool. I’m wondering how far the closest water source is? And if it was in use during prehistoric times? Thanks for sharing your wonderful adventure.
That is the trail head for the main canyon I went up. It is up Chicken Creek out of Levan, about a mile and a half from the top. The road is gravel but suitable for most vehicles. The rock is very interesting. Thanks for the question.
Yeah there had been people there, some recently. I didn't really dig around much while there, but I'm sure there are plenty of things to find. We are planning another trip out there soon. Thanks for the comments
Ah Man, "Choke Cherry's" in Syrup forum.....That is what I call;....Slap Grandma if she even tries to get a bite from my plate. I like it in syrup and jelly forum to be honest......dang, I'm home sick now!
This is in central Utah. It is in the mountains to the west of a little town called Wales. There is a canyon directly west of town past the cemetery and it goes up over the mountains. A couple miles past the top you get to an area of red conglomerate rock and it is north up the canyon from where i camped. Thanks for watching and for asking about it. Perry
Haha, yeah absolutely one of my favorite things is Chokecherry syrup. We may do a video on picking and making the syrup...I'll definitely will be eating something with it in some upcoming videos.
Yes I do Ron, I did snap a pic with the Spyglass app that overlaid the GPS. Here it is. 39 31'42 N 111 43'51 W at 7278 ft elevation. If you are in Utah I-15 South of Nephi to Levan, head West to Chicken Creek Canyon it's near the top. From Sanpete county, go to Wales and up Wales canyon over the top and down about a mile and a half into Chicken Creek. Look for the big balanced rock shown in the first of the video. Thanks for asking.
Great video..! I enjoyed watching it for the 3rd time in 5 yrs.

Wow! Now you need to make a woven screen and grow some wild ivy up it to conceal the entrance from anyone else who may wander up there.
perfect
Wow!! What a discovery!! That cave would definitely make a great shelter/hideout! Thanks for taking us along! ~Kitty

well that's a pretty cool cave,
you could sleep loads of folks in there,
i wonder how many more undiscovered ones there are,
I don't know how many more, I found a number that were usable, but much smaller than this one. I may try to snowshoe into this one during the winter.
Hello .
I love the nature of your country. In Vietnam, we also have beautiful forests, but were mercilessly devastated by Lam Tac.
Wow, what an awesome spot! That is worth being excited about! Thanks for sharing and hope you will do a camp out there in the future, would love to see it!

There is water in the canyons, not too much but a steady flow. I don't know how far back it was used, but certainly after the 1200's AD.
Great video cave can be used as a bug out location
Grea video. Very beautiful country. I would love to see it.
Great job, Great hideout
It was larger than I thought it would be, it expected about half that size. Thanks for the comment
