If you are doing a scientific test then yes consistent test conditions are nice. That type of testing is not needed here. Most people just want to know how the microphones perform in a real world environment and what are the features. Great video 👍
Hi Bobby, I have the Sony ECM-B1M which use with the FX30 when I’m outside and a Deity S Mic 2S for the audio handle, I mainly use that for the talking head videos and also use a Deity HD-TX with Sennheiser Lav for backup as there might be some room echo from the shotgun mic. I use the Deity V Mic D3 Pro on the Nikon Z8, both in “studio” and for out on the street. Lost the wind muff the other day, now I’m thinking about the Sennheiser MKE-400 to use outside. It’s a smaller mic with good sound for on camera use. As far as the mics in the test, I like the sound of the ECM-B1M better, of the 3 available last year. This new unit has some pretty nice features built in but, I’m sticking with the B1M. Every time you do a video around Singapore, I’m thinking I need to make a trip over there.
I have the ECM-B10 and I feel that it lacks bass. I'm used to using DJI Mic lav mics, so maybe I'm just not used to this "thinner" audio. Do you agree with the lack of bass? Do you do any corrections in the EQ when using these mics?
My voice naturally has a lot of bass so I’m usually removing it. I would say if you find it without that much may need to adjust the settings, low pass filter or Noise reduction will limit bass or just add it in post. All my audio is treated except in this video which is straight out of the camera
Family photo guy ... Love the g1 ! I use the Auto with the Super Cardio pattern . Of course, you could use the provided cable to dial in ... I prefer the Auto, perfect run, and gun. WAY better than my A6400 O.E.M. With NO Fussing around ! For the Everyday Joe/non pro like me... this is a game changer.
Hello, I can't find for the life of me find a clear answer somewhere... What would be the best microphone to record a stage performance, in a theater, at a range from 5 to 15 meters ? Thanks for who could help...
@@btonelli Thank you. But i want an "on camera" mic, if possible, that can get sound from the stage if the camera is placed in the audience. There are many situations where I can't place mics on stage. I tried ECM-XYST1M and although it's slightly better than built in mic on my Sony FDR-AX700, it's not satisfactory (Voices still sound "far", and i have a kind of light "motor sound"
@@acomediann I think you will probably find options from Rode and Sennheiser more so than Sony for this type of application. They have longer shotgun mics designed for such instances. You may need to look at Broadcast quality options as well
Hnnnnnnng the only thing that has me hungup between the M1's 4 channel auto recording (that captures omni and -20!! ontop of what ever mode you choose for ch1/2) .. & the B1M being purely MONO... but in saying that I feel like the M1 sounds worse / bad tone.. so, I'd go the B1M and sacrifice those cool features 😢
you should buy a lavalier and a recorder. With any microphone, set it at near your mouth and set 1/2 of maximum level. It will reduce noise. I use Sony ECM LV1, my sound is better than yours!

Amazing test, makes it easy to see the differences.
Thank you!
Thank you
Which of the two, B1M or new M1 is better for a loud music concert? I already have the B1M and find it not stereo and clips often. Thanks.
Nice test! Just what I needed
Thanks 🙏
Don't mean to be critical but if you're going to test you need to keep the surroundings constant. As such only the last test was worthwhile.
Watch till the end where I test all outside

The B1M is a great piece of kit for audio. Handles everything well. Haha yes Singapore is fun to visit!
@@btonelli Love that place! Right now I'm enjoying the cooler temps in Chiang Mai, Hong Kong is looking promising for a few days.
What people don't talk about is how is the handling sound in the camera and how is the battery life affected when using the mic?
