Julian Ritchings' portrayal of Death is probably the best I've ever seen from any show/movie. He looks almost skeletal, is entirely dismissive of everyone and everything. He very much has an aura of "I'm way older and more powerful than you, and nothing you do could possibly threaten me... I am Death."
That's because the writers have a very childish and ignortant understanding of theology and mythogy. More comic-book quality of conceptualization. A "horseman of" isn't the "epitome of" nor "living spirit of." But, it's melodramatic and sensational, so it fits well into whatever scene slot they needed ot fill out the sci-fi soap opera. This explanation makes no sense whatsoever, but Dean accepts it on its face (convenient compliance for the plot). Not sure why you think this is a good or exceptional depiction of death (the actual) or the horseman. Pretty typical detached edgelord "i am great. i am special. i am bored by all things" depiction of an immortal.
I see this Death when he takes on a form humans can understand, but in my mind he goes a similar arc as the Grim Reaper as written by Terry Pratchett. Slowly becoming interested in his crop.
I have to say that Death introduction is one of the best character entrances in any TV show I’ve ever seen. The song choice, camera angle, the slow walk and greyish tone made it very ominous! The character is fantastic overall imo, definitely one of the best. Great reaction!
Agreed entirely. I was half expecting the sidewalk to crack under his feet. Death was extremely impressive and cool as a primal manifestation of the universe. Unfortunately they went to the well too often and ended up basically ruining it (IMHO).
Always loved this take on Death. He’s just a nonchalant sassy old guy. He reaps b/c it’s what he has to do, it’s his job. A force of the universe that brings the end to all who also happens to be a foodie
@@patrickmcguire7896 I mean, Raphaels wasn't terrible either but it was a lot less showy. Taking out the grid for the entire side of the country just by appearing is pretty badass too.

"I want to trust Crowley." The rest of us smirking, knowing how much you're going to love him after what he does in this episode. Crowley is a great character. I know you're cautious after Ruby. Ruby lied pretending to help the team. Crowley is up front that he is out for himself. So, you know he's going to turn on you when it benefits him and he doesn't hide it. So since you want to trust Crowley, know this: you can always trust his nature, if not always his deeds.
Definitely trust Crowley. He’ll annoy the crap out of you at times but ultimately you’re gonna love him. Mark Sheppard is an amazing add to the cast! ❤️
Death's entrance was the best in the series. The conversation with Death & Dean was great. Death's just 'being' was commanding respect and Dean was giving it. I love how Death was slurping his drink & eating pizza. How can you not like Crowley. He gave Bobby his legs back & gave him a kiss, too. Even took a picture to show everyone. LOL!

i love how dean is usually full of bravado and confidence, but when he got to death he just couldn't with a force of nature like that. proper respect and all that.
It is not likely that Dean loses Sam, it is a fact ! Either Sam succeds and jumps with Lucifer in the Cage or he fails and Luci wears him to the prom. Regardless what is going to happen, Sam is gone when they go with the plan.
Silly trivia time; buckle up. :) Matt Frewer plays Pestilence. He had his own sitcom back in the day (Doctor, Doctor), but he also played the lead in the Max Headroom series back in ‘85. One of the recurring characters on Max Headroom was played by W. Morgan Sheppard, father of Mark Sheppard…just about 25 years before this episode of Supernatural. End of trivia; we now return you to your regularly scheduled comment section, in progress.
Death’s intro is one of my favorite introductions not just in Supernatural, but in most of television. The song was perfect and he was absolutely NOT what any of us were expecting.
This episode is my favorite of this season and maybe of all the serie. Just because the actor who played Death is so good for this character. Nearly the only one who give fear and respect from Dean. His aura is so powerful , really good played.
Awesome reaction! There is so much going on and it’s great to see you enjoying it. I am really looking forward to your reaction to the next episode 😄👍🏻 thanks for the great content.
OMG so glad you are back! And glad you are feeling better. I have been waiting waiting waiting to watch this episode with you! I love your raw and honest reactions. I tell people oh my God she screams and laughs and cries "WTF's" just like I do!
I also love Bobby. :) I don't know if this is a controversial Supernatural opinion but I care way more about all the side characters than I care about Sam and Dean; Bobby, Castiel and Crowley are all far more interesting, in my opinion.
The penultimate episode of the season and I agree with you. I wonder how it came this far indeed. Probably because of the run of episodes dedicated to the main story with limited fillers. This is the ninth consecutive episode dedicated to the main story and it's guaranteed for the tenth next time. When it comes to the Horsemen, War was a decent threat but not that epic. Famine was supremely vicious. Death shows he needed to be accessed by sacrificing an entire town and later turning Bobby's hometown into a Zombieland. Matt Frewer is a decent actor and he plays Pestilence as a fierce foe with spawning plagues in the previous episodes. If you ask me he probably let loose something we have come to know and abhor, COVID-19. I do find it funny that Pestilence infects Sam with Syphillis, completing the trifecta of STDs that he had endured this season with the Clap as well as Genital Herpes as his penance for being with Ruby. Revelation 6:8 - "And behold a pale horse, and he that sat upon him, his name was Death, and hell followed him." If ever this show lived up to a Bible verse was that epic scene with Death appearing in this show. But what I absolutely love about it is that he was never on Lucifer's side. He is the embodiment of what gives life meaning, he respects and loves life. In this great war of supernatural powers, he is Switzerland tethered to the villain. Nice that he offers what Dean wants but with a said condition. For the longest time, I always respected Dean and felt that Sam was weak. But as this episode, heck this season has demonstrated that Dean was the weak one and Sam is the strongest. He promised Dean that he wanted redemption for his actions in the previous season, not revenge. I do believe that Sam has lived up to his promise. I have always felt that Dean swore just to himself that he would have done anything and everything for his family as long as they stayed alive. From there he has demonstrated fierce and unnatural loyalty to his family. And in turn, he has expected his family to be loyal back, going so far as to always feel betrayed every time his father or brother left him. Now he has to face not just having lost his father these past four years but now having to accept that to save the world, Sam must die for it. Quite the way to end this episode, I cannot wait for the next episode.
Wow. I love a Woman in Red, does it to me each and every single time. Anyhow, yes, this was an incredibly powerful and pivotal episode, especially Dean's profound chat with Death in the Chicago pizzeria. Whoa! Well, wait till you see the NEXT episode. Yes, Bobby has the best assessments of people and yes, he's the best.
Although it was cool to see Sam stepping up and making himself accountable, his plan to say yes makes no more sense than Dean saying yes to Michael, worse in fact because he's literally going to be dancing with the devil.
@@aaronking5640 There was zero guarantee either brother would be able to overcome either Angel , but the difference with Michael is he was open to discussion regards saving his father's creation, he was a reluctant participant entrusted with guarding the planet. Michael was the logic choice, choosing to say yes to Lucifer was illogical
