Dry Docking a Ship
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 вер 2024
- Dry Docking a Ship is an integral part of ship operation as maintenance and repairs of those parts which cannot be accessed when the ship is in water can only be done in dry docks.
The dry-docking process refers to when a vessel is taken to the service yard and brought to dry land so that submerged portions of the hull can be cleaned and inspected. This work is both preventative as well as a regulatory requirement within the industry.
When the ship enters a dry dock, it must have a positive metacentric height; and is usually trimmed by stern. The floor of the dry dock is lined with keel blocks, which are so arranged such that they can bear the weight of the ship. When the ship enters the dry dock, her centerline is first brought in line with the centerline of the keel blocks by using a combination of plum lines and Leica theodolite.

What an interesting presentation. So many variables that I never considered. Thanks for the knowledge and entertainment.
Glad it was helpful!
Can you please upload a video regarding construction of Caisson Gate for a graving dock.
EXCELLANT TUTION TYPE VIDEOS, GOOD SPOON FEEDING LIKE BEAUTIFUL LANGUAGE. WELL DONE.
Glad you found it useful 👍
Simply superb presentation
Thank you! Cheers!
Good work. This was a pleasure to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Quite educative. Good video. Thanks 🙏🌷
Glad you enjoyed it
Well done, the a lot! But be careful, the CoG does not change when touching the blocks (provided you have no free surface moments). It is the upthrust that is transferred from the CoB to the blocks. However, some literature refers to it as a virtual rise of CoG.

Excellent video. Great information 🙏
Thank you Syam. Please do share and support. 👍🏻
Very interesting, thank you.

very informative video. I was wondering where the drawings, details, dimensions of dry docking area in a shipyard would be available?.
Nice video. Next, please make a detailed video on how floating docks work.
Great suggestion!
Thanks for sharing!
Amazing!
Thank you for the comment
i love docking! 😍
👍
Thank you for the interesting video and explained very well.
Glad it was helpful!

drydock are realy interesting ..i been to drydock twice lot of works noice and everything. i did some behind the scene video so if you wanna check it out.. lots of happenings going on
Thank you for commenting. We would love to know your dry dock experience 👍🏻
Sir very gud video n gud knowledge for seamen who never did drydock .
Glad you liked it
SUPER
How do floating drydocks sink. I'm sure some kind of tanks fill with water ballast, but the concept is vague in my mind.
Yes you are correct: floating dry docks suck in sea water into massive tanks which causes the floating dock to sink down then the water is pumped back out when the floating dock needs to lift up.
👌👌👌
👍
Excellent content ! Keep making interesting video.I like the animation!
what calculation is required when is entering the drydock ( virtual loss of gm calculation ) can you explain
do check this detailed article - www.marineinsight.com/guidelines/dry-dock-types-of-dry-docks-requirements-for-dry-dock/
Any idea why we take wet sounding of tank and after ship resting on block dry sounding is taken ?
I don't know why I laughed at the title
🧐😆
N&W 1218 nothing wrong with the title, unless you do not know the business.
Oh sh#t uh *bails out of window* just keeps running.
N&W 1218 😂
Great
Excellent explanation 😁✌️
When the ship is in dry dock, what does the crew of the ship do, and do they stay at hotels.
Depends if ship has provided with shore power
Ok.so at 1:27 the part that was being removed has what looks like two fan ducts, what are they, and what are they for?
What are Requiments of dry dock.
I think you must state maintenance plans
And dry dock requirements
Thank you for the suggestion. We can have a separate topic on that
Does a graving dock could both meet the requirements of ship repairing & ship building? For example, capabilities to tanker/container vessel of up to 300 meters L.O.A like that, both ship repairing & ship building, thank you!
Very good explanation
Keep it up
Plss do a video on Life of a deck cadet
Hi Sai.
Thank you for your comment. Well noted 👍🏻
Whats the difference bw shipyard and a dry dock..or is that same
Shipyard is used for construction of the ship and dry dock is used for repairs. Usually, a shipyard can have a dry dock.
Sir the blocks fitted under the keel wen docking in floating dock how they know does yard take the ships plan size of ship ??but those blocks r fitted wer the ship beam remain no?
When should Propellers and Rudders be inspected?
During dry docking of the ship
How to make sure that ship is in right position to touch the block ??
That comes under docking plan
After touching the first blocks with the stern, there is still the opportunity to adjust the side blocks so that it matches the docking plan. That is why it is so important to know at which draught the stability finally vanishes.
Why the stern touches the Keel blocks first why not the stem
do you guys have a E- Book for docking operation to learn?
We do have an ebook on drydocking porcedure - learn.marineinsight.com/eBooks/e-dry-dock-combo-pack/
I m searching too
How do you paint the areas of the hull where the boat is sitting on the blocks?
They do not paint that area. It will be done during the next docking.
@@janvisser2223 ...so the next time the workers must know, which Part of the hull was not painted this time? And what about new ships? Which are both painted Set?
Atelier unter der Teck during the next docking a diver will check the position of the vessel in relation to the keel blocks. Vessels position can be changed by winches on the walls of the dock.
Newbuilding is something completely different. Ships are built in large block sections. Placed on steel supports. The blocks are completely painted except for the ends were the section buttwelds are to be made. Those parts are left with only the socalled shopprimer on it.
After finishing the buttwelds, including tightness test and NDT, the small areas (about 600 mm wide) needs to be provided with the prescribed coating system (anti corrosive and / or antifouling)
Keel blocks will of-course be removed then in those areas.
An owner will not accept it otherwise.
Back to a regular docking: a shipyard will charge the owners for each block to be removed. Normally, the paint system on the flat bottom part of the hull will be found intact during inspection, making it not necessary to recoat the areas resting on the blocks.
Thank you very much, Jan! That is very interesting for me and now I have finally understood the processes!
How to go drydock with damaged ship?
Cool intro🔥👏
Hey Ashish

No. No, I never wondered. I only watch videos to be informed without a lot of fluff and meandering. I’m a pretty busy guy and have about four other things I need to do without steering through a lot of garbage, first. Sorry…NOT sorry!
