Beautiful Burt Bacharach - thanks for the joy of your music! I saw this movie when I was 7 years old and never forgot it, especially this song. So wonderful to see him rehearsing with the children. What incredible joy he brought to his work - no wonder all his songs continue to make people happy decades on. RIP BB

I loved it then and love it now. The critics never swayed me. I know it’s not perfect. I love it for what it is. And isn’t.
My name is Diana Lee and I’m retired from a busy and blessed studio singing career, a highlight of which was singing this wonderful song for the actress Liv Ullman, along with her other songs in the film. Burt and Hal were treasures to work with and fully supported me, same with Ms. Ullmann. Great memories, from 1972.
The dubbing for both Ullmann and Finch is spot on and beautiful. Lost Horizon came out at a time when "old Hollywood" was being rejected by critics for the new edgy era of filmmaking that EASY RIDER ushered in. Non the less, it's a lavish film, handsomely crafted with a wonderful score. The music is what I like best about LH. The film has legs.
@@cscarson8798 Thanks! It was a wonderful experience. And for the record….Finch was dubbed by my ex husband, Jerry Whitman and I agree, he did an awesome job, approached it the way an actor-singer would, so it was very believable. I loved the duet, I Might Frighten Her Away and how it was filmed.

From the moment I watched 'Lost Horizon' with the children singing this beautiful song I knew I would always love it and go back to the movie throughout my adult life too.
I’m doing the same on piano, and you’re absolutely right. If you haven’t done so, check out his title track for after the fox. On the surface, it seems like a silly, frothy cartoon song. But there are equally amazing chord changes, with an unusual modulation from the verse to the chorus. and Bacharach’s genius makes it work perfectly.

At 15 sec. and again later, I particularly like the A minor chord going to the F seventh chord, with an added 9th - and possibly something else as well...? Wonderful stuff!

Many of his songs were very complicated. My favorite Anyone Who Had A Heart is a very difficult song to sing- even Kelly Clarkson turned it down when she was competing on Idol.

You are correct. His songs can be extremely hard to sing in the way the notes jump all over the place.

The frequently changing tempo and keys are pure Bacharach. It's a difficult song for these reasons but these kids nailed it.
