Honestly the book is so much more worse in regards to the abuse. The movie barley covers it. I think Christina also wants people to read the book so she will obviously say that the movie is nothing like the book.

Yep. The fact that Joan’s friends and family so vehemently deny Christina’s claims is evidence (not proof, there is a difference) that this IS true. Their behaviour matches that of “Flying Monkeys” which are family members or friends that enable the Narcissist and see them for how they want to be seen as, not as who they really are. It’s common and it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s exactly what was happening.

So she had every opportunity to say untrue things about Joan to make money. Crawford had 2 other daughters who claims Christina's book was untrue and they were never abused. So we'll never know, but it leans more towards Christina being an opportunist most have said. But again, we weren't there.
