Can the footrests be removed?

I've heard of issues with small parts falling off/breaking, specifically at the footrest pivot point. Is this true and will Drive replace defective parts if this did happen?

Is it all terrain? I have a Drive duet and my aide was pushing me and hit an uneven crack in the sidewalk pretty hard and she flipped my onto the pavement really hard.
