    So I’m Autistic and didn’t cry when I lost my Nunna a few years ago. I loved her and miss her dearly but I have trouble expressing emotion. Watching this video though, it’s like seeing her again. Even though my Nunna was Maltese, from the way you touch your nose to how you move your hands, it’s all so familiar.
    You’re incredibly talented. Thankyou for connecting me to an emotion I thought was locked.

    • @cecilyerker
      @cecilyerker 4 роки тому +45

      Briar Rose I’m autistic too and any emotional experience you have or express about your grief is okay and normal and valid! Your Nunna is at peace and your love for her is eternal. If you can only express emotion in private or using a video for catharsis then that’s super fine!

      Of course. Malta was for many centuries part of the Sicilian Kingdom. The Relationship between Sicilian and Maltese were always intense. Geographically, Malta is the Spur of Sicily. Malta is much closer to Sicily, than Lampedusa is. And the language spoken by the Maltese is the same spoken in Sicily many centuries ago. So sad, that we lost this beautiful island.

    My honorary Uncle Thomas is really good with removing the bad eye, once my mum had to ask my uncle, her best friend Helena and her friend Stavros to remove my bad eye, they were all exhausted after that. Uncle Thomas and Helena asked me if I pissed off anyone and I had my ex-best friend Maria and she had a tendency to talk badly about people behind their backs. I was right she sort of hexed me...more like gave me a bad eye and I had a terrible headache, I couldn't get warm, I had chills and my nose was cold and it bled twice. I even fainted too. Me fainting and my nose bleeds made my mum ask her friends to remove the bad eye.
    Another time, my mum had a bad eye and it took her friends two days to get rid of it.
    The whole concept of the bad eye is very interesting to me.

    • @VasilikiTzalachanihappy
      @VasilikiTzalachanihappy 4 роки тому +6

      @@cherriesbloom9327 The bad eye or evil eye it's a Greek and Italian and maybe from other countries tradition and it means that someone has hexed you or cursed because they had evil or bad intentions. Symptoms are headaches, stomachaches, dizziness, discomfort and easy irritation. You need to tell someone who knows such things to bless you in order to be healed. Neither Nonna of mine is like this!!! Well, they could have been, I’m not sure... but I didn’t grow up here and one has Alzheimer’s, so I can’t really be too sure what she would be like without it!!! I’ve just met A LOT of older Italian ladies (esp living here in Italy) and kind of combined all of the women I’ve ever met!!! nonna is all-encompassing! 🥰🥰🥰

    Grazie mille per fare questa mini serie sulla nonna italiana, ogni volta che li vedo mi ricordo di mia nonna che purtroppo è venuta a mancare qualche anno fa e davvero mi sembra di averla per un po' ancora qui con me. Non sai quanto mi renda felice, grazie per tutto quello che fai!!!

    I saw this when it got posted a week or so ago but i couldnt watch it because it was posted right when my Nonna passed away. I almost cried even just seeing it in my notifications. Thank you for making videos like these. Being at peace with my Nonnas passing these videos make me feel like shes still here a little. I'll miss being guilt tripped into staying later at Nonnas and hearing her say "why you no visit nonna". I miss her but this video is comforting :) thanks!

    In Greece the same ritual is called "xematiasma" where the "Maloccio" is called "Mati" which also means eye! In folklore when someone carrying a "bad eye" -usually blue or green eyes but could be brown as well- admires you, they transfer to you the "mati".

    This is giving me nostalgia from when my γιαγιά was still alive. My brother and I had to wear a greek eye pin on our clothes growing up. In Greek culture, we wear a greek eye to protect ourselves from the evil eye, which is essentially the same thing as the malocchio. Thanks for that memory :)

      Oh yes I love watching the limpias on UA-cam!!!! It’s my absolute favourite for unintentional ASMR!!! We have the floating egg yolk too!! And some rituals involving pennies and herbs. But it depends on who you speak to, because this is all very ~occult~ and the majority of Italians these days are extremely Catholic! (But still, some practice this cause traditions are super strong in certain places, like the South!!)

      Yes you’re exactly right! My grandmother was catholic and I from from a Hispanic family who strongly believe in curanderas and home remedies! I greatly appreciate you making this video because it really does remind me of my late grandmother ❤️ she wasn’t a nonna but she was a “lita” short for “abuelita” and Nonna really does remind me of her in a way. Thank you for making more nonna videos. I can’t wait to see you become EXTEMELY successful with your UA-cam channel. I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been here since Lorna from OITNB❤️❤️

    We call it Mal De Ojo...or just Ojo. Not only is it negative thoughts but also can be given through "admiration". Like if you admire someone from afar but you do not make contact you give them ojo. Mexican parents who believe in mal de ojo will offer up their baby for you to touch if they see youre admiring their child to keep them from getting sick.
