Remember that there is a treble clef (played with right hand) and bass clef (played with left hand). Each clef has a staff, which tells you which notes to play. There are five lines and four spaces for each staff. A music note can be placed on either a line or a space and depending on the line or space, tells you which note to play on the piano and where to play it. When memorizing the lines and spaces for each clef, make sure to count from the bottom of the staff to the top to get the right answer. The lines of the treble clef are E, G, B, D and F. The spaces of the treble clef are F, A, C, E. Lines of the bass clef will be G, B, D, F, A and spaces are A, C, E, G.

I could never remember the bottom line of the bass cleft until I started calling it the (G)round floor
Well now I will remember that too I guess. Than-q 😊
Brilliant! 🥰
hey ,if anyone else wants to discover play best piano online course try Jadonite Piano Player Buddy (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my mate got great results with it.
To go with that, the fifth line on the treble cleft is the (F)ifth floor
"Clef" actually means "key" in French. "Cleft" is a crack.
My parents got me a keyboard piano when I was 6, when I was 7 they got a divorce, I never got to play that piano again after that instead I was hype fixating over my new life of being shipped back and fourth week by week between parents... I finally at 26 got the urge to learn how to read sheet music, I had some small vague memories of my happier days learning the notes playing silly songs like nursey ryhmes. This video has not only made learning this very very easy, as well as bringing me happiness that I finally can learn a skill i've wanted to acquire but never had the support to. I no longer have that keyboard but played jingle bells on an online piano while watching your video and i've never felt more accomplished. Thank you so much!!!!!

Hi Tabitha how's your learning coming along great I hope slow-but-steady
This is the most comprehensive guide to sheet music I've seen in my entire life.
I can't believe how simple it is.
This video just got you a like & subscribe sir.
Just wonderful, I have been researching "music notation for children" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Foonlant Dumbstruck Formula - (just google it ) ? It is an awesome exclusive guide for discovering how to teach your child to read music notes without the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my mate got great results with it.

I'm 42 and have never played or read music ever. But I've always wanted to learn piano but worried about reading music. Yours is the only one I've seen and it makes so much sense and is easy to follow and will get me past the opening hurdles in learning. Thank you so much!

I bought a piano for my daughter. I need to learn it also so that I can teach her. this is a good video. Thanks.
beautiful comment! as someone who grew up without a father for 90% of my childhood, I have mad respect for you, and thank you.
Same your a great fathr my father doesnt buy me nothing and he doesnt even know how old i am i never seen him for 11 years

Me too but in the process I got more interested than her lol Hopefully she'll follow.
I appreciate the fact that he has the piano and the notes on the screen while he's teaching the lesson...VERY HELPFUL!!
Glad to hear you appreciate it. I try my best!
@@LessonsOnTheWeb yeah man, do appreciate it!
This video taught me more in 22 minutes than my music class has in a year...
Thank you for your amazing videos man :)

Same!!
If you had watched Pianote's lesson, you could have learned this same thing in 9 minutes and 42 seconds.
Clearly you didn't want to learn at school. That's the facts of the matter. You can't say they were unable to teach this in an entire year, that's on you, not them.
Watching these kinds of videos reminds me of how truly far I have come as a musician. It's good to appreciate where I came from when I struggle with more complex concepts like chords and differing rhythms happening simultaneously. Great video for beginners!
A good tip is use your hands as references. Rigjt hand tremble, the fingers will be e g b d f and the spaces between f a c e. The same thing with the left hand with corresponding notes
That is a good tip. Thanks for sharing!
Hi this is a nice tip. But will it be like
Thumb- E
Index finger- G
Middle finger- B
Ring finger- C
And pinky finger- F
Please do tell
I am a beginner in piano
And what about the spaces?

The worst thing about this is that I learned everything in French, so it’s not letters, it’s do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, si. So now, I have to relearn everything in English. What letter corresponds to what note, what the lines and spaces are and when I find like oh okay that line is F, I have to translate it to French in my head. Ah yes, the struggles of being bilingual.
Same, I also use that system
Lmfao didn't even know that was French. We learned do re mi for notes in choir.
I’m bilingual but I don’t speak french and I learned it in french too
Same for Turkish. I learned as Do re mi and now Im here like "what the hell is E and how do I read it"
LMAO im a Vietnamese and we also learn sheets with Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Si and i could never be able to learn it
I have studied music about 10 years ago in school and forgotten most of it. this video was so comprehensive and brought it all back for me. very easy to understand so thank you!
Thank you sooo much for being extremely simple and clear. For years I have been trying to learn how to read notes and while some sites taught me how to, you are the first to simultaneously show me where they are located on the piano. Appreciated.
THANK YOU!! Of all the sites and schools ETC I have seen over the years, yours is THE ONE that tuned on a light! I finally understand music writing! And thanks for the web site tips!!

We had every good boy deserves fudge in my elementary school 😂
@@AS-bq7sc And for us, it was "fruit". Clearly we were ahead of our time, health-wise. ;-)
For the bass clef, we would use: "Good Boys Deserve Fruit Always", but that always seemed like cheating to me - too similar to the other one. It should have a unique one of its own, but I haven't thought of a good one so far.
For some reason, I can usually remember that the middle line of the bass clef is D, and the middle line of the Treble Clef is B.
I've just thought that the line and 2 spaces between the 2 staves is BCD - Before Christ, Dinosaurs.
Or to remember it descending: DCB - Dinosaurs Came Back
You should really love your grandma
Thank you so much for your videos. I'm new at learning how to read music and how to play the piano. Your method is perfect for people like me, clueless about notes. Baby steps to later on, run a marathon 👌🏼. GREETINGS FROM JAPAN!
Thanks a lot Monica. Glad I could help.
Over 5 years of learning how to read sheet music in music class did nothing but a 22 minute video helped me learn more than I ever thought I could know
Your ass definitely ain’t pay attention
Awesome video. I know this is years old but I've been teaching myself piano over the past few weeks and while the books I have are helpful this is exactly what I needed to progress. I ended up using sticky notes and putting them on the left and right side of my keyboard with all the notes for the bass and treble clef respectively. Helped a ton! Thank you!
Super helpful in making a transition from reading tabs for guitar to reading music for piano. Thank you.
Have to say this is the best video for explaining basic theory on piano. Clarified where to play the middle c perfectly and how the notes are different on the bass clef. Please keep up the good work.
Probably the most helpful video I’ve seen on learning to read music. Very thorough and easy to follow; great job!
Thank you for posting these excellent tutorial vids! Your teaching methods are fantastic and so easy to understand. Yesterday I watched this video and realized just how easy reading sheet music can be. Priceless!
I'm half way through this video and so excited about what I've learnt. I love your work!

Thanks, i just wish i could focus more though, i always end up pissing around on my keyboard, constantly going over the one song i know.
nothing wrong with that at all but I suggest setting aside a specific set time for practice, and whatever time you have leftover to spare use for enjoying the fruits. since doing this my drumming technique has improved substantially. have fun! i also always set aside break days for just doing whatever feels right on the kit
I’m learning to play the piano and I wasn’t interested in learning how to read sheet music at all and I can’t believe how much I learned watching this video! Definitely will be learning now. You get a sub from me my man.
I started playing the piano when I was 6, and so many people said I had talent, and I actually think I do, but I lost my inspiration to play, and ended up unsubscribing to your channel, and stopped practicing. I have seen that was the only thing I regretted doing in my life, now I'm going to dedicate myself, resubcribe, and to go back to learning how to read sheet music, thanks so much for the motivation, you give a great class!! I'm currently 16 years old btw. I plan on being a musician if everything goes in favor of it :)
Same story bro...let's get better together
Same but my parents never praised me and forced me to play. I ended up hating piano until I fell in love with music again and now I'm tryna learn how to read music sheets again😂😂
your pfp is epic

I haven't read sheets in YEARS! We just got a new piano in the house and I've been dying to teach our daughter to play, this will help her a lot to remember placement. You're awesome 🖤
Great instruction. Your explanations were spot on for me as a beginner in reading notes and understanding the treble and bass clefts.
The explanation was very clear and understandable ❤️👍

This is THE ONLY GREAT video to learn how to read music! I watched several and I was turn off, people speaks so fast, and like learning another language the teacher needs to speak calmly like this teacher, I can not BELIEVE I got it, thank you for speaking patiently and like for babies 😊now thanks to this video I am excited again!

You are a Music Teacher indeed! Thank you. So easy to learn now
this was so incediblely helpful! thank you so much!
Best basics lesson that i've found on here. THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for this simple yet mindful instructional video! Learned a lot! 😄
Wow, you did an amazing job teaching me how to read sheet music. Some of the best teaching I’ve seen in a while!! Thank you very much
Here in the UK it was standard practice in the 1990s to give recorders to schoolchildren for free and give them some basic music lessons once a week, which included learning how to read basic sheet music. I’m not sure if schools still do it anymore. But I’m 35 now, I play piano and I’m eternally grateful that the 6-year-old me was taught to read music from an early age. I had piano lessons when I was a teenager and it was so much easier to learn the more advanced sheet music given that I’d already been taught a basic understanding of it.
This is the best video on How to Read Music I've watched, very clear and easy to understand! Thanks a lot! ^__^

for somereason, this video is like years old but i found it and its so helpful! none of the other videos i have been using have made me understand except yours! thank you so much.
This was very helpful, as a piano player we were always taught how to memorize the spaces using FACE AND ACEG (All Cows Eat Grass) but we were never taught how to memorize the actual lines, so this was very helpful to me!
That's a great explaining for reading music notes. Thanks. I love your teaching.
this is the best and most to the point video i could find on the topic ! if u used to read music as a kid and forgot how to somewhere along the lines this is the perfect video to watch ! most likely you will in fact remember how to read music completely ( basics and scales , still gonna need to brush up on your accents ) from this one lesson (:
this has taught me better and much more calmly than any teacher i’ve had in the past. thankyou
This is sooo helpful! By far the most I’ve learnt and I’ve only watched two videos so far!! Thankyou!
I played clarinet and never had to learn bass clef, so thanks for this, I'm teaching myself piano during quarantine lol.

Thank you so much. You`ve really helped a lot , I`ve never really had a thought about music but this changed everything man🙃🙃🙃.
This has been incredibly helpful and well structured. Thank you
Thank you for putting this video together!! You make a great teacher.
your video helped me more than years and years of music classes when i was little. thanks!
Reading music in clefs and their relations to each other:
Treble: A, B, C, D, E, F, G
Alto: B, C, D, E, F, G, A
Bass: C, D, E, F, G, A, B
Luna Star Wait, Alto Clef actually exist?
What's alto clef?
joongaang viola only i think
Deanblackdown Studio its used for viola
There are at least 7-10 clefs.
The ledger lines part of the lesson helped me out soo much!! I always have trouble with them!!! Thank you!!!!!🙏🏻🙏🏻
think of the ledger lines like an extension of the staff, all the same principles apply - steps, skips, move up, down, etc - it's all the same, the lines are just shorter! :)
Extremely helpful tutorial. Helped clearing a lot of doubts that I had.
Natural teacher, so grateful for your work!
You explained it so well. Thank you so much!
thanks mate, got set to complete a quiz on sheet music for online class and was clueless but now i understand perfectly! thanks for making my life a little easier!
Simple explanations. Love it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Treble clef reminds me of a pneumonic device I learned in elementary school, "EGBDF are the names of the lines on the treble clef, F-A-C-E, the spaces are easy"
I've had a brother that was playing in a philharmonic band, trumpet, and twice a week, sometimes more he would spend more than an hour just reading out loud with guidance the note sheets... It's no joke learning music. 😊 I used to know the basics, but forgot it completely... Now I want to play piano, will be starting from zero. This will be interesting... I know I should learn how to read sheets, if I want to play it properly... 😌 Wish me luck!!
something the same happened to me too, good luck!
Thank you so much 💕💕
I’ve watched a lot of videos, but yours was the best and the most useful 🙏💗💗
I'm going too start piano lessons soon, so i wanted to learn a little bit of useful information about sheet music, this really helped. I appreciate it.
Great explanation on notes and especially ledger lines that was the trickiest part for me much appreciated.

Thanks a lot for pledging! I am glad my lessons are helping you learn.
LessonsOnTheWeb oh geez I just realized that I think commented on the wrong video! I meant to put this comment on your patreon video. but you are very welcome and yes it has helped me immensely. As I mentioned in my email to you, I'm just starting out and just got my first digital piano last weekend. I was so overwhelmed that I was wondering if I was going to be able to do it but just in the five or six videos that I've seen of yours so far I'm feeling confident and energized with the knowledge that I will be able to learn how to play piano! Thank you so much Tim!
Did u make any progress?
SoCute yes, quite a bit actually. Tims lessons on the Academy are excellent.
@Jacob Adams Hello there. Unfortunately I have not been active on my piano for the last year or so. I did purchase a lifetime membership to Tim's online academy and I learned a lot. The lessons and structure is great. But I hit a wall and lost motivation and have not been self-disciplined enough to keep going. But every time I look at my pianos I feel guilty so I do plan to start up again. I will probably supplement my online lessons with some in-person lessons as well. I'm hoping by checking in with a local teacher every week or so it will help me stay on track.
Awesome lesson. Really helped me understand. Thank You 🙏
This was super helpful, thank you!
Thank you so much. This help *A LOT*!!!!! I've been watching tutorials on youtube like magic piano. But this is amazing
