I have enjoyed listening to the show. It's very entertaining and soothes my soulhi
"Celery Sticks at Midnight" by the band. Interpretive dance by Lawrence Welk.
GREAT STUFF THAT MAKES EXCELLENT LISTENING. TODAYS SO CALLED TALENTS COME NO WHERE TO COMPETE AGAINST THESE EXCELLENT PERFORMERS.
Recorded at Television City Studios, Hollywood, California.
Nostalgic!

Cissy you were absolutely the best dance partner with Bobby. Than I liked Barbara next & last but not least Elaine
Susan, I have to agree, Cissy was Bobby's best partner. They are so fluent and in sync with one another.
I agree...Cissy was the best partner! I was really mad at Welk when he fired her. This must have been one of the last performances since she was let go in 1978. Nothing against Elaine but she didn't have the chemistry that Cissy had with Bobby.
I didn't know Welk fired Cissy?!? How did you find that out Justess? Cuz if that's true than I too have lost respect for Welk. I watched Welk when I was young when & with my parents , cuz they enjoyed the show so much. And I tape & keep shows that contain dancing & Joanne Castle. Mostly Cissy is with Bobby and think she was very gorgeous lady, especially when she had her long hair. Absolutely love 'In the mood'
Susan Crawford I have just about all the books on LW. It is a well known fact by longtime Welk fans that LW fired Cissy in October of 1978 due to her Habitual tardiness for rehearsals and shows on live dates. She was well known for her being late but she was on the show for 11 years. Surely he wouldn't have tolerated such behavior for that long. He even refers to her tardiness in his "Ah One Ah Two" book but doesn't mention her by name. He just refers to her as "one of our pretty and talented girls". So evidently it was a problem for a long time. You can google "Cissy King Fired From the Lawrence Welk Show" and you can read about it in a newspaper article.
A very good show and the video is very good quality too. Thanks for posting it. A couple tiny corrections... Song #9 should be You're Getting to be a Habit with Me and Song #17 should be The Whiffenpoof Song, in case you're interested. Also in #15 it's Sandi and not Sandy. Sandi Griffiths is still with us at age 73.
Thanks for that!

2:58 Johnny Zell.
Sometime around 1975, after Clay Hart left, something changed about the show. It was still good but there was something about the new additions that didn't sit well with me. The production numbers weren't as good as they were during the 60s and early 70s. The Otwells were good but I never quite liked Kathie Sullivan or the Aldridge Sisters. They could never compare to Sandi and Sally and definitely not with the Lennons. When Welk hired Jim Turner he was a pale comparison to Clay Hart. Clay had a voice like smooth cream! Then Welk fired Cissy. I was very upset. When Lovely Sandi Griffiths left in 1980, I watched now and then but it wasn't the same. Lawrence was getting Dementia by this point so I knew the show wouldn't last much longer.
