- Thanks for watching. This is my favourite song off the album though the Ancient Mariner is a close second. This era of Maiden was absolutely sensational, Adrian and Dave really complimented each other with their solos and the epic song structures are amazing.
As always, recorded through garageband using Amplitube Custom Shop and Roland FA-66 interface. Edited in Premiere CS6. Anyone wanting presets or questions answered feel free to email me Lambchopper678@me.com

I only use Amplitube Metal, if I were trying to get this tone from an amp I'd be using a Marshall JCM800, tube screamer and reverb
Definitely in my top five Iron Maiden solo’s by Adrian and Dave. The hold structure from Dave’s slow intro to the buildup to Adrian’s fast tempo and then back to Dave’s ending, absolutely epic and one of Metal’s greatest!
Everytime I hear the solo's I have to remind myself Bruce wrote this song, what a genius.

It's amazing how they change into 3 different keys during the song... Iron Maiden is a unique band and one of the best musicians ever!! And you play them amazing too!!

What I really adore about this cover is the bum note at 1:07 and I mean that sincerely. I think its important for aspiring guitarists to see that even the best make occassional mistakes (and that it's OK)
I think it can actually be demoralising when you see youtubers appear to play perfectly all the time because they selected the 1 take out of 75 attempts where they didn't make a mistake. It makes you feel like they're on a completely different level that you probably won't ever reach. But when they let you see their mistakes and how they own them, it makes them much more relatable and somehow makes their level of playing seem attainable.
Those 2 solos are absolute magic with that bass line pounding in the back....awesome job

Saw them in April at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit With Steve Harris' son's Band The Raven's Age. Flew my son in from Walla Walla Washington and I drove from Baltimore MD meeting him in Detroit. Got some nice pics of Ed Force One

I use your cover to play along with as I'm learning. I can only get to about 3:47 in the solo and then I just can't play it clean fast enough; though I really only just started that part of the solo, but it's still going to most likely be too difficult for me. I'm not a lead player and I'm just learning by myself and trying to "ear" how to play as much as possible. Your video is helpful, thanks...Jen

That's a damn good point. I started playing not to long ago after wanting to play since i was a kid and its fun but definitely always has the challenges.
A year later and I am seeing what you meant by its practice and not talent. I barely got an electric guitar in early may this year and got my first guitar exactly a year before. Ever since getting the electric guitar I have almost played everyday. As of right now I play at least 4 hours a day. Its helping out and can play some parts in a lot of metallica/iron maiden/slayer,etc. I still have a long ways to go before i can play like you though lmao. But I am practicing my ass off everyday. Keep rockin' mate.

Awesome work! I have a question about Adrian's modern style for example his lead on Wicker Man what do you call that technique he has of playing notes that "cascade" that's the best way I can describe it! That technique mystifies me and way beyond my abilities at this time! Cheers and Up The Irons!
Mate you're pretty damn good. Dare say I'm gonna learn to play myself. I have the time just not the patience haha. Any chance of some matter of life and death covers? Maiden's later stuff has been fairly instrumental (excuse the pun) in inspiring up and coming metal bands. Same with saxon/judas priest/metallica etc etc.
I never got into that album, or any of the other recent efforts. I'll put it back on the iphone and have a better listen. Thanks mate, take care

Looking up vids on Powerslave. \m/ killer job! Subscribed! I like what you've done with your SDX. Do you have a hardshell case for it?? If so, what brand/style?
I do have a hard shell case for it, a no name chinese rectangle that came with the guitar as a freebie
The Adrian Smith SDX is a top notch guitar. Bought mine online. Came with a gig bag. It's worthy of more than just a gig bag. Not sure why Jackson haven't designed a hardshell case for it. I've tried 2 different Jackson cases and a Fender case to no avail.
I'd get one of those fender strat hardshell cases, surely there are some on ebay.
The Strat case I tried wasn't cut out enough to accommodate the Floyd when closing the case. Thinking about trying out an Ibanez case. I'll let you know. Until then, I have some Powerslave to learn.
