- Chile hired a French military training mission in 1858, and the Chilean legation in Berlin was instructed to find a training mission during the War of the Pacific in 1881. But large-scale emulation of the Prussian Army began in 1886 with the appointment of Captain Emil Körner, a graduate of the renowned Kriegsakademie in Berlin. Also appointed were 36 Prussian officers to train officer cadets in the Chilean Military Academy. The training occurred in three phases; the first took place from 1885 to 1891 during the presidency of Domingo Santa María, the second was the post-civil-war phase, and the third was the 1906 reorganisation. I do not own rights to the song used in the video. no copyright intended...

Our entire Bundeswehr consists of Prussian tradition, even our uniform, including the barrett (Lützower Korps) east Prussian tradition. German influence in the Chilean Army dates back to the late 19th century. In 1899 he adopted the Prussian helmet and in 1903 the uniform based on the German model.
In 1881 the Prussian military tradition was formally adopted after the country of Chile moved away from what had been which was a Napoleonic French style military beforehand

As a German of East Prussian heritage on my fatherly side, I think I have to visit Chile at one point in my life. It seems to be an interesting country from what I have read and if I make the timing right, I will be able to watch a piece of German military tradition that has been lost for the most part in my country.

Für die Bundeswehr würden das leider viele nicht sehen wollen.
Wir bräuchten eine neue Streitkraft, ich würde sie Reichsmacht nennen, die ganz klar auf Wehrmacht und Waffen SS aufbaut. (Alles militärische, aber nicht die Kriegsverbrechen)
Eine Solche Reichsmacht könnte dann von Feuerkraft und Logistik die mächtigste Armee der Welt sein, dann wären wir unter anderem das Nato der Zugpferd.
Außerdem könnte eine solche Armee Parade technisch und Uniformtechnisch sowie auch was die Einstellung der Soldaten angeht absolut glänzen.

Reichswehr style, not Wermacht; the Chilean Army adopted the Prussian doctrine and then the German doctrine long time before Hitler came to power. but I understand that the German army is best known for the Wehrmacht (nazi period).

@@tl8231 I mean that the concept and origin of the "stahlhelm" comes from the first world war (Reichswehr), however the war clothing evolves according to the needs that are universal and not according to a fashionable style. Today stahlhelm are only worn for parades honoring the Prussian-German doctrine on which the Chilean army was built, but kevlar helmets are worn in combat. But technically you are right :)

A pesar que situaciones como ésta han sucedido y sucederán muchas veces, lamentablemente CHILE fué el único país en el mundo que expulsó un gobierno rojo y es usado como chivo expiatorio en temas de Derechos Humanos, para así el mundo "lavar sus manos" de las atrocidades mayores y menores que en muchos países se cometieron-cometen y se cometerán. A mí parecer creo que éste es el único país en el mundo que sigue tan "dividido" políticamente después de casi medio siglo de ocurrido el Golpe Militar. De todas formas el "mundo" sólo se preocupa de los Derechos Humanos en los países donde hay un gran interés económico o de materias primas estratégicas. En las próximas elecciones Presidenciales Chile está en la Gran Encrucijada, pues se está a un corto paso de caer nuevamente en el abismo, con la llegada de los rojos al poder elegidos por un pueblo cívica e históricamente ignorante con gran resentimiento social exacerbado por los mismos rojos y la desesperación de los mismos ciudadanos de sacarse el "yugo" opresor de un empresariado explotador coludido con políticos corruptos. It's actually funny how this fine display of military tradition , causes so much controversy and political bickering in the comments. Too many people stuck on the symbolism it carries with it from WW2 while a lot of what is displayed here is older than that. It does'nt matter how many of you people are offended by this, but i'm sure the Chileans won't give a damn about those feelings. What they see in this is a very proud military tradition and i'm sure they will continue this for many years to come. I personally always enjoy military parades like this and if any of you have a problem with that i don't care .

The online sources all agree. The global firepower ranking has Australia at around 19th. It has South Africa at 29. And Chile doesn't show up til the 47th spot. Chile wasn't the best in South America either... that went to Brazil.
