Yes, the Cromptons were on a charter from London via the North West. I was on the tour, we went back a more direct route.......And Valant HST's still, happy days....
Where did the tour come from? London, I expect? That's always the thing with rail tours, particularly in winter; by the time you get there it's getting dark, and you have about half an hour before you have to go back. In that time though, a nice little bit of action including what must have been one of the first GNER liveried power cars.
Yes, we started at Kings Cross and got to York via Doncaster, Huddersfield, Man Vic, Bolton, Hebden Bridge & Wakefield. The return was straight up the East Coast to the Cross. I seem to recall grabbing some hot food while at York which reduced the time i had to film. I enjoyed railtours for the thrash factor plus scoring new engines for haulage & mileage......
