    I'm not into Military stuff. I build cars. I watch your vids because I like the gentle and layed back approach to it all.
    "Not going to make it so wheel's turn, not bothered about it"
    Absolutely brilliant approach. Keep it up Gary. Oh and BTW that part towards end of vid is a steering box.

    One of the great things I enjoy about your channel is that you are very honest about your modelling and when things don't go as planned. You do continue on and just deal with it. Keep up the good work.

      I don't think there's any point not being honest when I mess up, Barry. Apart from anything else, it means I might get a work-round that gets me out of trouble and can help others if they find themselves going down the same rabbit hole!

    The detail in this really comes into it's own, even down to things like what I assume are anti roll bars.
    I think the thing you put on the right side of the chassis is the steering pump. But I could be wrong.
    It's looking amazing so far.

    Lovely build, Gary -- the patience and precision of a surgeon. And I quite agree that shock absorbers are best called dampers, mufflers and silencers are a draw, but the engine hood has nothing to do with a bonnet. 😀
    The exhaust system is in a constant state of self-destruction from the first moment the engine starts up and produces heat and water as byproducts. Yours is fresh but I like to paint the piping with dark rust then tamp it with baking soda and repaint it when it's dry. It will take a light wash at joints, and I drybrush it with lighter rust to give it a slight texture effect.
    Thanks for the tip on holding tiny parts and etched parts with a China marker/grease pencil. I couldn't find one as technology has surpassed us, but my wife found them as markers for sewing. It's easy to trim down to a fine point, too.
    Looking forward to more, and I hope at the end if you'll have preference. the simpler Airfix build or the more time-consuming detail of the Gecko build.
    Cheers@

    I'm so glad you called the suspension components dampers, my inner pedant always screams when they are referred to as shock absorbers.
    Not that it matters but the component you called an alternator looks more like a dynamo to me and I don't think any vehicles had alternators at that time. The cover at the front of the engine is for the camshaft drive.
    I've got this kit on order, so it's good to know what to expect when I start my build.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks for all the info on the engine parts - it is a lot of years since I took a Ford 1100 apart in my old Escort! Yes indeed it probably is a dynamo, thinking about it. I remember the thing about dampers from years ago - they don't absorb shock (that's the job of the springs), but they damp the spring oscillation, if I recall correctly that is!!! Cheers John!

    • @johnscarsandstuff
      @johnscarsandstuff 2 роки тому +4

      @@garys_stuff you are absolutely spot-on about the function of springs and dampers.
      Also, the unidentified bit on the front of the chassis, I think that's the steering box (or part of it).

    • @crazylocha2515
      @crazylocha2515 2 роки тому +2

      @@johnscarsandstuff here in the States, are the Dynamo also called generators?

    • @johnscarsandstuff
      @johnscarsandstuff 2 роки тому +3

      @@crazylocha2515 yes they are, I believe. The difference is that a dynamo generates direct current in proportion to its rotational speed. Alternators produce alternating current and can produce more current at low speeds.

    • @crazylocha2515
      @crazylocha2515 2 роки тому +2

      @@johnscarsandstuff ok, thought so. Have a Ford 3000 ('74) with a Genny, and oddly, the '53 Farmall has both, except the Genny isn't hooked up, late conversion to an alternator. I don't relish having to mess with the points and getting the Genny's "excited" to start producing DC.
      Thanks for translating the Dynamo=Genny 😜

    Would turning your cutting mat over help with focus? So many modelling channels seem to have cameras which just love to lock on to that grid.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  2 роки тому +1

      Wouldn't help me because both sides have grids! But it is infuriating. I used to use a DSLR but the autofocus on that was wayward to say the least. The phone is better but you still have to coax it now and again, and when you're looking at a part trying to get it lined up, you aren't looking at the screen all the time! There is another alternative I'll try at some point, but fort now I have to ask forgiveness for the occasional focus lapse and say "blame Mr Apple..."
