We actually drive our sheep right through the middle of our little town 4 times a year to get to our other farm. Up to 7 Merama running through town but we have never had a dog fight fortunately but our dogs seem to know they aren't on their territory. They've killed their fare share of cats though and riled up a few neighbors by running through their yards but most folks love to watch 600 sheep and their lambs run past their windows, it's been that way since my great grandfather, so part of the town's tradition.
@@wiki6494it’s like American slang for ‘prefer’ so if the sheep had a choice of what they would like to eat, then Greg lists all those plant species he mentioned.
Greg, Spring at your place is beautiful! This season is so full of HOPEFUL PROMISE and your farm illustrates that splendidly! Thank you for sharing the view and the method of introducing the Flerd to each other.
You are an inspiration and a prophet of your moral ideals that have become reality. A true Steward of your land, sir. I have the utmost respect for you.
Thanks for another great video! That green grass looks great! Not any green here in Maine yet but I'm still moving and rolling out hay. My cattle and sheep are together all the time works great!!
Learn something new just about every time Thank you. Moving my cows twice a day now and goats every 2 to 3. Watching the grass also to see if they need faster.
Start back again around 2:20 -- who taught those bulls to move in such a tight military formation? Who taught the locust to move as one though they have no general? God did. Amazing, and beautiful.
9:54 -- is that the 1st screenshot of the "terrific two"? You've had great luck with some wonderful interns, but these are the 2 that became so famous during that *uh-hem* 2020 stuff. I'm finally about to catch up, and I think this is the 1st with Ben and Isaac together.
Hi Greg I’m in Australia I’ve adopted a lot of your techniques and really enjoy watching your approach to farming 15:40 lice problem on the back end of the bull would you treat the herd or just the one . I’m currently still using pour-on drench on my herd when needed . Thank you for sharing your videos I’m learning so much and enjoy every video. Have a good day mate and stay safe .
That is sure very beautiful land you have very good looking stock Greg both sheep and cattle.was wondering about what area of Missouri your in i live about 30/40 minutes south of kansas city love your videos thank you so much for all your videos Greg.
Hi! I'm from Brazil and i work with beef catle here! I would like to know more about your methods! Something about the climate, about the grasses, the pasture manegement, suplementation!congrat for the Channel!
Greg, question. Can you elaborate on the benefits between the parasite resistance of running sheep and cattle together? We have been keeping ours separate due to we were told that the sheep would pickup parasites from cattle.
Sheep and cattle complement each other perfectly. Cattle parasites can be ingested by sheep and the parasite cannot complete its life cycle. Same thing happens when cows ingest sheep parasites. The two species act as vacuum cleaners for each others parasites. It’s a win-win.
Will the guardian dogs mess with your pet dogs if you bring them around? Do you have to make sure to keep them away from one one another or introduce them to your pets so they don't see them as a threat to the flock? Thank you for spending time to show us this business and way of life. I'm studying up to get into this in a few years.
Love watching your videos Greg and have really learned alot! Do you have any tips on setting up your ATV as an efficient fencing rig? Is that something you would make a video about? Thanks again!
Hey Greg, I'm a big fan from Tasmania (Australia) and I love this concept. I currently have a small flock of 15 sheep (14 ewes + 1 ram) and I'm planning to increase to around 50 ewes and 2 rams when I can organize some leased grazing. I would like to separate out my rams after tupping time and the last season's lambs. If I had a small number of cows I could run these together with the rams and older lambs and it would be from this 'flerd' that I would either sell from or select my replacement ewes from. So I would run a flerd with the flock following along a reasonable distance behind as per the season and the recovery. Any thoughts or problems you could see with this would be much appreciated.
If the sheep and cattle were combined into a flerd, would you use your sheep mineral feeder? I wonder if the cattle might consume less (or no) minerals due to the sheep hair and odor left in the mineral feeder by the sheep? (If the cattle mineral feeder were used, lambs might be killed inadvertently.) Thank you for your help.
I don't know anything about guard dogs. What is that one dragging? Appeared to be about licence plate size. Didn't appear to bother him at all or impede his movement.
Watch everyday from Winnipeg. Question: i have an spruce tree plantation and lots of weeds. Do you think sheep would eat weeds and not damage 3-10 foot trees. I would move sheep back to pasture with cattle after they knock down the weeds. Also, do you run 12" high single wire for the flurd or need to use two? Thanks
Thanks for explaining the reason you don't keep them as a flerd all the time. On a smaller homestead scale, would you suggest a mixed flerd? I'm looking at Katahdin sheep and maybe Dexter cattle - something smallish.
Please help me, how do you fight a neighbor that is getting ready to convert grassland into Monsanto Roundup ready corn that will affect your organic non-chemical property? Please somebody out there help.
White sheeps, white dogs & dark green grass looks absolutely beautiful.

Nice looking grass! Up here in north central North Dakota and we just got hammered with snow and lots of wind to go with it!
Yes in Winnipeg too. Just dont send us too much water.

That lone sheep ran over to give a peace offering, I think. Abruptly decided against that plan after a better look at the situation haha

thanks greg green grass looks good. im 25 days from good grass in pa ny border
what is thet flapping thing around the white dogs neck, and whats its purpose?

Why do some of the dogs have something hanging from them ? To stop breeding ?
What is the thing hanging on the dog neck?
It is a life saver!
Im pretty sure is something good you do the best for your animals and the land but how works?
Had an ice storm thursday night. Green grass still a little ways out. 50s next week😀

i actually want to do a homestead, i had been wondering if a flerd was a good idea or not.
I don't know anything about guard dogs. What is that one dragging? Appeared to be about licence plate size. Didn't appear to bother him at all or impede his movement.
A nice way to wake up and sip a coffee ☕️
Greg sounds like you've got mild flu.
Stay safe.
Make sure your sense of taste and smell are working fine.
Greg, do you ever leash two guard dogs together to try and cure the roaming young dogs?
Do you usually keeps the bulls separate from the rest of the herd?
What do you do with the rams? Put then with cows?
They have their own pasture 2 miles from our ewes.
So you run 1 herd of cows, 1 flock of rams, and 1 flerd of bulls and ewes? Is there a reason you do not run the rams with the cows?
Nice GREEN grass Greg
Can cows/bulls fill the role of the guardian dogs to some level?
Yes
Any techniques to bond the sheep to cattle?
Great video! Do you change anything with your mineral when you have sheep and cattle together?
Nope.
How do you have so many bulls together without fighting?
They have been together since birth. They worked out who is boss in their childhood!!!

I think they will eat your trees
They will eat every pine needle they can reach. If you protect the trees it would be ok.
Greg, what is your mineral regimen. What do you use and how often do you add?
We use a cafeteria style 16 hole mineral feeder. We use Free Choice Enterprises for our mineral.
at what age do you sell youre lambs Greg . ???
Great video, Greg. How big was that paddock?
2 acres
At what age to you butcher your lambs?
Hi Greg. Did you make the drag for your dog or did you buy it somewhere?
whats the one dog dragging around?
8:30 can anyone hear what he says? "the sheep if they had the [insert word here] they would love to .. "
how old do let bulls get before selling them
15 to 24 months old
Why is the one dog dragging a shringle from his collar?
Keeps them from wandering
Are those Red Angus Cattle?
South Poll breed
Had you recently separated the bulls out froom the cws and heifers?
March 1st bulls were removed from cow herd.
Got any morel mushrooms yet in mid- Missouri?
2 more weeks. We are cutting lots of shitake mushrooms from our logs though.
Goodness, the bulls dangle parts too low to risk getting a shock!
Greg, do you run a ram with your ewes at all times?
Absolutely not, only from December to July. No winter lambing that way.
Greg Judy Regenerative Rancher thanks! Do you have them all in another pen together? Any issues with that?
Grass - hurray - spring
What is hanging around some of the dogs necks?
Thanks for explaining the reason you don't keep them as a flerd all the time. On a smaller homestead scale, would you suggest a mixed flerd? I'm looking at Katahdin sheep and maybe Dexter cattle - something smallish.
Mixed flerd is the best you can do.
That grass looks so good I wanna be a bull so I can graze it
Roll that fence boys!
Bravo
Red Angus ?
I think Greg runs southpole.
It looks like the boggy days are over!
Don't jinx him!
Please help me, how do you fight a neighbor that is getting ready to convert grassland into Monsanto Roundup ready corn that will affect your organic non-chemical property? Please somebody out there help.
So you have the bulls with the sheep in April? I thought you separate the bulls from the cows from July to beginning of December.
Bulls are out of cow herd from March till July 1st.
Greg Judy Regenerative Rancher ah, so it’s the rams that are separated from July to December. I mixed that up.
🐊🇺🇸🦅👍
Who dosen't love a flerd!
