Important difference is the zero fret at the headstock end of the fretboard.

I like the D hole sound much more - better balanced and more resonant. However - until I win the lottery, I’ll just keep playing my vintage dreadnoughts with ball-end classicals - I can get a nice gypsy-like sound out of them….

Great demo and explanation. I have built 70 guitars so far, but not a gypsy jazz box. I have looked at the plans for sale and thought about it for awhile now. I will watch this a few more times and hopefully get inspired because I’m not a jazz guy.

I liked the sound of the last guitar.I have worked on gypsy jazz for the last 3 years, using a morgan om.I am starting to realize how vastly different the sound of these instruments actually is.

The acoustics around you are sympathetically resonating. You can hear a few beautiful overtones during your lead playing.
Yeah I think that’ll be my reasoning to myself for 6 extra acoustics actually.. hmmmm 🧐

They even make Nylon string versions which are great for beginners cause you don't have to push down as hard on the strings, they also harken back to the Original Maccaferri Guitars which had Nylon strings

Perhaps it's just the audio quality, but to me they all sounded rather tinny with little warmth and weak projection. I couldn't really distinguish any 'character' difference between these examples as you can between say a Martin D45, K. Yairi Masterwork, or PRS Angelus acoustic guitars...but my questions about the soundholes were answered, thanks!!

It's not the audio quality. It's just the way you play that kind of guitars. This demo is not good at all. You might consider guitarist like Angelo debarre, birelli lagrene and of course dgango reinhart to understand what is the real sound and its limitation. That kind of manouche guitar are good for jazz manouche.

To my ear the D hole sounds slightly louder. The petite sounds slightly brighter.
But the difference is small, hardly noticeable.

I think it is important to note that you prefer 0 hole, concluded from looking at your wall XD

Could I use this to play something not so jazzy but on the country side of things maybe lol only asking cuz I was just given a guitar like the d hole one you were playing.

Of course you can! You can play any instrument for any type of music, in my opinion. The associations can make an instrument seem out of place. For example, you don't expect a saxophone in a metal song. But if it sounds good, then I think it can work. If it doesn't sound right, then just buy a flat top guitar.
If you don't end up liking the guitar, I still suggest keeping it because D-hole guitars are quite rare.

Hi Donald sorry but no. I can order one in though…it would take 3-6months. Are you based in Australia?

Those are even rarer to witness than the models shown in the video. First time I've seen one was the first time I've seen the talented gypsy guitar player Nando Reinhardt.

you were in fact correct the first time, sirra, it was indeed The Hot Dog de France, which was before anyone had heard of the ''blow dog'' which protein enhanced meal no one of my acquaintance has ever possessed enough cash to enjoy, so there.
