@@TheEnd-eg6wq No, Rich Strike wasn't in dead last except perhaps right out of the gate as he moved across the rear of the field towards the rail to get into position. He'd overtaken 2 horses halfway thru the opening stretch, and 3 by the first turn. It was an incredible run that doesn't require made-up hyperbole.

I believe it can. The trainer said it needs rest. Preakness is too early for it. Skip the Preakness. Run the Belmont. It can proobe it there hiw goos it is , and many more. California Chrome was a well example of such. Rest kept it running for a long time. It became the number one horse in money earner , until Arrogate took its place.

Almost as if he’s saying, “Dude, you look tired.” Watching the overheard view, it was one of the best rides you will see. Once the jockey split those two horses and moved to the rail, Rich Strike kicked into full gear. His closing speed was incredible.

Yes, this horse is one-in-a-hundred million. Three times I saw him turn his head sideways to observe his surroundings. The horse and jockey were a perfect team, noticing the exact cracks in the crowd they had to maneuver through. Rich Strike has clever intuition, as well as every other possible quality a horse could have.
The owner, trainer, jockey and team knew full well that Rich Strike was a great finisher. Maybe the world's best finisher.
Once he moved to the middle of the pack, the team must have known that he had a chance to win.

The jockey Sonny Leon did some amazing driving getting through the traffic in the last turn. When the pack swung outside coming out of the final turn, it just sort of sucked them forward and gave them running room. I can almost see the disbelief in both horse and rider, like "holy s**t it's open running!" Beautiful to see Rich Strike cut around the #6 horse and still hold stride. But, to run down the leaders and win going away after that smoking pace shows speed apparently nobody knew this horse had. I grew up going to the Downs and hanging around on the back side. I've never seen a horse stare down other horses during a race. Let's be honest, horses have limited intelligence. Most stare straight ahead and will run until they die if prompted. Several times Rich Strike turns his head , telling Sonny Leon where he wants to go. He's clearly staring at Epicenter, he wanted to catch him and win the race. Idk, great ride, a lot of luck for the horses in front of him to run wide at the top of the stretch leaving the rail wide.. But if you watch, he sees it immediately and straighten up his mount on that line.. One horse closed the rail down about halfway down the stretch, but he got around him easily..
