There is a lot to be said for ‘going with the flow’ and seeing where the opportunities take you. More than happy to come along virtually for the ride. x
We lived like this for a decade, we kept a small holding in the mountains. The romance of open fires is slowly killed by the relentless cycle of wood buying, chopping and stacking. We now live on our boat and don't miss the snow one bit. We've talked about it at length and it's lovely when someone else is doing all of the work, clearing the paths, setting the fires and cleaning up the inevitable mess. By all means give it a try but we decided eventually that it wasn't for us. Oh and you really miss the sun in winter.
When I lived in Australia I could visit snow, and then return to relative warmth. I liked that once or twice a year. I also like seeing snow in this context; on a screen with some nicely filmed shots. I wouldn't want to live in it for any length of time though. IMO the darkness of a northern winter would make the experience much worse.
Do it! Sail over here! I live near Gothenburg and my boat is in a harbour here, and we sail all year round. Bring your boat over and I'll help you find a mooring. £80 a month for a nice marina mooring and beautiful places to sail. Come over!
Watching the channel from time to time, imagine the surprise when I saw you guys up on hundberget. I grew up just across the river 😃 You should visit during summer, and explore the Gulf of Bothnia . Fair winds
I figured that you'd come to this conclusion. I live where it snows as well. (6,000 feet elevation at my house). AND the cost of snow removal (buy a tractor and keep it up... you'd see how expensive that is)... makes it NOT practical. Even worse... show up AFTER there is 2 feet of snow piled up. (or even deeper). You'd almost never catch up for that season.
Careful, you might just find the opening to the centre of the earth up there in arctic circle, and end up meeting a new civilization, then never come back agin

It’s boat life for us too - sailing in the snow is a struggle we can handle, as for a house in it… nuts. These two are another level!
