My vote is for a Michael Stanley Band career retrospective! They had a bigger reach than the Artful Dodger who are a mighty fine band as well. My Town was one of first videos ever aired by MTV.
MSB has some good stuff, I like Ladies' Choice, You Can't Fight Fashion. Msb, Stage Pass & Cabin Fever. Also their Greatest Hints. Heartland, North Coast & Inside Moves are just OK...He's also got some 'solo' albums under his own name like Coming Up For Air, Eighteen Down, Friends & Legends plus the s/t 1972 album
Cool show, you groovy gurus of tunes. As a former New York record store employee/manager/co-owner, l know the band name somehow… but those album covers really don’t ring a bell. So weird. Maybe they were just a regional band, Australia excluded of course. Grant, did you ask Peter Kerr or bicyclelegs if they ever heard of Artful Dodger? Now I’m going to have to look into this group. All four of their elpees are on - at least - Spotify. Dunno 🤷🏻 about any other streamers. And I’m guessing that they’re probably up on UA-cam as well. Cheers! ~ Davey Cretin, from Cretin Classics.
Living here in cleveland my whole life, they were pretty popular here. Not crazy huge, but they would play the agora and sell it out. Or open for big acts like Kiss. A cool band with some good music
Good band...Two really good albums, and two pretty good ones between 1975-80. Solid power pop, many make comparisons to The Raspberries. Ranking: 1. S/T debut & Honor Among Thieves - both excellent & equally good (IMO) 2. Babes On Broadway & Rave On AD developed out of a mid 70's outfit called Brat, out of Virginia. Influences were The Stones/The Beatles/The Faces. I think you can get these albums as two-fer rereleases, there's also the comp The Complete Columbia Recordings. Aerosmith's producer Jack Douglas was also involved in album production. Gary Herrewig has an EP from 1985 called 4 Gone Conclusions (probably pretty tough to find). Peter Bonta did a bunch of mostly country-flavored session work while also producing. Related bands: The Nighthawks ('roots' blues/r&b), Roselyn Mountain Boys (a little too country for me), a band called The Sleepers (only heard one track that wasn't bad), and The Band of Steves with their album A Little Romance from 2017 (on Bandcamp & I think it's on Spotify): “on a good night the stories and songs swing on top of a funky kind of country blues pop stomp”. There it is!
Grant sorry I missed the live chat I'm so bummed but thanks to you and DC for bringing Artful Dodger to all the Rockers in the Warehaus 👍
Who's talking artful dodger 🤔? Grants rock warhaus of course 😉. 🤟
Rave On is the best. Top 3 power pop album of all time. Brilliant front to back. Shame more people don't know it.
This band is very good.I also have that boxset of theirs.Never can get enough of it
Excellent show guys! Thx for doing it.
Mark Farner signed my new version of "Closer to Home". Received it today!

I'd say selling out the Agora is a pretty big deal, but it's too bad they never saw mainstream success
